2023/2024 NSTF-South32 Awards

The NSTF Awards is the flagship project of the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF), in partnership with co-branding sponsor, South32.
The NSTF-South32 Awards, known as the ‘Science Oscars of South Africa’ honour and celebrate outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology (SET) and innovation. The awards encourage and reward excellence in:
• Scientific research
• Management of SET and innovation
• Engineering research capacity development
• Water solutions
• The Green Economy
• Data for research
• Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) contributions to SET and innovation, including technology transfer and education
• Science communication
• Innovations
• 4IR technologies
• Clinician-Scientists
• Science diplomacy
The NSTF Awards were established in 1998. The Awards are the largest SET and innovation awards in South Africa and have grown to be the most prestigious public SET and innovation awards in South Africa. The previous award winners are widely recognised as worthy recipients.
The Awards are endorsed by the Ministry and the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI); and have been supported since inception by the Department. The Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation is the official patron of the NSTF-South32 Awards.
The NSTF will continue with the hybrid format of the awards gala event, with two gala dinners taking place simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg while broadcasting live to an online audience from both cities on CZcams.
The date scheduled for the dinners and live broadcast is Thursday, 11 July 2024. The gala dinners in Cape Town and Johannesburg will host the finalists and the students selected for the Brilliants Programme in their respective cities, as well as the sponsors and VIP guests.
The rest of the science, engineering and technology (SET) community and the public will be able to watch the event live from the comfort of their homes here on CZcams.
The 2024 theme is the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in South Africa, and a special theme award will be made for an outstanding contribution in this regard.
