@@adjappleton I just watched a video about it and how her case started the tides turning where police started doing something about domestic violence calls. The police used to be called by Francine and her neighbors and her husband would tell them that he was going to beat her up worse when they left on many occasions. On that night, he told police he was going to kill her when they left and he almost did but he passed out\fell asleep she doused him with gas, threw the match and ran. Then she drove to the police station and turned herself in.

I wish boys wore cool fun stuff. That end look is how my hair looks naturally, it's really fluffy. Just auburn instead of blonde. But guys never wear fun stuff like that. If you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb you have to just wear tshirts and hoodies

The Burning Bed was based on Francine Hughes, who endured 13 years of severe domestic violence by her live-in ex-husband, Mickey, in Michigan.
Her trial actually changed how domestic abuse is viewed and treated in the justice system. Domestic abuse was not really taken seriously at the time, being dismissed as “family affairs” by the police. But the stories of abuse she endured from Mickey was so horrendous that she won a lot of public sympathy, and it emboldened many women to break their silence and speak out against domestic violence.
If you want learn more, here’s an excellent documentary about the whole thing. They interview Francine’s child and what he and his siblings lived through. (Goes without saying, but trigger warning: detailed stories of domestic violence)
