@@Mario2900 no bro , it's a good video! , I'm happy that you gave us your own opinions, you have to be brave to do something like that , I hate this fucking game too , and I'm just happy that I'm not the only one who feels like that :)
I really want to like this game because of how much potential it has, which is why I'm in support of a full on remake to fix all of its flaws in a modern format. Sadly though this is Sonic Team, which means any remake would possibly be somehow made wayyyy worse.
Adventure 2 is my favourite Sonic game. So I wouldn't be surprised if I am expected to "drill claw" up your spine or something. But I admit, though, our opinions exist on two COMPLETE different spectrum, this video was constructed well. It's always interesting to see different perspectives. Nice work.
When i was a kid (around 2014) i remember hearing people saying SA2 was soooo good, i am a Sonic fan since i am a kid, so when i finally got to play SA2 like 2 years ago, i remember i was soooo excited cause i thought i was about to play the best Sonic game I got dissapointed
I think this game is just overloved and very overrated same with the classics so don’t give me wrong I do like the venture gas but I just think sonic fans need to give them newer games a chance
@@Krazycid245 Classic and Adventure games are so much better than whatever bullshit they pull off these days, it's not that they're overloved or overrated they're worthy of their praise because of how much groundbreaking shit you can do with pinball physics and Sonic's versatile moveset like in Sonic 3&k or SA2 in combination with the level design. Whatever the guy reviewing this video is saying is absolute misinformation and has no idea what he's talking about specially when he calls the speed stages automated, woah, I guess you mistook modern crap sonic gameplay with SA2, and it doesn't help how trash he is at playing the game so that says a lot already, people like this are the reason why Sonic games these days are a failure and why the franchise is seen as such a joke, and the fact that sonic fans tend to dunk on the good games with extremely superficial arguments or nonsense already tells you that the people in this fanbase don't understand the series.
@@Krazycid245we gave the new games a chance too many chances in fact, i am lucky frontiers was good, if it wasn't i would have been done, tired of getting garbage like forces
I heard so much good about this game and as a longtime Sonic fan I wanted to try it out so I finally did and it was very disappointing. I kinda actually like the story and the soundtrack but the gameplay just ruins it for me, Sonic feels slow at top speed and he is so sensitive to control, just like SA1 the homing attack works only half the time and I die a lot because of it. Most of the enemies rely on cheap gimmicks to hurt the player and you always have to stop and look at your surroundings very carefully and slowly as Sonic to the point where it's not even fun or you could just move forward at a reasonable pace and die by something the god awful camera doesnt show you.
@negroheroSonic adventure is better, its more fun to choose characters, and not being forced to play with every character withouth choosing, and Sonic adventure is more fun because of this, and because of the open world, its very good to hunt chao eggs and explore the city.
I expected this game to be great after i heard everyone on the internet say it is. Since my first time trying SA2 out, i’ve never liked it. Overrated garbage lmao Hi, it’s me from two years later now. SA2 is actually pretty good
@@RandomCarfromNFS what does it have to do with tedious treasure hunt and mecha sections, which are also inevitable? I REALLY would like to git gud as sonic, but the game just doesn't let me do this ..also why would devs make all special moves work by pressing one same action button?
@@reallyman6502 not denying that there aren't any issues with sa 2 but if you take your time, memorise the locations and master the controls treasure hunting is quite fun also if you did so they are even shorter than some of speed stages as for the mechs they really aren't that slow you can easily gain momentum while running straight and chain a lot of attacks to get an a rank the only downsides to them is loosing all momentum while climbing or turning and some cheap enemy placements but for 80% of the time they work the game totally allows you to skip some parts by using hover and perform bigger combos while going fast
I think I have an answer to the problems with the story, at least in regards to Shadow. He was never originally supposed to survive this game. He was never going to appear after this, so they didn’t really bother fleshing him out. This becomes clear in the two games after: Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog. Look this game is outdated but the least you could to is respect the fact that it holds a special place in the fans’ hearts. It’s a reminder of a time when Sonic was more that decent or mediocre. Some have actually said that the story is one of the darker stories in the franchise. We’re talking the murder of Maria, the execution of Gerald by firing squad, and a world ending plot created by Gerald. Look I do see where you are coming from, I do. But at the end of the day, compared to what we’ve had in recent games, there’s a reason this game his held in high regard. Sonic Adventure felt more like an experiment. This game is a more fleshed out version. You’re allowed to have an opinion, I won’t hate you for that. But you start disrespecting the people who love this game, flaws and all, that’s when I start having a problem. And keep in mind, the people who hold it on a pedestal are the ones who played it back in the day. Don’t judge how a game was back then based off how games are now. You start doing that, and you’re entire review is completely invalid in my book. Oh and bear in mind, this coming from someone who started playing Sonic games in 2013 and my first exposure was the Classic Collection. Just so you know where I’m coming from
People like you say this still holds up today yet you say not to compare it to new games. The story in my opinion is one of the best in the series and i think the graphics look great. My problem lies with the gameplay. For starters you can’t spindash without doing a summersult. The camera often bugs out and the homing attack does not lock on well. This game has so many issues and i find it funny how people act like it’s a masterpiece.
