I've been pulled over while carrying. I simply informed the the officer that I'm carrying a legal firearm on my left hip. I asked if I could reach for my license, registration and CCW card. No issues whatsoever. I also rolled down all my windows, turn off my radio, turned on my dome light and had both hands on the steering wheel. I got a 75 in 55 speeding ticket, I deserved it. Off topic. I carry everywhere, even if they have a sign telling me not to. Worse they will do is ask me to leave if they happen to notice. I've ignored those signs since 2012 when the Aurora CO. movie theater was shot up. I lived 15 minutes away at the time. I never want to be one of the sheep being culled by the crazies.

Last time I was pulled over was maybe ten years ago. I ran a red light. Local guy and his partner pulled me over. Two cars ran the red (4 lane road) but I was the sacrifical lamb . They asked me if I knew why I was pulled over, I said yea I ran a red. He was surprised. He asked me if I was going anywhere quickly because of an emergency and I replied no, just thought I could make it. He went back to his car, ran my plates, gave me my license back and said he appreciated my honesty and that I was free to go (no warning and no ticket). Cops are people. There are good people and there are shitty people. In my experience the majority are good, but that doesn't mean we ignore the shitty either.
You didn't get a ticket because the female officer was in bewildered by that beard!!! If I had pulled you over I would have geeked out and said "oh shit its Mr Gunsandgear....what guns do you have in the truck and talked guns for an hour"..."then ask for a selfie with you" lol.

I've been pulled over while carrying twice now. Both encounters went pretty much the way you described. As long as you communicate with police, keep your hands in view and follow instructions, there really shouldn't be a problem.

I carry all the time and been pulled over a number of times. Never needed to disclose having firearms unless they ask. Otherwise they don't need to know and I go on my way. Never had a problem.

As a cop, I appreciate this. Legally armed/responsible citizens make my job easier! Keep up the good work.
Whenever I stopped someone and they had interior lights on, hazards going, hands in plain sight, I knew I either had an ex-con wanting to be careful, another cop who knew the score, or legal concealed weapon carrier. Funny thing, if they were a cop, their gun was usually on them. If they were a fed, it was likely in the glove compartment or console. They all got a big thank-you from me for making the whole encounter safer and easier than it might otherwise have been.
Occasionally I'd get someone new to concealed carry who would look terrified and squeak that they had a gun and a CCL. I'd tell them thanks for letting me know, let them know there was no requirement to inform me of that but I appreciated their efforts to head off misunderstandings. I might ask for license or registration or whatever and they'd freak out ... "But ... that's in my console... and my GUN is in there!" Well, I'd say, so long as it STAYS in there then we won't have any problems. In my area of the deep south, it was pretty much assumed most folks were armed anyway. Had a lot of good side-of-the-road conversations about 2nd Amendment, gun laws, ammo choices, etc.

@@steelmilkjug - It comes under the "Provide for the Common Defense" ideal set forth in the Preamble of the Constitution. Note here, it's quite late, I'm exhausted so please forgive spelling errors and other minor stuff. Anyway, under common law it is recognized that when a law is enacted (so long as it is a Constitutional law and that the legislative body that enacted it has the authority to do so) then the legislature that enacts said law has the ability to enforce it. The ability to enforce it implies the right to use force, so long as that force does not violate the Constitution (specifically the 4th, 5th, and 8th Amendments).
Police powers (and ergo police) exist and are limited in the scope of their powers first by the U.S. Constitution above all, then by any lesser laws (state constitutions, department policies, etc).
Forgive me for not going point-by-point in the Constitution, going over the various SCOTUS and other court rulings (rulings they are empowered to make by the Constitution). I'm too tired to look it all up and link you to it. Just search, and I'd recommend using a few search engines. If you are trying to get information for an article, maybe speak to a college instructor who teaches Constitutional Law. Seriously, they'd probably be glad to help. You might also reach out to your state's Peace Officers Standards and Training Center or local police academy. So long as you are polite and let them know you're just doing research they will probably give you a wealth of information. If there is a public library close to you, there may well be law books in their research area and the librarians would help you find the info you seek as well. It would make a pretty cool article or research paper, honestly. Wish I'd thought of that when I was in college.

