I had those when I was 5 and in the Island we used to make them out a plant found all over the world :) you can also get a metal bottle cap, remove the cork in it and hammer it to a flat then fold it in 2 and bang a hole with nail at 3/16 from the fold. Open the cap a bit ,set in mouth and is the loudest whistle you can hear. Those were the days when you made your own toys :) No toys R us

But in all seriousness, they sell salami pre sliced in the deli section or in a plastic roll without skin in the cold section of the supermarket. I live in New zealand, I have never seen skinned salami and I eat a lot of it. It comes pre sliced or in plastic tubing (actual plastic packaging, not skin) here. I still think it's an american thing
