How Far Can Rich Ride On The Longest Day Of The Year? | Summer Solstice Mountain Bike Ride
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 27. 06. 2020
- It's tradition for cyclists to head out on an epic ride on the longest day of the year and see how far they can ride from sunrise to sunset. Given the current situation, Rich thought it best to stay a little closer to home. But that made it no less of a challenge! In true British fashion, the weather started damp and miserable, but gave way to clear skies as he rode laps of his local.

Unless I'm mistaken, Doddy had thus far gotten away without doing one of these epic rides. Another video opportunity?
Get entered for Strathpuffer next January Rich. 24hrs solo in the middle of winter in Scotland, so 17hrs of darkness!đ It's a lap of around 12k with 400m of climbing, as many times as you can! I did it in 2018, it was -10oC and covered in snow. I did 225k and 5280m of climbing. It's EPIC! #GMBN
Let's upvote this a lot... I want to see the GMBN crew there ;)
Crikey sounds savage but who knows đ€·ââïž

It's brilliant but brutal
That sounds amazing

My friend and I did the same thing back in 2007 in Ontario Canada. My bike at the time was a Santa Cruz Blur. We hooked as many trails together as we could and did 212 km (132 miles) in 16 hours. Elevation gain was 1775 meters (5823 feet). The loop started in Cambridge heading east before turning south down to Burlington and Hamilton then back up through Dundas, Brantford, Paris and back to Cambridge. I was content to let that stand as my personal best and never tried it again. What a ride! Everyone should do this at least once.
Hopefully you could do this next year in Northern Europe or even in Lapland and do 24h ride. It's bright as day for whole 24h.
I think I'm supposed to live in lapland. My sleeping pattern is wayyyy screwed up n a normal day for me is 48 hours with 36 hours awake and 12 hours sleeping lol.
@@ArthurMac15 sounds just like normal swedish sleeping patterns.. you will fit right in.. unless you get a job..
âmore is moreâ ... yep, sounds about right!
Big shoutout to the cameraman for riding along and filming all day WITH a backpack!!!
On an Ebike 8-)
This is so awesome! Good for you Richard, you SHOULD be very proud of yourself for not quitting!
Thumbnail - How far can rich ride on the longest day of the year
Me - I think along way
Correct!
Well done Rich, great achievement
Nicely done! Bakewell slices. I remember visiting my Grandfather in Liverpool as a child, and he would always buy Bakewell Tarts at M&S. Fabulous treat!
My local shop does bakewell flapjacks, perfect for a ride!!
These 100 - 200 km rides are the real drug I need right now (':
Good effort Rich. Enjoyed this video. More like this please!
Epic work Rich, huge grats to you. Definitely my favourite video of yours so far!
What an effort. Great job Rich. đđ€
Anyone who uses CZcams to find maintenance tutorials when something goes wrong on the road? đ
The Neuron is such a great and versatile bike. I ride almost everything from long, epic 150 kilometer rides to shredding the bikepark, and it keeps up with the bikes tailor-made for that specific riding style.
Hi guys. I am a âmatureâ cyclist and am expanding into mountain biking after decades of road cycling and even triathlons. Iâve been watching your channel to try and get up to speed, but I still feel lost. it is like knowing Spanish and watching an Italian movie-you almost understand, but you know that there are critical details you donât catch. Any chance you could do a show on âconverting?â Topics could be things as simple as âthe tools you need and probably donât haveâ, âwhat is different about maintenance,â. âUnderstanding suspension and how and why to adjust it,â âdo you need pads?â, âdo you need a new helmet?â âGoggles or sunglasses?â âWhat kind of rides are realistic (as from the ads you would expect to go straight up a 16% rock scree at 20 miles per hour all dayâ. Iâm sure that many of these elements already exist (I know that at least some of them do)-but it would be neat to see a compilation in one place.
Great effort Richđ,think I'll keep sticking with my 10-15km rides thanksđ. You and the GMBN crew need to suss out the Munda Biddi Trail here in Perth,Western Australia- it 1000km longđ
Respect for this achievement, wow!
3:42 they must have gone for a... muddy ride
A fab video - well done Rich - and really glad you're on GMBN, you really add something to the channel :)
Thanks Rich , inspired me to find some routes around the mendip hills , when it's not raining like mad that is. Lived there for 20+ years and I've never ridden in some of those places.
Will take me a lot longer on my kona stinky though.
it'll build endurance though!
Nice one Rich. Well done.
Richard: âtouch wood!â
Also Richard: *touches his head!*
đđ
Good effort rich!! Great video, gives us a good idea of what rich is like too as itâs hard to tell from hack videos etc but understand content must have been difficult to make over lockdown. Rich seems a top fella!
Nicely done...Congratulations on a great ride!
Epic ride Rich. Looks like wonderful environment to crunch it! đŠđ”ââïž
What a coo1 dad!
Rich is a fantastic presenter! Great video!
Thanks for putting in the effort where I couldnât be arsed
Well done Rich, that was an heck of a long ride. But hey having your Dad bringing you delicious food, it really doesn't get better than that. And I bet tomorrow you might be a bit sore, but still looking forward for the next bike ride already :D.
Well done Rich! Great job!
Great vid! I did a long ride a couple of days ago overnight and kept going for 16 hours with 6 hours of darkness. I knocked off 121km and 3137m of climb taking in a Munro. Itâs definitely all about keeping fed and hydrated. The toughest thing Iâve ever done so far!