Armed Citizens, State Militas, and Federal Military are the Legal MEANS....Not POLICE... An Armed Citizen, organized in State Militias, Defended by Federal Military, NEED no illegal Police "Protection"..... And the Police KNOW that...that's why it's Police Agencies who disarm Citizens, banish State Militias. If they can abolish Legal MEANS of "Common Defense", you will be dependent THEM for it. Like you, it had been 20 years since I had been pulled over. But I broke my streak last week.
Before he approached my vehicle, I rolled my windows down and noticed the window ledge of my truck was quite wide. I took out my wallet, laid it on the window ledge and put both hands of the wheel. After answering his first question, I informed him that I had a valid CCW permit. He said he “appreciated the heads up”. He asked if and where I was carrying at the moment. I said yes and on my right side. He gave me permission to produce my credentials from my wallet that was already in plain view.
A few moments later, he let me carry on about my business without any paperwork.
I am VERY thankful. And I think it helps to show the authorities that you respect their difficult task to confront complete strangers.
It's these kind of anecdotes that support the data that show CCW holders have fewer criminal convictions than even cops themselves.
Absolutely agree. If they see we are concerned for their safety and show them professional respect, it usually goes very well. Most LEO's pick up on that and show respect in return.
I agree. I have a good friend who is a LEO and if at night turn on all interior lights to help. I have been pulled over 4 times for traffic offenses.(all deserved) and I have more positive results carrying than not( no tickets) My state does not require CCW on interaction but I always give it with license even if I am not carrying ( cause I cant at my work). I end up with a better result.

Legally you don’t have to tell a cop you’re a CCW holder unless they ask you.
I had been pulled over twice in one year. Both times I informed the officer by having my license out with my CHL and handed them to the officer immediately. Both times they asked me where the weapon was, and both times I received a warning. 2 different agencies, but they both gave me the safety speech, and a warning. I guess it pays to be old and respectful. Good Job!

@@Incessuserro In the state of North Carolina it's illegal to not notify a law enforcement officer conducting a lawful stop that you are a concealed carry holder and carrying a firearm.
@@SkinnySkinch Understood. That law is a violation of The Constitution. Possessing a weapon is not a crime. Invoking one's right to answer or not answer questions is also not a crime. Government has conjured up this law because of a fraction of incidents where criminals used a gun against LEOs.
@@Incessuserro Yeah I get your point man but at the end of the day everyone that wants to give cops a hard time because of the few bad ones or because they want to flex their constitutional right to be silent just make everything more difficult for most officers just doing their job. I respect the police and what they do for society. Do I always agree with them? Hell no. Nobodies perfect though. Simply providing enough information to keep the police officer at ease for their own safety shouldn't be something anyone morally wants to withhold from the police whether technically legal or not. Like I get everyones point about our rights, but common courtesy goes a long way. Be civil. Be human. These people didnt sign up to be cops just to be tyrants. Just like you say a fraction of criminals used a gun against a LEO so why should that tiny fraction mean we have to tell them anything for their safety, well I say the same argument for LEOs being tyrants. Very few are. If a cop pulls me over because I broke the law, Im going to be respectful and own up to it. If a cop comes to my front door to try and confiscate my firearms because a liberal government decided to take away my right to defend myself and my family bc of a few bad apples then yeah im not going to be so polite and "sheep like" in that instance.

It's mandatory in some States
FNS ON THE HIP!! ,not here in Washington state. RCWs > Title 9 > Chapter 9.41 > Section 9.41.050 (b) Every licensee shall have his or her concealed pistol license in his or her immediate possession at all times that he or she is required by this section to have a concealed pistol license and shall display the same upon demand to any police officer or to any other person when and if required by law to do so.

I got pulled over recently also and it went real smooth I handed him my license and my permit to carry together he asked where my gun was I told him I had on my left hip and a AR in the trunk I asked if I should put my gun on the dash or anything he said nope you leave yours where it is and I ll do the same and laughed lol just be smart and polite and you’ll have success

Thanks for the positive story. The vast majority of law enforcement are extremely pro 2A. As a Deputy I actually enjoy my interactions on traffic stops with concealed carriers. Its relieving when they announce as I have a better idea of who im dealing with, an armed law abiding citizen who went through the process to get their carry license vs a completely unknown individual who may or may not be armed and have ill intent. Plus I get to talk guns with them 😉. Always more to learn.

