Dark Travel vs Dark Odyssey comparison (JonathanGD levels)

- Dark Travel is a 2.1 Insane Demon created by JonathanGD. It is an XL level, lasting 6 minutes and 14 seconds long, and using the entire length of the song. It was the fourth "travel level" upon its release. The level contains an enormous quantity of objects, around 208,000.
Some parts of the level are really hard to pass, such as the first drop of the level. There are also some calm parts, such as the halfway part and the part right after that. Low Detail Mode and High Detail Mode are available in the level
It uses the song, "Dark Matter Suite (1f1n1ty + LOrbSheddy remix)," ( www.newgrounds.com/audio/list... ) which will also be featured in another upcoming travel level, "Nox Travel".
The level is for Viprin's 8th Creator Contest, where it won 3rd place in the unknown category.

Literal answer is to have the parts be in different sections of the level and move them in when their time comes
Lot of blending, triggers, and talent
Blending+Alpha+Glow+40 different groups+move, I kid you not look at this in the editor, that's how he did it, there's also a subtle pulse that affects each one of them in their different groups and when they get moved in the pulse bugs and creates a kind of super blend as the object exits the pulse range, which is why they are so realistic looking. I tried recreating this, it didn't work.

Sure Dark Odyssey is much more polished and the “better” level, and definitely shows how far Jonathan has come, but there’s just a certain charm to Dark Travel that it will never be able to have and Dark Travel was so much of a proportionally better level for when it was released

true 3:10 for example, dark travel is better. first of all the player goes up. so there is a sense of depth. dark odyssey it just felt cramped. also dark odyssey is a lot more balanced but i liked how dark travel had difficult parts and easy parts where u can relax on. dark travel felt so much more natural, especially 2:53
I feel like Dark Odyssey is more fun to play and more polished, but Dark Travel has more variety in the backgrounds and feels bigger.
It's like comparing the end of Evangelion and rebuild of Evangelion 3.0+1.0

You have to be super talented to fit so much emotion into a level, and the visuals made it clear that Johnathan put so much heart and effort into his level, and that's what's so beautiful about these levels, the love, care, and creativity put into these levels, and this part at 4:44 just makes me feel so happy. It's like there's a big story going on, and the 4:44 - 5:05 , 3:05 , and 3:20 - 4:07 feel like a ray of hope, and from the beginning happy tunes, to the soft somber ending, brings me on an emotional rollercoaster, and it's just so beautiful, these levels will always be my favorites. Johnathan GD, you have created two masterpieces that I will cherish forever.

I do have to admit, the levels are unbalanced. Or not certainly unbalanced, it's just a bit boring that they get harder and harder as they go on. But for some reason that never really annoyed me too much

In the new one, the atmosphere matches the song a lot better, there’s a lot less open space, and obviously everything is more polished and clean looking
5:19 up until the end is my favorite cuz it reminds me of the calm feeling after a large storm.

3:04 to 3:25
In Dark Travel the level is very open, comforting and dreamlike. Dreamcatchers are strung about as you head toward a very prominent light that as it transitions into the next section, disappears and then explodes into a beautiful cascading light.
Dark Odyssey on the other hand is more subdued with its light. You travel along a golden pathway as rain falls down and the lamposts you pass light your way, like you're taking a calming, relaxing walk through the street in the rain. It feels real, not dreary despite its scenery.
Personally if I had to force myself to choose, I'd pick Dark Odyssey's rendition over Dark Travel. It feels more in line with the music, and its transition into the next section of the level is better in my opinion, Idk why I typed this long message, I love this level too much.

4:39 in dark odyssey I could play a whole level with that layout of decoration and it would be my favorite level. 4:52 is also brilliant but it’s personally to much going on. The peaceful parts in the level are my favorite.

Kind of a controversial take here, but I don't thinking releasing a remake of Dark Travel was needed. Regardless of a few parts, the level aged pretty well for its time and still looks good today. Sure, Dark Odyssey looks even better, but some of the charm of Dark Travel was lost in the process, and it'll never be as impactful as Dark Travel was at the time.
He made Dark Odyssey because of a CC about remakes. He didn't finish it in time, but didn't just wanna stop making it
It did make a pretty huge impact.
The level had super awesome parts and different streamers are trying it out. The level requests in twitch are filled with requests of this level.
Maybe it wasnt needed. But you must agree dark oddesy needs an epic rate

Dark Travel was my favourite level for a loong time, but Dark Odyssey... if Dark Travel is perfect, Dark Odyssey is another level higher than perfection, both levels convey many feelings and can even make you cry, this is because i consider dark odyssey is my new favourite levels
