I've been an atheist since highschool but have been reading and learning more about God and the Bible since listening to Jordan Peterson's Biblical Lecture series. I recently bought an art piece from the 1880s that features Peter, James, John, and Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. I can't help but feel that after learning the backdrop of this story as you tell it is a calling from God to change my ways. Thank you for the video and God Bless.
I've been looking at Caravaggio ' s The Taking of Christ in the last few days - such an amazing artwork
@margaretrutherford5548 Wow, it is beautiful. Such a deep and dark background, yet such bright white reflections.
I bought an original print from Gustave Doré, which utilized his actual wood carving for the print in 1880, when they set up a museum to display his work here in the US. I bought it from a federal auction website from a museum that im assuming was going out of business/behind on their debts.
Be receptive to Gods will. Don’t push or pull, yet grow in virtue within Gods boundaries and pray to discern Gods will. Fall on your knees and humble yourself to submit your soul to the Almighty 🙏
The preacher man.
Prayers for your intentions 🙏🙏🙏
If I'm to just submit to God's will anyway then my own will seems pointless so it would be better if I didn't have one.
@@EuropeanQohelethThe point is not to Do the Will of God. It's to Be the Will of God. Which is a much harder thing to achieve, essentially you stay your yourself but simply learn to think with his sense of reasoning and Compassion.
Say YES to God OFTEN and it will become ALWAYS !!!!

My prayer is that the Lord will turn your weeping into laughter. The Lord will see you through this difficult situation and give strength and comfort.
I pray that you will have the gift of perseverance. I have tried to get rid of crosses in my life only to find new crosses. Your cross of mental health issues sounds challenging. I hope that you can find solutions to help with your cross. I have heard of many who have had improvements in an extremely low carb diet. 🙏🙏🙏

Always say YES to Jesus!
We usually say we are trying to be Good, but we can only Hope to be Holy. But we are suppose to be Holy and so, try to be and do Good. We are Holy when we are seperated from the rest, by Baptism, to belong to Him and to Him First. Then, we will live our lives differently from others, even at the risk of rejection. Thereupon, we try to Be and Do Good.
Dr. Edward Sri, these last couple reflections have been a tremendous blessing. Thank you!

Thank you - this is both inspirational and applicable. I didn't know he was alluding to Sirach - your teaching has really assisted me understanding his words in a personal and really helpful way. Truly my heart aches after watching your Video. Jesus who alone is Holy and Sinless, knew that He would drink the Cup of God’s Wrath. I believe this made His soul; “exceeding sorrowful, even to death:”
- Mark 14:34a
(I highly doubt that He was thinking of Judas betraying Him at this time, like you said.)
More fitting to Christ’s words of agony would be;
- Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.
~ Isaiah 51:17
He willfully took God’s Cup of Wrath.
He carried the Sins of the world, and suffered horrifically, and died on the cross, for Us and in Our place. We deserved to Drink that Cup. Jesus drank it for Us. 😭
Praise God 3 days later Jesus rose from the dead!✝️👏👏👏
- For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
~ Romans 6:23

The sorrow was from his father being cruel enough to put him through what he was about to
Think…… there is a mystery here… Peter did not cry in agony before being crucified …bible says he slept in peace the night before he was taken to Nero. Stephen the first martyr was bold and strong when he was being stoned to death… even the fisherman beheaded by isis was not in agony… then why Jesus
Because It was not the pain of crucification that bothered Jesus. It was because the dirty and filthy sins of the whole mankind was coming on to His Holy body on the cross. That was disgusting and painful… thats why the agony
I've heard it wasn't the sins, it was the people who know he did that yet couldn't care less.