@@sonicgenesisgbaisgood9134 you can’t compare it because they were working with the limitations of the time. Plus I never said it was a masterpiece. I’ve experienced the bugs first hand. But Super Mario 64 came out before this yet people still think it’s a masterpiece despite having many of the same camera bugs. And yes I have played it
Sa2 sucks imo. The non sonic levels are so boring and annoying. The only thing I like is the introduction and back story of shadow. Compared to heroes, the music mid and the the levels are slow.
I get people have their own preferences in Sonic games, but saying that THIS game is the objective best game is so funny to me. This dated, poorly acted, poorly translated, waste of space this game was the absolute WORST Sonic game I have ever played so far. The speed stages were fun, but everything else is either boring or borderline trash. The story is conceptually great, but feels undercooked. The Sonic cast are at least in character, but these actors don’t really help a lot due to the adventure cast being my least favorite of the series. I couldn’t even make it past Cannon Core before I gave up
Sonic damn near feels like a side character in his own game, you barely play as Sonic. Playing as Knuckles and Tails are cool but it’s like the developers were being lazy by adding these stages because more sonic levels mean more creative design why because sonic levels are bigger and longer to flesh out the speed.
I think the speed stages are fun, the controls give a nice skill ceiling.. but this game isn't the best for a newcomer to just pick up n play. I honestly rather the classic games, or Unleashed, Gens. Lotta style and cool stuff in SA2 though.
I wouldn't say it's overrated in general, it has always been a divisive game and that became more clear in the last decade It's definetely overrated by it's fans though, i find it annoying when i express my dislike of the game and some people say im sheep minded, that im simply doing it because of ProJared or the GameGrumps
It’s okay if you dislike the game and I don’t think you were blinded by ProJared’s bad review of the game but I wouldn’t call it one of the worst games ever.
I didn't even know who the hell projared was until he groomed some kid or something like that and to this day I don't know anything about gamegrumps or what videos they make. As some who grew up on SA2 it is no doubt incredibly overrated.
i rate this game like a 5/10. The way I judge games is more objective over general. what’s good about it is REALLY good, but what’s bad about it is really bad. I dread the controls and overall buggy state of the game. Everything is glitchy, on top of controls doing what they want to do and not what you want to do. I don’t know what idiot at sega decided to assign 90% of the movements to one button, when a controller has numbers of buttons to use. so rather than just simply pressing Y to light dash how I want to, i have to puts around with the B button and stand at just the right pixel to do it, or else it’s a somersault. Which gets EXTREMELY frustrating especially on stages like Final Rush or Crazy Gadget where you need to light dash to progress through. 2. Challenge in video games is a pretty subjective thing to talk about, as some people dread challenge and want games to be easy, vise versa. Me personally I’m a bit mixed about it. Sometimes I like challenge and like how it rewards you but the challenge in SA2 just ain’t it. (I’m talking about 100% completion btw, not casual) it seems to have a very cheap and unfun sense of challenge. It wants you to suffer, it wants to make your life hell. It gives you the feeling that you’re just never improving and have to rely on luck just to A rank a few of the missions. And this is coming from someone who got 180 emblems, so call me a “garbage player” or “whiny” if you will. I don’t expect many to agree with what I said, but whether you do or don’t, you can let me know IF YOU WANT, but if it’s attacking my sentiment, it’s being ignored. Personally though I’ve always been more of a Sonic Heroes / SA(DX) guy.
Honestly you're right. SA2 have good sides (personally it's bosses, story even if it's a bit wacky sometimes, and races even if it's a bit wacky too). But bad sides of this game just ruins everything. Knuckles levels are a big regression compared to SA1, last levels are just boring, the camera is BAD (but really, bad!), controls are bad too,... This game is definitely overrated because of nostalgia. It's not the worst game, but it's far to be a masterpiece in terms of gameplay
Whether or not Sonic fans like to admit it, this game fails to improve upon the mistakes made in SA1. The gameplay can be fun but its shining moments always feel like they're cut too short and we get thrown into a loop of lackluster mech and treasure hunting stages that only serve to make us want more of the Sonic / Shadow stages. Even then the Sonic / Shadow stages only seem to get worse as the game progresses as the increase in difficulty seems to stem from the inclusion of gimmicky obstacles and poor handling.
I just finished sonic adventure and absolutely loved it so I immediately jumped to adventure 2 and my biggest issue is the controls and the camera like Jesus christ crazy gadget is a nightmare to play through
Something to point out is that all games need linearity. All games also need openness. The key is finding the balance. This balance does vary from person to person, but that's okay.
