Daiva is able to enter Shiva when he is physically, psychologically and mentally broken - and when Daiva takes over, the entire audience becomes one with the villagers watching the spectacle - Someone humbly offers a bag of puffed rice which Daiva eats with so much relish and even distributes to everyone. There is humourous side of Daiva too as he plays dead when tall man in black tries to kill him but he ultimately shows everyone the truth of everything. One can easily be moved to tears seeing how much our greed, selfishness and lust hurt God. When Guruva was murdered, Shiva could see Panjurli Daiva crying uncontrollably. The Daiva’s final message to Murali and the villagers is that the forest, birds, animals and the humans are all his children and he is entrusting these to them. If they are able to take care of each other, that will make him most happy. This is the reckoning we need today but don’t deserve.

For the disappearance part, I understood it as once daiva protects people from any encroachment he takes the person with him. Either he doesn't let humans use his power more than that or the person is elevated to something beyond the human realm and gets a higher place.

The Daiva becomes one with them.
For Hindus, the primary spiritual objective is to liberate our souls from physical constraints via the path of enlightenment, and rejoin the essence of our Supreme Deities - Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva.
That is what is represented by the vanishing - the person's soul has been granted Moksha, and now they are one with the Ultimate Reality.

When Shiva's brother Does, we see The Daiva Crying, it shows the fact that Even god's cry when someone lays harm on their worshipers. Also in the end when the Daiva calls murali and puts his and other people's hands in his chest and smiles, it's signifies that even God needs our love as much we need his love. The Movie shows a vulnerable side of God which really makes this movie unique and makes the Daiva more relatable.

    Sir ,
    1)
Murli's intentions were wrong in the beginning . He is overpowered by ego which his boss keeps telling him . Murli undergoes a transformation due to tree faill and gun misfires incidents . He realises there is something which wants him not to go against Shiva .
    2) Shiva does not die . He falls unconscious after his head hits the gram dev stone which has erupted from the trench dug by forest dept and blood flows from his head. In this scene he first becomes guliga ( ferocious , unforgiving punisher ) devata and destroys the enemies . Then there is a gap of few months , he gets married and then he continues the tradition of boota kola via Panjurli . When he plays Panjurli you can see his wife bearing mangalsutra . He then gets call from his father's voice from the jungle . He immediately recongnises his father's voice and runs into the jungle to meet his father . You cal also notice his mother and wife worried at this time . This is a moment of goosebumps when his father panjurli is smilling and son panjurli is bowing to him . They both disappear probably go to dev lok . This is how a humans become a devata in indian philosophy .
    3) Sir , lord Shiva is not destroyer . In the cosmos he is responsible for dissolution of the universe and not destruction . The character Shiva is not representing qualities of Lord Shiva in the first half . The character Shiva is playing notorious , doing normal and negative things , running away from Varaha and his destiny which keeps appearing in his dreams .

Being born in the forest region of karavali ( coastal Karnataka) i feel so blessed. We literally live in the middle of the forest, and we have experienced the divine power of dhaivas (demigods), we believe that dhaivas control the negative energy in the forest. If you really acknowledge the forest, you can experience the divine energy, mostly during noons and late nights there's a belief that dhaivas patrol some regions of the forest.. hombale(arecanut flower) and gejje (anklet) are their favourites, and for dhaiva aaradhane the above both are must, it's believed that because of the fragrance of hombale the dhaiva enters human body. It is so beautiful, the tradition. The meaning of kantara is forest, the mystery of forest.

You missed 2-3 points while breaking down this movie:
    1. The Destiny which drags complete movie from the beginning as Destiny wants Shiva to do Bhoota Kola that's why he get flashes about his past and the place where his father disappeared, his intuition tells him many times through the Varah Roopam (Wild Boar) as he is the only man who see Wild boar in the forest.
When Gurua says to Saheb: Sab apko ki sahi krna hoga, as Gurua knew Shiva will transform into Deva after when saheb will show his original face and demand for land.
    2. Everytime when Siva hunts and eats pork he got nightmares, got afraid and gets fever. Suar (Wild Boar) represent Varah avtar that's why Shiva's mother restrict him eating pork.
    3. If you observed Shiva, his friends and Saheb are the only people in the village who eat pork,
at the beginning when Murli introduced first, Even he refuses to eat pork saying today is thurday and I don't eat maas. which indicates he understand rituals and somehow have soft place for devas too.

Kantaara means the 'Forest with Mystical powers' it seems to be like a portal between two parallel universes where Panjurli Daiva travels to the other side.
There are three levels of Existence 1. Super-Human Level (Daiva level)
    2. Human Level
    3. Sub-human Level (Animals etc)
I searched about Panjurli & astonishingly, this Wild Boar Spirit Daiva is in fact worshipped in reality too. Next emerging genre is Mystical experience expression.