From 12-3pm darkness came over the land and this time sins of the world came on the body of Jesus and thats why He calls out ‘ God’ instead of Father which Jesus always used
Jesus says about His body being germinated like wheat in the parable in Gospel of John
yeah imagine being james...
this showed up in my feed, decided to check it out hoping for some insights, but it's all the same platitudes one can hear from pretty much any preacher regardless of denomination. No one ever addresses the fact that Jesus says 'thy will be done' as being fully God, just as this Dr. Sri confirms. He is capable of doing that and everything else precisely because He is fully God. We are just imperfect struggling humans, and yet we are called upon to act like a perfect God and somehow when we fall short of that it's our fault in one way or another. Also, you may want to consider some truly serious trials and sacrifices many people deal with instead of picking easy strawmen/nonsense like a video on HBO (that's an example of a sacrifice worth using as an example? really? really?). But the thing is none of these theologians/preachers/friars/whatever/whoever ever raise real questions of real human tragedies, trials, sacrifices because none of them has the answer or knows anything. And that's understandable. But instead of humbly acknowledging their inability to truly address human tragedy/grief/sorrow, they continue releasing all these stereotype/strawmen-based/platitudinous "sermons." Yeah, a child not wanting to take meds is sure a great analogy for someone who is trying to cope with a tragedy of some sort. ...
And btw, next time practice in front of a mirror to avoid having this insane look in your eyes.
I understand your point of view, but the CCC has great insights about suffering as well as reading the Church Fathers. Without going too in-depth here, the beauty of God himself becoming man and praying this prayer to the Father is that Jesus does not leave us abandoned to try to follow God's will under our own power, but actually fills us with his grace to accomplish the task of perfecting us. Yes, sometimes our suffering is our fault, and sometimes it's not, but rather a symptom of the fallen world we live in.
The most astounding mystery in all of history is that the Eternal God, who is Life itself, would enter our condition and even enter into the curse of sin, which is death, in order to conquer sin and death for us. He did nothing to deserve death. He never had to experience it as a requirement upon himself. But in sheer goodness, God loved us enough to experience the curse of sin and die, out of obedient love of the Father.
Yes, we are imperfect, but Jesus says to take up our cross and follow Him. Where are we following Him to? Right up Calvary to be crucified with Him. If we unite our body to His body, our suffering to His suffering, He will pour out grace upon us to bear those sufferings with the same grace He had on the cross. In that, something miraculous happens: our sufferings become redemptive, and Christ works His perpetual sacrifice throughout the world. We become Him. He empowers us to do so in the Eucharist, the perpetual memorial of His actualized sacrifice. Then, if we die in Him, we will rise in Him. This is the promise of the Resurrection, which is the proof of Christ's victory on the cross.
I don't want to misrepresent what you're saying, but it sounds like you might believe that when we are imperfect and sin, then God looks at suffering as all our fault. But God sees the suffering sacrifice of love of the Son and the redemption He brings us. Some people will falsely say that the Father poured out all of His wrath upon the Son, and that's how we are saved. This is a counterfeit gospel, and 100% false. Rather, Jesus saved us by providing a voluntary, loving sacrifice that was more pleasing to the Father than the combined sins of all humanity from all time were displeasing to Him. Thus, the sacrament of reconciliation is not us doing x, y, and z to try to convince God to give us another chance. Rather, it's God communicating to us and asking us to give Him another chance to work on us and perfect us. He will never give up on us and gives us His grace abundantly if we desire it.
Please forgive me if I have misunderstood anything you have said here today. I will pray for you in your trials. Please pray for me, too. God bless you.
@@jarednathan2942 thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate it very much. But you sort of miss my point, or, perhaps, a comment format is not enough for me to clearly express it. That's ok, though. This is the kind of questions that only God can answer ... Thank you again!
I've been reading _I Believe in Love_ (Jean d'Elbée) based on the teachings of Thérèse of Liseux and this is the whole game: understanding that God loves you, and in particular that your sins are like drops of water in a furnace that is his love.
I see where you are coming from - I think theologians need to be more blunt about biological suffering aka suffering that comes from non-manmade sources, and also be like “we’re all sinners, don’t beat yourself up” at the same time talking about confessionals and prayer and remorse as a way of spiritual fulfilment and or punishment.
Hard balancing act.
@@HoundTor don't know where you got your ideas from, but it is not even close to my comment. But that's ok. I know it's hard to make some complex things clear in a social site comment section.
I may be naive or ignorant (I do not know you at all), but with all due respect Dr. Shri, I don't believe you have had to endure terrible suffering in your life. I'm sure you have had your own share of trials, but I wonder how strong your convictions would be if you sat in the Garden for years, even decades without a sliver of comfort from the Lord.
It doesn't matter how often you pray, how often you fast, how often you offer your suffering to the Lord. For many people, the Lord just permits you to suffer until it destroys you. Who knows what plan he has for your suffering but no amount of devotion will be a cure for many of us. We will ensure terrible physical and psychological pain until our final breaths.
Lord have Mercy.
What a rude comment. Maybe Dr Sri is so calm BECAUSE he has such strong faith that God will help him. Never assume someone’s problems by their face (and especially not a CZcams video.. of course he looks happy..)
@@epicmeow7688 You're right, you should not assume hence I disclosed my naivety and ignorance, but suffering from not watching an HBO show is a joyous welcome over seeing loved ones decay from years long illnesses.
@@raziel0111 Everyone has problems and for some people it may be worse. Not everyone is blessed with health, or a happy marriage. I am sorry to hear about your suffering, and will pray for you, but remember that everyone suffers in life, no matter what form it's in. HBO is just an example and I definitely hope no one is suffering because of TV. (Although, teenagers suffer, and over the dumbest things, but their suffering feels very real to them.)
Faith prevents suffering from destroying you. You make it seem as if there is no hope…but there is. Suffering passes away…it’s called Heaven. Maybe you should read Job…
@@tsr3779 I understand there is no suffering in heaven. But for many people with terrible suffering, there is no hope on Earth. No amount of surrendering to God’s will will heal your suffering unless he permits it to be healed.
I want to be zebedee
This guy has that same crazed fanatical look in his eyes that I see on lot of "woke" people preaching their own messages and which I deeply mistrust and am severely suspicious of. This makes it impossible for me to take anything he's saying seriously - or to even listen to what he's saying - and I could only watch 1:27 minutes of the video before I just had to stop it to write this message. I'm not watching the rest of it. I know it's strangely petty but I trust my instincts on this. Plus, I just can't pay attention when every alarm is going off in my head that this is a scam.
Nope. He got it wrong.
This guy is unbelievably creepy.
I question the thumbnail choice most of all. Only thing scarier would be Willem DaFeo grimacing at you…
Alright then, let's see your face in comparison.
he definitely is. He looks like some obsessed psycho from a horror movie with that stare. I remember reading a while ago the visible whites above the iris can be a sign of some psychopathology (in conjunction with a few other signs, of course). That may be one reason why he looks so creepy. Sorry to say.
Looks belong to God that’s how God created us. Look deeper to the heart.
@@timmorgan5221 it's not about "looks" "created by God," but about facial expressions which are one's own "creation" as facial expressions reflect the inner essence of a person. If such basic things have to be explained to people, how dense are these people, seriously. Gawd ...
Thank you
