- This tutorial will show you how to achieve a floral / faded distressed affect on wood - using napkins and decoupage. This creates a lovely affect that can be used on most pieces of furniture.
For this project you will need:
Floral napkins (mine are from eBay)
Outdoor clear varnish (in matt)
Mod podge (in matt)
Handheld sander
Clingfilm (optional)

Oh, that is GORGEOUS!
I love that worn, faded look.
Definitely filing this one away for after I move.
Thank you for sharing this creative idea.
Nice one from the most fascinating maker on CZcams!👏👏👏
Just lovely! I have some gorgeous paper table runners...I think I can do this!! Love your singing! Thank you so much!
Thanks! I struggle with mod podge constantly....this is like doing the opposite and embracing the wrinkles and creases! I love it so much and 100% agree...I do rustic everything to make the mistakes more "authentic". :) Thanks again!
LOVE this!! I just found some wonderful napkins today for another project and now this is going on my to do list! Fab table!!
It turned out so beautiful! Such a simple project. I’m doing this! Love your music as well! 😊
Stunning. I can see my class doing this project and giving back to the school. I like it. Easy for kids and fun to use for a long time.
Needing to decoupage tv tray tops and your video was just the ticket I needed. Thanks for sharing. Great voice!

That turned out lovely Jodie May
That's great Christina! oh the market sounds lovely ... enjoy! x
Somehow your channel found me, I found this method rather interesting-- I will give this a try...
Adorable. Brilliant.
This is great!!
would have liked to have seen the sanding process.
result was exquisite x
I wish I'd filmed it too but I didn't have my camera stand! I tried filming as I sanded and it looked like I was on a rollercoaster ;-)
Lovely!
Please may I know which glue you have used. Is it same the mod pogde
I have a low, round top sewing table in front of me, the middle opens to stash projects. I have painted the base and the wood top has been a pain as I only want to do the top once and like it always. what have I been looking at? those very same napkins that I have in my stash, only difference mine have a pale aqua back ground 😀
I really want to try this technique but I do have one question. Have you painted the wood before the napkins go on? I plan to use old pallet wood but think it might at least need a wash of white so the napkins show up. Am I right? Thanks for sharing and I love your table top.
Ugh I can NEVER find pretty napkins here in the us ...only solid colors
By the way I just checked your channel out and you're amazing ...oils, homemade ideas etc love it You have a new subscriber
Just today I found very pretty napkins in Dollar Tree of all places! I was NOT expecting that at all! And they're actually tasteful! However, it was a very large Dollar Tree and from what I gather they are not all created equal! Good luck!
Tuesday Morning is a goldmine for gorgeous napkins.
Good job !! You might have done a black wash over the top before varnishing to emphasize and antique the cracks.
Otherwise looks great on top of that pit !!
I have exactly the same napkins as these squirrelled away in my art room ( more like second bedroom that looks like something off one of those hoarding show on tv .😳 l ol.I.just love Ralphy 🐕 he looks virtually identical to my much loved and greatly missed Jack.Russell ' Tom' who was to be my.only dog ever when I was a teen in the early 89' s and tragically we lost him when he was just 4 yrs old during a Parvo Virus epidemic in dogs just 2 weeks after his yearly booster .My mum is 91 & never cries until we talk about our dog ..Give Ralphy a huge hug from us :) me
BTW I see you made this video 2 years ago ,mind me asking ,how did the napkins& Mod Podge do after exposure to a British summer??? I have over the years tried making a few off the wall pieces for the garden and tried no yellowing matte UK yatch varnish & my hand painted piece still went rather yellowish and a sort of ' crazed' effect happened which I.love but not the yellowing.as
Hi Sophie, sorry for such late reply, I never see these! So sorry to hear about Tom :-( that's heartbreaking. The table is still going strong after being kept outside for 4 great British summers and winters! it's all thanks to the varnish I think :-)
That bird on the edge, with the distressed wood...lovely! 💙
Lovely
What kind of glue dearest? Beautiful song beautiful voice
What kindof varnish? Nice job
haha such a character. Table looks beautiful! Hope Ralphy got to stand on it for a second? (8
Do you think this would work with parchment style paper?
