Are there any other games that left you sleepless? Let us know!
I will say among the sleep did for a couple nights. The Evil Within 2 has a couple scary monsters when you first encounter them. 8O
That swan ride
Fatal frame and Fatal frame 2
The third stage of Dick Wars. Just the sound of Dr of CoronaCock was enough to give you nightmares .
House of Velez
The fake-out got me, even though i was expecting it, good editing boys
The level from Halo where you first encounter the Flood always gave me the willies. The encounter with the crazed marine at the entrance to the facility, which seemed to contain nothing but dead covenant. Spooky.
That is without a doubt my favorite level in all of Halo!
I stopped playing Halo for a while because of that level. Made my skin crawl for months
Years later that scene still slaps. I was playing on co-op mode with my sister. The first of the Flood shows up. Pop, pop, pop we go with our SMGs. These dudes ain't shit. A glorified zit on spindly limbs. Then more show up. And more and more and more. Then it dawns on us: we have to get out and NOW before we're overrun. Omg, they're everywhere. Everywhere! I recall that very real sense of panic while clearing that level.
Idk about you lot... but I think we need a triple jump Amnesia stream.
Okay, you got me. You got me good. Particularly because I had just watched a Hollow Knigh/Metroidvania video, so it fit in really well. Well done.
i agree. that was super clever
oh hey it's rythian. whatup, yog?
Watching this at 2am and google shouts: "I don't understand; how do I get bejesus stains out of my comfort blanket?". Thank you tiny peeps, my housemates will look at me even weirder from now on :/
Why would Google shout?
First encounter with the Reaper Leviathan behind the Aurora crash site beats some of these entries. Subnautica can be uniquely uncomfortable at times
Bit late to the party, but there is one moment that always got me, it's hearing the words "Beware, I live" while playing Sinistar, followed by your inevitable death at the hands of the titular space monstrosity.
Quarter-Life 4 killed me... well done
This list is missing the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows! That level is the spookiest I have ever encountered in a video game.
Thank you for posting on halloween. 😊
3:52 "John Freeman looked at road signs and saw "Ravenholm" with someons writing under it saying "u shudnt come here" so John Freeman almost turned around but heard screaming like Gordon so he went faster again."
Oh yeah and Clive Barker's Undying. That belongs in the Amnesia category of "all of it."
that mindfuck at 11.40. I was like WTF . well played...well played...
One that always sticks out to me is Monster-Ock from Spider-Man (2000), and the subsequent chase. Where you have to stay ahead of that monstrosity in a haphazard maze, while being hounded by the haunting vocals of Dee Bradley Baker.
I was to scared to watch this on october 31st, so I wait until today
Dude you got me! I was like, "its only halfway through, how is it over?" haha
Nice spooky list, boyos. If you were to ever do another list with fan suggestions, I'd like to toss my hat into the ring and suggest the cutscene from Dead Rising that plays when you stay on the start menu for a while (Crash Bandicoot style). It's probably a scenario that's been done plenty of times, but speaking as someone who doesn't divulge into horror very often, it was done damn well and put me on the edge of my seat.
Fooking love Ravenholm and the Ravenholm mod for L4D2
Thank U Tiny Peeps! U brought the Spookems for Halloween for sure!! Luv the video, but now I'm hidin underneath my covers!
Looking at it today, it seems ridiculous, but the first Alone in the Dark was really good. To me it felt like the 7th Guest or the 11th Hour had come to life with it's hybrid 2D/3D graphics. There was nothing like it at the time.
Another time I really really felt alone was the first time you go to the X-11 lab in Stalker. I truly felt alone with the walls closing in on me. Great stuff.
Running from the bear in condemned 2 is still my scariest moment in gaming.
This video deserves more likes for it proper recognition of the masterwork that is alien isolation
OH GOD NOT SKI FREE! I just found out the other day you can actually press F to go faster to get away from the yeti. So F for all the times it got me 😔
Ur scary little girl impression was so spot on it was too scary 😢
Thanks for the spooky, kooky video from a cupboard. Outside Xbox/Xtra use this music during their livestreams (the first one). XD
Also thanks for using different music, Peter.
I love these channels that have so much personality when they do countdowns. WhatCulture, OutsideXBox/Extra, and you guys are my faves!
lol the prank got me
I think Alien Trilogy on the PS1 needs a remake, that would epic... As for Spookyness... Resident Evil 2 has way too many scenes to choose from.
I was convinced that I could somehow escape the skifree yeti...hang hard right or left, go straight, hit all the jumps, try and clip him into trees, probably others, it's been a while. Never managed.
There's a side quest in STALKER call of pripyat where you're going through one of the abandoned labs. It's incredibly dark (even night vision doesn't help, depending on what helmet you're wearing). It's pretty standard STALKER stuff until you get to the room that holds the objective. All sounds STOP. There's nothing in the room either. This is already unnerving, but once you pick up the document, a baby starts crying.
Glad I discovered this channel
Always thought Dark Souls/Bloodborne should be classified as survival horror as they all focus on animation priority, powerful enemies, and INCREDIBLY scarce/limited healing items.