Good to post these stories. I had a very similar experience, went very professionally, officer even thanked me for informing him before leaving. 1:30 am on a Friday night, he was hunting OUI’s. I have a ccw permit, but now our State also adopted constitutional carry. I give LEO a wide birth and utmost courtesy.

I was pulled over a few years ago (expired tags) the interaction between the office and myself mirrored yours almost to the letter. I received a verbal warning about the tags and went on about my day. We have a lot of great officers here in Missouri and I’m quite thankful for them.
Being polite, respectful and knowing what to say goes a long ways. I'm sure the LEO was very happy with this encounter.
Kudos to you by following SOP from conceal class training!!! Letting the officer know of firearms in the vehicle, but nice outcome everyone goes on there way!!!

I've been pulled over here in GA a couple times since acquiring my CCWP - be respectful and tell them, and they will "usually" respond with same respect.

The majority of the time, this is how those police interactions go with law-abiding armed citizens. I was pulled over a couple of years ago while carrying my pistol concealed and I was so nervous, I was shaking. The Highway Patrol was so professional and put me at ease, even after I told him I was "packing heat". Positive experience that day for me too. Thanks for making this video.

i live in California and the cops here freak out over BB guns. ive literally had the cops storm my house with guns drawn because my brother and his friends were playing with airsoft guns in the garage and someone passing by called the police and said "theres kids playing with toy guns and im worried some of the bbs might hit a car or a person". and even after they realized for sure that they were airsoft guns, they stayed there questioning my brother and his friends for another 20+minutes.
Just don't tell them. You have the right to defend yourself against police thugs.

That's never going to happen. Police are American citizens too and seriously the overwhelming majority of them are pro gun. Plus even an anti-gun officer or soldier knows they would not last an hour trying to take guns in the US.

Had a similar experience with a trooper in South Carolina. Perfect example of how/when to let the officer know of a firearm. Always state location of needed identification BEFORE making any movement. Once they know what to expect you’re all good! They need to know where the “hazard” is in relation to your hand movements. No big deal

Very glad you shared this. I had the same exact thing happen to me.. We’ve been so brainwashed by the media it shocked me that the officer responded as professional as he did when I told him I was carrying a firearm. He literally didn’t flinch and wrote me a warning for speeding.

I live down here in FLA in Charlotte county and was on my way to work at 330am and got pulled over for going to fast had my 229 in my center console so I put the hazards on rolled my window all the way down pulled over turned the car off put keys on dash and had both hands out the window from my wrists forward also told him I was carrying gave him my license and ccp cop was awesome gave me a warning like you and then we talked about where we go shooting and why the sig P series is the best line of fire arms ever made as he carry’s a 226 moral of the story put your self in there shoes traffic stops are the most dangerous thing for a cop and just showing the cop that your probly not a bad guy can make things go your way

Thank you for stating this. This is a very simple fact that is either something detainees are ignorant of or intentionally ignore but the golden rule is "golden" for a reason. Nothing above minimal respect is owed but LOTS can be easily gained in short order with simple and easy actions. LEO risks ALL on EVERY. Show them some respect and you will likely get it returned. Show them disrespect and you definitely won't (and shouldn't) get any returned. IF you don't know how or what qualifies as amenable behavior, ASK somebody quick.
Detainees actively, by their own choice present themselves as that faceless, soulless humanoid depicted in all the LEO training literature if they disrespect the risk said manuals are created to mitigate.
I am not LEO and those who are might say this is an extremely literal and possibly harsh way to look at it. I hope so. That means it would put me clearly on the side of my personal safety during a detention.
Proper all the way! Kept your hands visible, informed you were armed and communicated clearly and truthfully all the way. No bad attitude and cooperative, that's the right way to proceed when stopped by a cop. Most of them will reciprocate that respect and everything will be fine. They DO have a stressful job and all they need is cooperation, frosting on the cake being YOU are a smart and responsible guy! Kudos!

