My favourite band ever, their sound is unique and like landscapes. I love the last album as much as Ultramarine and every previous album. Agree that not many people appreciate them. I listen to them every day for the last 20 years, unreal!
When they were first out you could tell they had listened to a lot of English music, as they sounded much more like they were from that scene, Bunnymen+Smiths etc with a bit of a Cocteau Twins sound edge to the guitars.

I just rediscovered them today. Back then they were too mellow for me on the alternative scene. I liked hard driving synth dance. At 63 I now am fully into it. Don't know if I can go to one of their upcoming shows. But today I bought their 1st Album and Ultramarine. Plus a cool T Shirt. LoL
@@vicolandtributes8607 I saw the Abecedarians open for New Order on the "Low Life" tour twice, at Irvine Meadows and the Santa Monica Civic, back in 1985. I didn't know who they were at the time but they were great.
Saw them 1990, openign for MIghty Lemon Drops at the Pine Street Theater in Portland...... one of the best openers-that-outdid-the-headliner- shows ever.
I think the influences in the 80s were massive, but what made the difference were these teenagers, they broke that sound without leaving the scene behind, especially English, I'm from Mexico.
Such great music from a fantastic band. I took so much shit from friends in college for listening to these guys. Still listening to Ocean Blue….those friends are gone.
Wow a smiths cover, I wasn’t expecting that. That is one of my favorite smiths songs, too. Reminds me of my uncle in Mexico, a rabid smiths fan since the 80’s. His life was one long run of bad luck and ended a couple of years ago when he was gunned down while opening his shop. When I hear that song, I always think of him

Congrats un your finding, "Vanity fair" (in my opinion) that is one of the best songs from the "The Ocean Blue" album, along with "Love song", "Ask me Jon", "A Familiar Face" they're songs to relax and enjoy, besides the main singles from that album, I RECOMMEND IT!! 👍

@@maremagnus they said "after their first couple of albums" - Cerulean WAS their second album. I'm sure they have heard that, maybe even Beneath the Rhythm and Sound, considering that's when they stopped being on Sire.

They did "There is a light that never goes out" back in the day, was a b-side on the single for "Peace & Light" , so good!!

Wow! I watched these guys in Seattle in the early 90s. Some small venue, can't remember the name tho. It was awesome.
Back at those days Rob Minnig was on drums and sounded even better cause he gave much more dynamics to the songs.