Just because you can walk around as an enormous, sapient, stone refrigerator, don't think that'll save you.
Very spoopy indeed
Huge fan of eternal darkness. That game screws with you so much. He didn't mention when the screen turns blank and says, "VIDEO", like you accidentally changed the input on your TV. Awesome
LOL you got me with the fake end of video sceen, I already wantd to click a new video LOL
Lol ...11:41... I was like how the hell did 23:30 minutes go by that fast. You must be the infamous Troll King🤔
Ravenholm was my favorites part of hl2.
Bloodborne is an absolute masterpiece and i love seeing it on these lists.
"we dont go to yharham anymore" cracked me up hah
gotta say though i feel like encountering the Brain of Mensis was the creepiest part of the game
The first time you enter the Nursery room in 7th Guest. Listen to the music and the voice track and really start to understand what's going on in the game. The ending was pretty creepy, too, and I'll never forget the horrible maze level. Also, in Phantasmagoria..when you are running the final sequence (FMV style with janky controls) and if you get caught, some pretty horrible things happen to you. Last, but not least, Martha's Dead...pretty much the entire game, but certain parts are really disturbing (I won't spoil it here).
Proud to say I beat RE7 in VR. It’s a real treat if you’re depraved like me
The only way it should be played 👌🏻 the Moulded are absolutely awful in VR 🙈
Really could have done without the sweetly-singing ghost lady in The Evil Within 2. I shuddered every time she made her unwelcome entrances to suck out our hero's soul through his skull. Eep!
Doom 64's soundtrack as a whole. I swear it left me a little dead inside.
Or the muffled screams of children in the nursery in ZombiU.
No System Shock 2? That's an exceedingly glaring omission, although you didn't include Bioshock instead so I can't slam you too hard for it. I am glad you put FO1's The Master in the list.
Pathologic and The Void are the most disturbing games I've ever played, and I've played a lot of damn games. Something about those Russians, man. On that note, X-18 from STALKER: Shadows of Chernobyl is genuine nightmare fuel.
Perfect list bar one entry... Condemed..the creepy stalking manaquins that follow you, in weeping angel fashion.. Actually most of cnodemed was freaking scary.
I was already scared of mannequins, condemned really solidified that fear. Also the bear in the second one was pure nightmare fuel
Onimisha flying doll girl thingy that comes out of vases! That use to terrify me
Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money. The Ghost people. Nope. Nope. Noooooope.
You guys trigger my phone and my Nest more than any other channel by a long margine!
I literally have a save file just to play Ravenholm over and over.
hahaha i seriously thought the video had ended haha -.-
21:17 we'll take the lot!
Encountering Librarians in Metro 2033. All the shooty-shooty against other mutants in the game was pretty standard, but an enemy you have to stare at rather than kill?
Looking for something to play right now so this should help, cheers lads.
Outlast, Home Sweet Home, Emily Wants to Play, Resident Evil 7, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Layers of Fear, Oxenfree, amongthesleep, and Dead by Daylight. Just some suggestions before Halloween is over.
@@AlmightyPolarBear nice one mate, going to play RE7, it's on sale and I've actually never played it. Not one for first person games usually but this looks good!
@@Dave_ja_vu I haven't either, I have seen a fair bit of it though. Wishing I can try it with VR. Yeah, most horror games lately are in first person (Oxenfree, Dead by Daylight [Survivor], and Resident Evil 2 REmake are third person).
@@AlmightyPolarBear played it, and hated it at first. By hour 3 I was hooked🤣 great game so far, cheers for the recommendations, have never played oxenfree either so that's next for me to try out👌
@@AlmightyPolarBear I didn't play it VR myself, can only imagine it'd improve the fear factor tremendously, but it'd make you nauseous if you binged it I bet.
There were Gauntlet games on the N64 too
Alien isolation is probably the best horror game that's actually scary in the last decade.
Absolutely true. Straight up masterpiece
What was the horror game shown after Resident Evil 2 Remake when Peter was talking about Ray tracing?
I love your creepy little girl impersonation 😂
I litterly went to press start when I saw the opening............dumb hahahahaha
Thanks for setting off my Google Home bois
It's so hard to think of a good scary game. Everytime I came across one that was genuinely scary, I would nope the f out, and never play it again.
I don't think the game as a whole, has to be scary, just have moments that will make s#@t your pants.
If that's the case, the original xcom may not have made me need a change of trousers. It did give me skin crawling chills.
Also, 15 year old me, still is haunted by the flood in halo. Was totally unexpected and Creeepy
omg, that's what that game was called?? Ski 3 - I've played that! It must have been the first game I ever played. I think I was 4-5 years old. :O Man ! I never knew that was it's name xD Thanks! :D
I called yall and asshole without meaning to from the blip blip blip... dead yall legit made me jump clench my fist and say hey asshole lol. Love it.
6:34
I think they tried that already.
Watch Resident Evil: Apocalypse and you would want to eat that Jill Sandwich too.
