OMGoodness! It's so wonderful to watch that little boy grow up! He's so lucky to be growing up the way he is in such a lovely home with such wonderful parents!

Do you all never have wildlife other than song birds? I'm 75 and we never had whitetail deer, black bears, turkeys in our area until about 8 years ago. Now we see them daily. With you living with forest all around I would think you might have to be cautious like us!

My favorite moment is when Ivar realized he was being filmed, he looked at the camera and smiled, O... that was so adorable!! Also when he was learning how to skip, that was beautiful, good dad. Ivar is growing up, he put a smile on my face, every time I see him. Thanks for the video.

The bird houses are really nice. Our fine feathered friends will have a place to call home.
Your wintertime is really long, but so nice! In Germany we have temperatures of summer in May ( sometimes). I like so much your creativity and engagenent for your child. Ivar is a wonderfull boy! It's so sweet, to hear / read bis comments. Climbing wall and birdshouses are amazing projects. Ivar learns to live with nature and his little life is full of joy and love of his parents! That impresses me !❤

I love how you are attentive to Ivar that is so important I still remember one time one of my little girls came up to me talking and then she looked up noticed I was not paying attention and walked away as soon as I saw her look, I called her back and told her I was sorry but I lost the moment she didn't want to repeat said, " it's OK Mama", I still cry when I think of that she is 52 now. That is so important.
I recently got Covid and was more or less miserable and useless for a week. The one thing I still managed to do was change the birdbath water daily, replenish hummingbird nectar and fill bird feeders with suet and black oil sunflower seeds. I lay in bed later, achey and feverish with my bedroom window opened for the fresh Spring air and comforting sounds of all the happy and well fed birds. I don't really need to feed the birds (except hummingbirds), because my 12 acre forested homestead is filled with long established, healthy conifers and deciduous trees and dead standing snags
I call the giant standing snags BIRD CONDOS 😊.

Love, love, love your birdhouses… funny that this year I am replacing my old semi rotting ones that need to be exchanged for new. I had to buy mine already made as I’m almost 80 & wouldn’t attempt making them myself any longer. I live in the northeast USA (state of Vermont), so I have a yard full of tufted titmouse birds, chickadees, nuthatches, wrens, robins, bluejays & cardinals. Was happy to hear that we share the same species & live so far from each other. Enjoyed every minute of this video. Each one you do enriches my life in one way or another. So, thank you…always.

So nice you're into climbing Mathias. I've been climbing for 17 years and it has been so good to have that in my life. Exposing Ivar to that at such a young age is so beneficial. Looking forward to see you projects on the spray wall :).

Where I live we put up houses for the birds too, for the same reason as where you live - poor management of the forest. We don't have so many trees because I live in the desert, near our southern border with Mexico. We have the big saguaro cactus and this functions as our large trees. The woodpeckers make the holes, and other birds use them. It is kind of you to think of what the birds need too. Ivar has so much to say these days. He is at a wonderful age and I can see he has much imagination. It's good he lives there with you guys, in the woods. It's the best way to grow up.
As always a magnificent video. I loved these precious moments when Ivar is with family with beautiful music and reindeer, skiing with the cat, etc. So nice Mathias and Ivar could spend more time with Finnish family and it was a real joy to be with beautiful Tova a little more for gardening. Your bird houses are gorgeous and you make many beings happy! Ivar... more adorable than ever. I loved learning more about bird habits. Woohoo climbing fun for Ivar!! A trail camera would be fun footage, but I understand the desire to leave it a pure atmosphere. Ivar has grown to such a fun young man!

great photo of the nuthatch. i call them "upside down birds". two species (?) visit my bird feeder. the smaller variety seem to speak to me.
The best thing about your video which appealed to me, was your love of the existence of small birds. I find that in my life one thing I never tire of is watching small birds, just living about, jumping branch to branch, so alive, and listening their songs. As you said their songs is one of the most important things in life, and that I truly believe. In light of this, I offer you a genuine serious reverence, and I thank you for sharing your kind and nature loving thoughts.
Sorry this is long, but, i can't help myself, you's are still the sweetest family i watch on yt. He melts my heart, every time. Loved the skiing times, reminded me of 20 yrs ago, when i skied with my 2 small grand children. Awww, when daddy gave him a pile of snow, for his machine to move !! too cute. Brilliant idea, making those bird houses with long boards & cut them into the many you wanted to build, genius . & the bottom like a flap so you can clean it out. 10 yrs, better late than never, i always say ! Tnx for the close up of screwing it to the tree, i was wondering how to do that. tfs xoxo

Thank you! I can now understand about half of what Ivar is saying :) He has a wonderful imagination and an inquisitive mind. Is he still reading about Pettson and Findus? I love how you make winter fun up north. We tend to stay inside and wait for warmer weather, but of course that’s not an option when snow lingers until June. Fingers crossed for the seeds in the greenhouse! Wonderful drone shots, Matthias, as ever :)
I love how you care about wildlife ! No it is not too late to put nests. Sometime birds find a nest to breed just two days before they start laying.
I would love to see all the kinds of birds you have in Sweden. I can spend hours just watching them.

Another great film. Ivar is so entertaining. You are right the birds that climb are nuthatches.
We have bats that roost in the roof of our house. It is a nursery roost so only mothers and babies and they are only there in the summer months arriving in March and leaving September/October depending on the weather. It is wonderful to go out at dusk and watch them flying out to feed. They can be quite noisy in the roof space above our bed with lots of chittering once the babies arrive but it has become one of the sounds of summer for us along with the birdsong. ❤

We put sheet metal around the tree under the bird houses to keep the cats from getting into the houses

I love your way of life - I got rid of all the magazines with advertising on it - I got rid of make up as well and doing everything DIY at home with Dad. I love living off the grid as well - and doing home made cooking.

Wonderful video as always. There is a bird in US called a Nuthatch. I enjoy watching all the different birds and listening to their songs. Best wishes on the plants in the greenhouse. It can be so frustrating hardening off the plants. I hope this works for you. 😊

Seeing all that snow in May really brings home how short your growing seasons is. In the South of France in April everything is in full bloom and we start to harvest full baskets of strawberries. Now at the end of May it's almost time for the first batch of hay making.

I love your videos and the way you all embrace the nature. One thought I would like to share about the birds, is that besides the forestry destroying the natural habitats, the birds also have prey that they need to be protected from, which again is natural and the way of life. But your cats are also hunting them and giving them more reason to flee. Here in Australia, it is becoming more important to make laws for people to keep their domestic cats inside, so we can protect our wildlife. The domestic cats kill many small animals and sadly have been the reason some of our native animals are endangered. I am not suggesting that you keep your cats inside, as they are very used to being outside. But be wary of their hunting habits maybe.

I also made birdhouses in my pasture this spring for tree swallows. They are fun because they fly around animals catching the flies that come out of the grass as they walk around. I didn’t think I would have any since it is my first year with birdhouses but they did come and nest! I hope you have as good of luck!

Lovely to see you relaxing and enjoying the environment, Mathias & Tova. The climbing wall is a great idea. It would be mad and difficult to climb, but how about extending it up via an overhang around the eaves of the roof ?
Bat box is good ...because it is a box. Bat roost is the more common term/description (roost = a place where winged animals sleep - birds, bats etc)
