Just a thought, Regarding the scratches. Can you get a grey coloured Sharpie to touch them up? Even if it is the wrong shade of grey, it might make them less noticable.
PS: I got a pack of coloured Sharpies off of eBay, they are quite cheap, so no real loss if it does not work.
