Sifting through the comments about the Microsoft ad, wondering when Arlo will bring it up, then hearing Arlo say “Resistance is futile” just about jump started my morning 😆
You know... here's how I know that, at least for me, nostalgia plays such a huge role in gaming. Origami King was my first Paper Mario game, and I loved it. It wasn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it. The story, the graphics, and the music were all great. The battle system, while a little tedious, was unlike really any other game I've ever played. And when looking at these trailers for TTYD, I know I'm gonna like it, but at the same time... I miss Origami King. I played a lot of it during the early days of the pandemic. It's a great game, and I really urge the naysayers to give it another go around, maybe after playing TTYD Remake and you have that itch scratched. I'm sure this won't happen, but I'd love to see another Origami King style effort, just clean it up a little bit.
This is definitely the issue with something like Paper Mario. Origami King really put a bitter taste in my mouth and I had not played TTYD by then, and when I got to TTYD it really surprised me how much I loved it. There is no pleasing all the fans with a series that is divided into very, very different games that barely resemble eachother. I really want a brand new entry to the first two Paper Marios, but I can see someone who enjoys the newer games being upset that its turning back the clock.
@yoshiswagdust and I sincerely hope that you/we get an entry akin to Paper Mario 1 and 2. If the story and presentation has high levels of charm, then I'll enjoy it. And since I haven't played TTYD, I can't really speak to the level of engagement in the combat system, but if it's high, then we should be golden. My big thing is that I like RPGs a lot, it's been one of my favorite genres for many years, but because I've played so many RPGs, I've started growing a little weary of traditional/classic combat systems. Hopefully TTYD and any future Paper Mario entries will keep me engrossed.
I never played the originals. Sticker Star is what made me interested in Paper Mario. I don't have anything against the first 2 games, but it would weird to me if they did change it back to the older versions.