Cute!
I want to ask.after covering the table.with mod podge at the end.does it seal the table good enough that later the table can be cleaned and dusted with a damp cloth or any cleaning spray??
Hi, the table was sealed with exterior/outdoor varnish to give it a good layer of protection, I would advise at least 2 coats if it will be outdoors, mod podge wouldn't be enough x
What kind of glue
Love it 🇳🇱
How long did you wait to sand?
so beautiful! can i use pva glue? x
Thanks! Yes you can. Mod Podge is essentially PVA glue with water added so if your PVA is fairly thick I'd suggest adding a little water to make it thinner and easier to use.
great ;) but how to make it without the lines between the napkins? because I don't like it.
Vyola 777 tear the edges of the napkins.
Brilliant. I’m going to try this on my daughters old drawers. Do you have to use napkins?
No you can use anything really ... comics look great on kids furniture HOWEVER you can't sand them to get that worn look ... that only works with napkins. If you google 'comic decoupage furniture' you'll see what I mean. With things like that you just glue them on direct and then varnish. Good luck!
A Handmade Cottage thanks :)
Hi dear do you have the link of the napkins pls? I love them
Yes here you go! ;-) www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-Single-Vintage-Table-Paper-Napkins-for-Decoupage-CRAFT-Love-Lunch/171770111416?hash=item27fe4be5b8:g:rBkAAOSwtJZXWwsw
awesome sauce
I would love to try this on my furniture, but will you please explain the sanding process once more please? Did you have one layer of mod podge over the napkins before you sanded? Did you use your handheld sander on the napkin as well as the edges at the same time? Just trying to get the same look that you got. Thanks!
Yes that's right. Once your final layer of mod podge is completely dry, sand the whole thing until it's completely smooth and your happy with the finish. Just make sure you only use the very top layer of the napkin with this project - otherwise when you sand, you'll sand off the pretty top layer to reveal the plain white layer underneath!
Sounds good. I'll give it a try. Thanks again!
I love the table. By the way who sings this song?
I do Patty :-) my artist name is Jodie May too.
I love this video! Very nice...😀❤️👍🏼 NEW SUBIE 04/17/19
How beautiful!. What type of glue did you use?
Mod Podge! ;-)
If you don't have cling film a sandwich bag works too x
is that you singing at the end?
by the way, I love how it turned out.
Hi Olive. Yes it is me singing :-) that's a song from my last release. Glad you liked the table!
A Handmade Cottage I like your singing style. when will your music be available?
Ah thanks Olive. Probably toward the end of the summer I hope, there's more videos / songs on my music channel czcams.com/users/Jodiemaymusic x
A Handmade Cottage - I guessed that might be you singing! I thought, "Wow, her end music is really great. I wonder how she got permission to use that." Then it dawned on me it was probably one of your songs! Lovely!
VerY beauTifUl Your decOuPaGE aNd YouR sOng!!! Amazing vOice !!!!
Wow😊😊😊
Would this method work with scrapbook paper instead of napkins?
Hello! Sorry I missed this message. You probably found the answer by now but just in case, no I don't think so. The napkin is so thin it seeps into the wood. I don't think it would work with scrapbook paper.
😍
lol @ Ralphy not helping...
Wouldn’t mind this on my floor!
Ooh good idea!
Pretty napkins tho
Oh, poor Ralphe, he wants to help!
😍🌹
Didnt show anything
Bravo hooll ok.ok.🇧🇷🇧🇷🌻🌻🌻🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Decopage isnt supposed to be all wrinkled
The end result was rustic, aged and faded, just like she wanted.
She wasn't trying for smooth and perfect. I LOVE the way it turned out!❤
But perhaps you can post a video showing how you think it should be done.👍🏻😁
You skipped some important parts, for those new in decoupage we don't learn much from you. Beautiful singing voice
I love what you do and it is so pretty, but please stop calling it Mog Podge. It is Mod Podge!!!!!
Hahahaha! That tickled me. I didn't realise I did! I don't usually :-)
can you just hand sand please? dont hae a machine!