Unfortunately I was checking for the number of seats booked as people rarely knew about the film. Normally shows get cancelled in my town if a minimum of 20-25 people are not there. So I had booked tickets hoping that minimum people will come. The moment I reach theatre there is a housefull board & I was shocked, it was all walk in audience. Cut to the movie, when Shiva gets a glimpse of his father for the first time in the jungle I jumped out of my seat as I literally got goosebumps & I knew instantly that I was in for a treat. The long climax is probably the best I've seen in a lifetime. Rishab Shetty has delivered a performance for the ages & I've seen many people go and watch Kantara 2 times or more but In my case I just don't want to go again and watch it as I believe this was a once in a lifetime experience film. Out of nowhere this film came and people talked about it on the social media and I was shocked at how many people came to watch it in my hometown. This might be the selfish cinema romantic of me speaking, But I just want to remember the surprise I got in the theatre and not ruin it by going again as it would not be the same experience.

My take on the climax about the father and the son meeting up is that the Protagonist dies and becomes a Demi-God and disappears into the forest and gangs up with other Demi-Gods to continue protecting the forest.
A less publicised fact is the concept of "Devara Kadu"(literally God's Forest), in the neighbouring district of Mangalore i.e. Kodagu. Even to this day, no one is supposed to enter these spots of the jungles. There is fear that anyone who enters it will fall into bad times. What a beautiful idea to protect the forest!

Exactly. I am from Kodagu (Coorg). We have devara kad (sacred forest), We are followers Lord Mahadeva(Shiva) and we have Kolla kattuva festival. And Demi God going to the forest is called as Bana ke (vana, in kannada) houguvdu. We are not allowed to venture into the sacred forest. I was always intrigued by what does Deva (Demi God) does in the forest. The villagers are alighted about this action by a gun shot. And when the God returns back to the temple after an hour, one more gun shot makes people aware that the action of going to bana is over. The community who does this performance are called as malaya. They have a language which is a mixture of Kannada, Malayalam and Tulu.
Most of the words used are from my mother tongue, that is Kodava. We are the ethnic, linguistic people of Kodagu (Coorg).
So looks like this Boota aradhene, is a culture followed not just by people from South Canara, but also for North Malabar and Coorg.
      Thanks for your time 🙏

Here, we call our demigods, "devta", every single clan or "kul" has their own protective devta, and we go to them whenever we make any big decisions in our lives. On certain occasions, different devtas from clans meet, dance and bless their devotees, while sitting on their palkis. Not to mention, living right in his kingdom, we are all ardent Shiva devotees.

Very nicely narrated brother - just few things :1. Forest officer Murali is Vishnu who is protector & Shiva is known for Laya(end)2. Daiva(Panjurli) to be possessed requires a disciplined godly personality(like his brother Guruva) whereas Shiva is very indisciplined throughout his tenure, hence Panjurli cannot come on Shiva who is impure. 3. In our culture at Tulunadu( undivided Dakshina Kannada),we believe Daiva Panjurli can extend ayusha( life) of a person by 12 years as well as cut short life by 12 years - hence Panjurli comes and gives extension to Shiva in the form where Guliga possesses him 4. The last scene is where he continues to be good and become Daiva narthaka of Panjurli & disappears( Maaya) like his father and you can see his friend narrating story to the kid 6. The sword dropped( Shasthra Tyaga) by king is seen to Guliga through his divine power. Go back to your roots and love the family & enjoy the rich heritage in different forms, unify with nature where we belong to 🙏

For others this is a movie. But for we native mangaloreans this is lifeline of our life. We cannot imagine a life without 'Bhutha Kola'.
Divine power such a beautifully picturised i could not hold my tears several times , because we believe Panjurli and Guliga every day protect us. Our part of the world never seen any natural calamity for centuries. We believe we protected by these demigods.
This movie picturised with extreme devotion. The one acre area of the film set was treated like temple , no one used wear shoes or sandals. No one used to eat non veg food or drink alcohol. During entire shooting period director hero Rishab Shetty never visited his family. When you deliver the things with such an extreme devotion , the result is 'KANTHARA' . Success of Kanthara is result of divine power. May this divine power protect our Bharath and entire humanity.

I am from Kanyakumari and I very much enjoyed this movie. The only question I had in mind is how can people from the north enjoy this movie. The simple reason is because we have heard bits and pieces of the story line here and there in our everyday life in the south. The diety descending on to the person and having a very intimate relationship with the person is something of everyday lore in the south. In fact what everyone so in the last 15 minutes of the movie and here and there in middle of the movie is something that most people who have lived in any small village in the south would have seen as a yearly or by annual ritual. Looking at the comments I am surprised and Amazed as to how much the Hindi speaking people or also able to resonate with the spirit of the movie. And I totally believe it is because how Rishabh has taken this movie and lived this movie. Hats off....

In climax ,when shiva is almost died and in sudden guliga daiva possess him and fights . Later after few days shiva performs kola, and sudden he runs to the forest and disappears, beacuse the guliga daiva has done what needed by villagers (to protect the village). This made me feel like cliche breaking scene. Because in some fantasy movies , they shows when hero almost dies ,he posses by some spirit, and fight with villains. And later on hero lives a healthy life. But This was awesome🔥
