I think older hip hop fans fail to realize sometimes that these artist today aren't necessarily making music to get caught. They are making music for their area, age group and people in that crowd. They didn't intend to be a superstar. They didn't expect the police and white people to be listening to deep mix tape cuts. Us older guys, remember a different time tho. Our artist did their thing but when they made the decision to go into the music business they understood they had to leave things alone. Their local music that had incriminating things in it were on tape. By the time they get signed they may only push the big songs that could be on radio and started over fresh with a studio album. They had A&R's and white label execs they had to meet and talk to so they were doing whatever to make the money. These artist now go from unknown, to people hearing every song good or bad online, to stardom really fast. So it takes a few years before they mature like the ones in the past did but all their local music with the raw energy is available to decipher. That's what makes them real is the fact they were actually that close. Our generation could sense you were real by how you carried yourself and word of mouth stories.