What game is that during wildcard that had the reflection in the mirror of the big dude???
10:42 "The first Nintendo published game rated M for Mature --"
...um...that would be Perfect Dark?
Ravenholm wasn't that bad if you've seen the trailers to HL2 like I had. It was more like a physics playhouse. And I was a scaredy cat as a kid.
No bear from condemned 2? Okay then
You forgot Doki Doki Literature Club, the game is terrifying & unnerving.
The Batman Arkham City Killer Croc Easter Egg is horrible. You're trying to go about your day, getting all fhe Riddler Trophies, your unlock the remote control Batarang then right after you hit the switch, BAM, Killer Croc just randomly busts through the wall. I completely forgot that happened from when I played the game originally so i was in for a nice shock the 2nd time through.
Your ok Google caused my phone to tell me how to incorporate more vegitables into my diet. Thanks Peter
Shit that got me 😂😂😂😂😂
In the states Shin Ra is wal mart.
Alien Isolation is the best. In my opinion, the androids are the scariest part of the game. They are so creepy, nearly impossible to kill, and attract the alien. Plus, they can be deathly silent and you'll turn around and one is standing right there. Though the jump scares from the alien do get me. Once, I was crawling through a vent, couldn't see a darn thing, so I turned on my flashlight half expecting the alien to be crawling towards me. Nothing. Just a silent empty vent. Well, I learned the hard way that day that the alien uses open vents above your head. I'm crawling along, see an opening above me, then bam! I just about threw my controller and peed myself. Took a break for a while after that.
Alien Isolation was terrifying, as was ‘Outlast’ when I first played it and didn’t have a clue what it was about.
I loved outlast! did you like the second installment of the series?
Ask The Gods.
It's strove ,I am such a pedant excuse me
Welcome to pedants corner
Little girl research facility kinda sounds suspicious 🤔
I like to point this out when i have the opportunity to do so
The Resident 6 logo looks like someone blowing a Man-Giraffe. Check it out and see it forever
Better have the regenerator from RE4 on this list....
While on my first playthrough of Eternal Darkness, I actually went to bed when the clock had read 3:33am (also had a nightmare I still remember today).
Another time, the game literally went bluescreen on my friend's TV while playing and I thought it was just part of the "insanity effect". No choice but to reset the game.
OmG those stupid dogs in Res evil ! I was actually play this in the rain at night !! Yeh not fun !!
Pyramid Head is not a local.
System Shock 2
Nintendo keeps renewing the lisence to Eternal Darkness...maybe one day we'll get a remake or new title
PUBIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!
I never break eye contact with the FBI agent watching me through my phone, while I pull my pork.
You read that right. It’s not a typo.
I am more than a little sad that no one in your office picked the doll room from Fatal Frame II. Because that doll can just fuck right off... I mean really the screams me and my gf let off at when that thing came to life... we both decided to sleep with the lights on... and we were adults... grown living on own doing adult things adults... just no
Seriously? You dared to talk about scary music and not mention the drowning music in Sonic 2?
How you gonna drop that played in reverse fact and not even play it?
What is that called, the language phenomenon when English speakers say "I srawr it" instead of "I saw it"?
Alien was released in 1979 dude, not the 80s
Yo
Even though it's been 3 years since this was posted, a game moment that left me scared shitless was Super Mario 64 with the Chain Chomp. Hated that mf since I played the game on my Wii U(also RIP Virtual Console and 3DS/Wii U eShops). But Super Mario 64 had worse abominations with Unagi the Eel and the Piano.

I think Resident Evil 1 for the most wasn't less psychological or anxiety inducing than Silent Hill. Actually it was at least equal and it combined same level horror with better action compared to SH. You could ask the same questions in both games, and the origin of the zombies was unclear for the majority of the game, making all the creatures and events a mystery. It's too often forgotten, that it's only the end, when Resident Evil found unsatisfyingly boring answers to the mystic question. But before this end, fantasy could travel very far in this game. The house could have been cursed, it could have been an ancient horror story, some mythological or whatever stuff . Only in the end it was just a bunch of ruthless scientists and their stupid virus. Pretty dull. That's why I only like the first part of all RE games, as the great atmosphere of the first game gets demystified by it's own ending. And all later parts build on the stupid, lame virus story.
Besides that, there also was the technological aspect - SH1 looked so abstract, it wasn't really convincing me as a game. The fog was way too close and the graphics where way too coarse, so there was no feeling of being in a 'real' environment to me at any time. It was more like staring at ugly dithering with too much fog, which of course only was there because the PSX didn't have enough power (or they couldn't make good use it), and not really because it made for a better experience.
I think RE1 is better than SH1, because for the main part of the game (until the reasons behind all the show became clear) it combined same quality horror with somewhat better action. Only the ending and the lab part where crap. And I think only the ending is the reason why many people unjustifiedly remember RE being as less 'psycho'.
I know this is going to start a fight but resident evil 6 is better then 7

The voice acting in the resident evil games needs a little work.
Just start at 13; the introduction adds nothing.
