It’s interesting that in the 50s plastic was considered luxury and beauty, while now it’s considered to be cheap and garbage. Indispensable or disposable. The fact that so much of our environment is polluted by micro plastic waste probably did not help its image in the long run.

That would be so utterly different it would be almost impossible to imagine. It's easy to only think of plastic in terms of household products, but it is used so widely in so many critical industrial applications that lacking it would require an entire different understanding of technology.
One good example is Hydraulics. Hydraulic cylinders rely on non-metallic seals to function. Usually these are made from a synthetic rubber or plastic (You can use leather or rubber but they degrade very fast and don't last very long). If there was no plastic hydraulic systems would be much much rarer and only used in very specialized applications. This has significant knock on effects. One example of that would be in heavy duty construction equipment, without reliable hydraulics most construction equipment would operate like it did in the 1930s. This would mean that not only are big buildings rarer, but everyday buildings are more expensive to build and buy. A society where housing is even more ridiculously expensive than today would look very different to ours socially and politically.
And that's only one tiny aspect of this world. Cars and furniture would look radically different as they rely on hydraulic presses for manufacture. Airliners might not exist as large aircraft can't be controlled without cylinders to move the control surfaces and gear. Robots might not exist as we know them today. This one small element alone causes dramatic changes to the course of history.

I don't really think the house was there to show off a plastic house as much as it was to show off technology that would be popular in the future, whether it be in 1963 or 1986. It was almost like a worlds fair display in a big plastic flower shaped house. I mean they didn't get the execution right on some of it but they were showing you what would be commercially available in the coming years.

Currently watching this while eating my burger for dinner. I look around the kitchen and I see so many things that use plastics in either large or small quantities. My window frame is plastic, the fridge has lots of plastics used for panels and the interior walls, my microwave has a plastic fascia, my recycling bin is plastic, hell - even my steel and wooden bar stool has a few plastic end caps on it.
Plastics play a huge role in the modern household for a multitude of reasons. While they don’t make up the bulk of construction, they have their place. Honestly - PVC piping is a huge one that comes to mind.
It’s easy to forget sometimes, but compared to what our ancestors had: we absolutely do live in the early part of what would historically have been considered the technologically advanced future. I’m interested to see where it goes from here. We’ve been making leaps and bounds into things like AI in forms that would’ve been science fiction not so long ago.

Plastic housing is the future. It'll be cheap to create, especially if the process is automated, and we can churn them out quickly. With today's innovations with technology we can make them efficient and practical. AND there's more than enough plastic in landfills and the ocean to build thousands of modules without ever having to add "fresh" plastic. I think this will be ideal to make pod homes that have a limited footprint while pulling plastic from the trash.
