- Today we are giving you our first impressions of Luang Prabang, Laos in 2024: the most underrated city in Southeast Asia.
We start super early by observing the amazing Tak Bat or Alms Giving Ceremony to the monks. We then make our way to the famous Luang Prabang Morning Market, where we explore some yummy traditional Laos food. After that, we visit Wat Xieng Thong, one of the most important monasteries in Laos, where we learn a bit more about Lao’s history, culture and traditions.
We then walk on the Mekong River Promenade along the Mekong River where we stop by for some fantastic coffee with a view. Soon we will explore the beautiful Luang Prabang Historic Town area and admire its aesthetic French colonial architecture and old-world charm. For lunch, we stop by at a rustic restaurant beside the streets of the Historic Town. In the afternoon, we go on a Mekong Sunset Cruise and get a 360-degree view of life around the Mekong River in Laos.
Our travel in Southeast Asia is incomplete without food, and hence our evening involves a visit to Luang Prabang’s Night Market where we taste some Laos food as well as some other delights.
Luang Prabang combines Lao’s history and traditions with beautiful nature and experiences, making it very underrated compared to some of its counterparts in Southeast Asia in 2024.

Interesting place, great comprehensive video !
What is the weather like in Luang Prabang during the year? Is it intolerably hot and humid like the big cities of Southeast Asia? Is it like a sauna? How does Luang Prabang compare to Cambodia, like Siem Reap? Luang Prabang is particularly appealing as a relaxing and uncongested place to retire.
The food is very delicious.
We loved the food so much. They variety is amazing and all so tasty 😋
Beautifully hidden place, Luang Prabang. A day beginning with monks receiving alms and giving back to the needy (never thought about this aspect), through quiet and not so quiet walks, through the breathtaking sunset on the Mekong, to the night market offerings--wonderful!!!
Thank you ❤🙏😇
I really appreciate the effort in pronouncing the Lao words correctly or close to correct. I can telll you’ve taken the time to learn. I just came from another recap of Laos and not one Lao word was pronounced with effort. I don’t expect perfection, just a tiny bit of effort is huge! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! 🙏🏼
We try our best to get the pronunciation as right as possible, it is not always that easy but everyone has always been very helpful and excited to teach us. ❤
What a pretty town! Observing the monk procession was special - thank you for sharing it with us. As always, your commentary and photography captures the town's uniqueness beautifully - thank you Beyond AtoB for another excellent take on a town in Laos.
It was a truly stunning little town. Getting to watch the monks was very special. We glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the support 😁
Wow ! They get up so early to give alms
Yes they get up very early. It was an amazing to see
People in Laos get up early, but at this ceremony, mostly the tourists are the ones who give the alms.
ສະບາຍດີ hi
Hi ❤️
hope u enjoyed the country of my mom, I was raised and educated under Theravada Buddhism (the oldest and traditionnal Buddhism) experienced monk's life many times there are several levels to access to Knowledge, generally the "beginners" as monk have less rules to follow it can go to more than 252 rules for the highest level of monks. Please don't hesitate to ask if there's any question there's no silly questions and Hello from France ! nice video btw !
We loved Laos so much and can not wait to go back. We look forward to learning a lot more and spending more time with the locals. That is amazing 252 rules, wow. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. ❤