Good effort!!
Well done Rich. Great vid
That's quite the accomplishment considering your off road on a heavy bike. Much easier on a road bike. Congratulations!
Great stuff!!
Awesome achievement Rich đ
I'm building myself up to tackle the South Downs Way again managed 76miles before it has to retire due mechanical fault.
Going to try it in July I think maybe in my birthday đ
Great stuff #GMBN đđđ
Great job sir !
Great video, really nice details explained! It would be really nice to have a resume table with the data...
Hope to see you in petzen!đ
Great push for the end brother
The bacon and egg rolls is the best part haha
Great video. I used to live in Bristol and often went hiking in the Mendips; looks like a beautiful route. đ One suggestion: it would be interesting to see stats for this ride, like calories consumed/burned, average speed etc.
Rich, you can pack my lunch anyday! food choice was all top level!
I have the same alarm and I swear you caused my brain to go haywire and wonder if I was about to wake up from some rediculously realistic dream.
I live like five minutes away from the mendips why wasn't i there
So do I, certainly hope this trail is uploaded to google maps, would love to follow this trail
If you want to see the route guys itâs in the descriptionđ€
Well done rich, that looks epic. But letâs all remember to congratulate the guy who filmed him, also carrying camera gear.
Hats off dude that was an epic ride đ€đŒ
Cheers!
Good vid đđ»đđ»
Very good. It's great.đ”
Sounds fun!
Type 2 fun!
Great effort. Definitely inspired me to do something like that next year. Is there anything youâd change on the Canyon after riding it for 16 hours?
Attached GoPro to forkđ
Lol, I read this before watching, and thought cool, some footage from his suspension fork đđł
Rupert Wenn same đ
Good performance MAn :)
120 off road. Respect.
It's amazing to do something for 16h and only get 16 minutes out of it, dedication
Can we get a vlog to see how he is going the next couple of days and see what recovery is like?
I thought that was my alarm going off . LoL
Iâm wore out from watching!đ
I really wanted to do this same thing but I had a race that day. i will probably do a really long ride after the training season
3:41 Kate Kurtney new SPDs? So much more fans cross-country will have with such a boots
My longest ride was 8hrs, it was 9-5. Was tons of fun with friends and the time past so quickly.
Hi gmbn!
It would be cool to livestream from a gopro a 24h ride
Just watched it
You have just rode around my local trail spot
So your Dad watched you do this and thought.......... Yeah, I'll have some of that!
Hi, Iâm richaaaaaaard đ
and that's why fathers day exists :)
next year. do both of them in sweden =)
love these vids, but the ads are starting to drive me crazy :( .... anyway, great ride Rich
is it me or does the bike look really small and mostly short for Rich even though it's an L ?
I like him go on and stay
Further if somewhere flatter than mendips!
All day miles, i wouldve used a hardtail. but i see some of that terrain is a little rough.
Any body noticed that he went on a 16 hour ride and the video is 16 minutes lol
And your on 16 likes. đđ
@@kaicolbert6099 haha
RichARD is the best presenter. Can't change my mind.
Teddy Parker Thanks dude
I canât imagine passing multiple service intervals in one ride though, thatâs nuts.
Amazing ride. 20x around the loop. About 8 mph the whole time, including breaks for tea. Iâm a beginning rider in Arizona, I go about 4 mph all in, without stopping for snacks. I've made some videos on my channel of trails in the red rock heaven of Sedona. Cheers!!!
good
How tall is Rich? Might be looking into a Neuron myself, interesting to see his sizing
what is up GMBN
Had my first proper day out on my bike and I have only gone and ripped my mech off đą. So that's a new mech, mech hanger and cables. Still it was worth every penny I had a blast đ„đ€đ»
Bad luck, how did you do that? Snag a rock or a root?
@@mattimeo117 yer a root it didn't rip it off just sent me into my headset. I was able carry on my ride with a lot of use of the barrel adjuster. Where there's a will? rightđ
I needed 3 burgers and 2 liters of cola per 100km))
The part I hate the most about going for any long ride is waking up super early. Who else feels the same?
Best mtb bike for beginners .
Do Madrid-Lisboa
You're.....nice vid
Ugh why didn't I think of doing a summer solstice ride? I'll try a winter solstice one instead, then
Great vid next time you should do it for a charity or something might give you an extra push and I'm sure the subscribers would be happy to donate
11:00 is this a pre dropped scran cache?
geez, riding in the UK, man that weather never gets better, yuck. Respect for the long ride though.
It has it's ups and downs!
Thatâs rowberrow
Rich, are those Barzo's the 2.25 or 2.35? And what tire pressures did you run for these mixed conditions?
Regards
Mathias Vous There 2.25 f+r and I ran 25 front and 28 psi rear no inserts đ
hello, that was Herculean effort! got a link to the Strava activity or is this all via Komoot?
All on Komoot! Here's the route gmbn.eu/SolsticeRoute
Hi Iâm getting a Trek Remedy tomorrow
Yeeguayo 47 luck u Iâm getting a trek fuel ex 5 next week
@@Swainmtb1 lucky im getting a calibre two cubed soon

Hah I got a carbon specialized enduro last week
POV: You're hungry at midnight watching Rich eat a lot of snacks /:
200 clicks!!!! Super effort... Iâm not sure I trust you any more as you could be a darpa cyborg âșïž If you didnât eat so much yummy stuff.
Next year, try a GCN vs. GMBN vs. GTN vs. EMBN.
I thought this was an Apple commercial for a seconds
