This is the boys long jump from the 2019 CIF-ss (Southern Section) Masters meet held at El Camino College in Torrance, CA on May 18. The Masters meet brings together the top athletes from all four CIF-ss divisions in competition to determine qualifiers for the CIF state track & field championships meet.

The high school long jump record in Arkansas was set in 1933 by a guy named James Whipple. He jumped 24' 6", but the officials ruled it an illegal jump because the END of the pit was only 24'. So they gave him a distance of 24'. He later injured his foot in a jump and ended up having his leg amputated and died at age 21.
I also was a long jumper and jumped over 21 feet as a 9th Grader. It didn't count as a record because it wasn't in a meet and I wasn't enrolled in track at the time. I was just playing around in my school clothes after lunch one day at the field. After jumping, someone measured it and ran to get the coach. He asked me if I did that and then if I would like to run track.