Went thru the same situation last Friday evening. I was driving 53 in a 45 when he stopped me. My license was in my briefcase so I ask permission to get it. I gave him my driver license and CCL. He ask if I was armed and I answered “yes”. He then gave me my CCL back and went to check my driver license. He came back thanked me for my corporation. No ticket, not even a warning ticket. He told me to be careful and try to drive the speed limit. You corporate with them and you will never have a problem.

I’ve been pulled several times while CCW. I always do the same as u have described. One of those times the rookie cop thought he would run the serial number which took a long... time. He also unloaded my firearm in his patrol car, lost the cambered round under his seat, and hooked his horn several times while trying to find. When he brought it back he said he would put the magazine in my trunk. Which I declined and asked him politely to put it in my glove box. The other pull overs the cops have never asked to see or take possession of my firearm.

With every traffic stop, communication and body language are the keys to a happy ending. A traffic stop is in itself a stressful situation, the officer is stopping a complete stranger with little or no information about him until they approach the vehicle. So you did everything right and everyone went home happy.

Glad it worked out well for you! I was in a traffic accident last week and did inform the investigating officer I had a concealed carry permit and was carrying. I did have time before he arrived to have my license, registration and proof of insurance right in my hand so no need to dig for them when asked for them. All went much the same as your experience, professional and courteous. I was not at fault so the other driver got the ticket. No one got hurt badly and everyone went home as in your incident. That's all we can ask for.

Good to hear a positive police encounter!
Mine was similar, rolling through a stop sign in an unfamiliar neighborhood. The only difference was that the cop took my pistol in the glovebox and put it in my trunk. Got a verbal warning. If you respect the officer, they will usually return the favor.
As far as written warnings, they give those out now so that it can be documented in case you repeat the same offense. Most of the time you won't get it if the officer is in a rush.
The fact that we have to pull over in the first place, put our hands in plain sight, and fear for our lives at some level, and all for absolutely nothing in this particular case (no victim = no crime), speaks volumes as to what kind of state we live in (a police state).
f308gtb1977- Not the case at all. Officers deal with dangerous people and situations all the time. Showing some respect and keeping the situation calm and very open goes a long way. If there are firearms in play everyone gets jacked up. As Mrgunsandgear pointed out, he is legally obligated in his state to declare his CCW. Prior to doing so he set the scene for a smooth calm transaction. Really no different than having your money/debit card/credit card ready to pay before you get to the window at a drive through. In a police state you wouldn't be permitted to own let alone carry firearms... Go read a book and learn something.
f308gtb1977 how do you think cops catch criminals to begin with? Criminals transport illegal weapons, drugs, even their victims in their cars sometimes. You have a lesser expectation of privacy in your vehicle by law for this reason. Traffic stops are not just to punish you for a minor infraction. They’re meant to help police discover “real” criminals.
My state doesn't require us to notify police officers that we are carrying. In conversations with police officers I've had as trainers most have recommended to me that I don't bring it up unless asked to leave the vehicle or reach into an area where a firearm is located. Their reasoning was that it can add complications to the stop and depending on the experience of the officer it might put the officer on edge unnecessarily. Obviously follow your state laws. Windows open, hands visible, slow movement, and dome lights on at night are all good tips.

The first time I got pulled over the cop said “license and registration please.” As I reached over to my glove box I remembered I had my Glock 23 in there. I put my hands on the steering wheel and calmly told him so. I now begin every encounter that way and I’m not even sure if I’m required to do so. The last thing either of us needs in that situation is a firearm surprising anybody.
Being calm, polite goes a long way. Happened to me last year. Prior to that I had not been blue lighted in 10-12 years. (I can’t lie I was nervous when he asked if I was armed) At the end of the day he & I both went home to our families. TFS
I just retired from law enforcement. The tip is always comply, notify the officer 1st that you have a firearm whether it's on your person or in your vehicle. One of the worst things you can do is try to video tape the encounter by reaching for your cell phone (a bad thing to do at night especially)
I was pulled over for a faulty headlight while carrying a gun, I told them I had it even though I didn't have to in my state. (a constitutional carry state)
They asked if they could search my car and when I said no, they wasted 20 minutes of my time trying to find a way into my car. Even brought a canine. I was just trying to get to the gas station.

