This is pretty old...when I joined up in '92, the 47s were brand new, just being deployed to eight stations nationwide. Now they're everywhere and already considered old.
My first SAR station in '95, Point Judith (RI) still had one 41', one 44' (rusty POS), one non-standard RHIB, and for part of the time I was there, they still had one of the last 30' SRBs. It got decommed sometime in early fall of '95.

I was at MLB school in 1990. They were running the first prototype of the 47ft MLB. I wasn't sure what to think about it at first. Especially with the high open cockpit. I can figure that's only for calm seas. But I now appreciate the design. The slanted windows, the low profile stern.... And the speed of the 41 ;-)

I'll always love The Triumph. Did they ever pick a flat calm day on the bar.

Ya I recall those days-After 911 things changed for the CG they got the money they should have gotten all along.Another thing they should have never changed the uniform.I remember going to Wildwood NJ for the weekend and the ladies came up to us and ask if we were bus drivers.WTF

USCG is still underfunded, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. Plus, uniforms are just BDU's colored blue.