Gun saved you from getting a ticket in my experience. They seem to let drivers off with a warning when you handle the situation correctly while carrying.

I've been pulled over in a few different states with firearms... best part is, I'm here telling you this. You are absolutely right about being polite and courteous. Once cops know that you're carrying because your told them, you're more than likely to havea great interaction

1) if the police are corrupt, this won't help you defend yourself against the bad guy police officer.
2) the majority of the police forces are good honest people who are trustworthy.
3) good communication is (as you did) essential to surviving a police encounter.

Great Vid.... I do all of the above things you mentioned including having all documents pre staged in the car for quick access so that I already have them out before anyone gets to the window. Not having to ask to reach for anything eliminates one more potential issue. Also, asking if there is anything you can do to make them more comfortable with the situation is a extra touch(again your objective is not dying) shouldn't have to but well worth the time if you have kids or family you care about.. All my(2)times have gone well although I did get tickets(Mrluckygear ) None have asked me to do anything btw just stay in the car. They are in control, live to fight another day. If you feel you've been mistreated thats not the time to fight it.
The current shooting down in Florida wasn't justified in my eyes. You can't pick a fight(and yes you messing with my wife is picking a fight with me) I jack you up then you get to shoot me dead. Same as road rage ... You can't carry a gun and go around flipping people off and expect when they loose their mind and punch you that you are going to pull a gun to defend yourself. Carrying a gun takes your responsibility to a higher level. He's probably not going to jail and the law covers him currently but shootings like that are not helping our 2A cause.

Mrgunsngear Channel sorry dont normally chime in but watching other police stops where it doesn't go well and having the reaction "duh" not surprised the officer shot you. Cwp...training should be a lot scenarios like that. As for the shooting probably won't make CNN cause it won't fit the perfect narritive.

But I know police officers around the country were cringing. But in my town of Pennsauken NJ are awesome. I've seen them in action. They are great and professional. Jim Beam they currently are trying too do a gunban by making ccw feels very high. They are calling for a 2400 percent hike. One fee going from five dollars to five hundred dollars. Jim Beam- Yep , it is a terrible state for gun laws. Years ago PA State police could not even carry over the bridge even when transporting a prisoner..

Handled it perfectly. I too got pulled over recently while I was carrying. Followed the same protocol re: telling him I was going to get my wallet/registration. We ended up chatting about guns and he gave me a warning (expired registration). The times I've been pulled over while carying, I feel like the cops think of me as on "their side" and are more lenient than not. Well done!
Fantastic! Well done! I do the exact same. Turn on all internal lights, turn off the vehicle, sitting still and all windows down, hands in plain sight and verbally communicating and validating before moving to provide needed documents.

I had a similar experience a few years ago. I was pulled over for doing 50 in a 35. As soon as the lights came on I pulled over & turned on my overhead light & kept my hands on the wheel. He came up & asked for my paperwork & I told him that there was a firearm in the car, where it was, & told him I wasn't going to get my license due to it being in my lunchbag which was next to my sidearm. End of the story is that because I was up front & courteous, he gave me a verbal warning. We shook hands & went about our business. Don't be a dick & you won't be treated like one

Mrgunsngear: First, thanks for the 'positive" feedback on your encounter with an LEO. You did everything correct! People do not understand that walking up on a vehicle on a "traffic stop" is, or should be, the time when Officer should be observant as to what is going on in the stopped vehicle. Another thing people should keep in mind, there is "No Routine Traffic Stop", that is a fallacy! Great story ! My wife got in a bad accident in a winter storm here in Northern Nevada , and when Highway patrol got on the scene she Immediately Informed the Trooper that she Had a concealed Firearm , showed him her permit and the Trooper said that's fine you don't Draw I won't Draw , my Wife said Absolutely and continued on with the Accident and made sure she was OK. There Truly are some Great Law Enforcement Officers out there and yes there are some not so great out there just like All people in the World ! Nice Video Mr.GunsnGear.