I don't wanna shoot and hunt in sonic games Sa1 mostly avoided this because all 6 characters mostly played somewhat similar even when having inherently different ideas. Gamma feels so much better than tails and eggmans mecha
You forgot that the Spindash on the speed levels is a 1 second delay compared to the instant Spindash in the first game including the nerfed Spindash Jump for speedrunning both of them being unecessarily changed from perfection to gameplay detriments in the long run
@sonic 1995 Ok and how is SA2 any better? The level design in SA2 was a big downgrade from SA1. Sonic's stages are boring. Tails' stages ruin the entire game for me because you walk through the same corridors 50 times holding down the action button every 5 seconds. Knuckles stages are either short and uninteresting or frustratingly long.
@sonic 1995 Seriously, better controls? Sonic controls weird and Tails' slow controls make me wanna throw my controller out the window. Controls were better in SA1.
@@PaperMarioParty08 mario control are dogshit and shut the fuck up why are you saying thing about SA1 with ur profile picture i see that ur are 11 or 12 and i see u have not even playing sa1 or sa2 now accept that ur trash game is overrated
While i can see some parts, like the knuckles levels and a bit of tails, but on the speed levels are defenetly not liniar, there are alot of skips if you just know where they are. And if you really want to play a bad sonic game try, sonic 4 and forces
Actually, Sonic Lost World, Sonic 4 (especially episode 1), the 2010s versions of the Sonic Adventures games and Sonic Forces are the most overrated Sonic games.
@@kieranstark7213 really, sonic 4 is the most underrated lmao, have you SEEN how bad the hate has got, people have gone far to say its the worst thing they have ever played, that sonic mania destroys it in everything and thats its not deserving of being in the series timeline and finally, they say its WORSE THAN 06 AND ROL *COMBINED* !!!

WHY DO I HAVE TO RESTART AFTER I DIE? WHAT IS THIS GAME? @@Lazardeve2 that is so true nobody appreciate sonic fans dude this just shows how unappreciative Sonic is a feel you dude every sonic fan in fact the IGN reviews made everything worse how do you give a 97 rating to a game (Mario odesy ) that can't compare to adventure games, frontiers, mania and generations, I just hate how people rate sonic games bro
Gotta say, as someone who had never played Adventure or SA2 before late 2022 (I'm was an older teen btw, meaning ZERO nostalgia bias) I actually really get the hype. No, it hasn't aged as gracefully as some other games of its era, the Mech stages and car racing sucks, laughable audio mixing during cutscenes, etc., BUT I understand why it's so beloved, and I think a remake could really bring it to new heights. The speed stages rule, the art style and music ROCK, and the treasure hunting is quite good, except for the new radar. And OH BOY, THAT ENDING. Easily one of my favorite endings in any game. The characters aren't squabbling, Eggman isn't screaming "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG", but they're just processing what just happened. Eggman is talking to Tails about how he looked up to his grandfather when he was a boy, and questions if he was wrong to do so. Overall I have some gripes with the game, but I quite enjoyed it. I think something else that needs to be considered as well is comparing it to some of the other games from that era, and the games that preceded it, aside from Nintendo. But, imo, SA2 is better than Mario Sunshine. And that's coming from the most die-hard of Mario fans. It may not be the best Sonic game, but it's far from the worst. And despite its shortcomings, it has something that a noticeable amount of modern games are lacking: Heart.
I genuinely dont know what the fanbase likes about this game , like i genuinely sat down and thought what could possibly be good about this game , but i got nothing, so either: one , the fanbase is genuinely delusional , two , everyone is scared to speak the truth about it because they'll get hate , or three , this game is fucking hypnotizing everyone lmao
Very well crafted video my dude good job. Wonderful editing job. However I hard disagree on almost every point you make: Story: Your criticisms of the story are a desire for clarification on things that don't really affect the grander scope of the narrative. Shadow has had his memories tampered with and details of his relationship with Maria are a facet of that. The flashbacks ends because shadow is left to misinterpret his relationship with maria and what her dying wish was. Sonic has already been going super for years prior to this using the chaos emeralds without much effort at all. So it stands to reason he could equally harness the power of a single one in an alternate way. It makes more sense for him to get a grasp on it faster than shadow who's first interaction with a chaos emerald was when he stole one on earth. So Sonic just mimicking shadow's chaos control makes total sense. GUN misidentifying Shadow as Sonic makes sense because the last time they saw Sonic he had upturned spines and glowing red eyes surrounded by chaos emeralds, and now here's the second mobian hedgehog they've ever seen running at sound speed at nighttime wielding a chaos emerald. Why wouldn't they see it as Sonic? And even then they explain that GUN was actively trying to cover up Shadow's existence from the general public, so using sonic as a scapegoat for that is a pretty good idea. Gameplay: You seem to just not grasp why exactly they changed the formula for each of the playstyles. The speed stages were re-evaluated to be more spectacle and rewarding of mastery of level layout above granting you an open area to explore. This does not present a problem to fans of the game, as both SA1 and 2 have different philosophies in how it wants to approach the gameplay. I completely understand preferring 1, but the ebb and flow of SA2 is intentional, not a downgrade. They want people to master level layout and utilising your moveset in creative ways to beat the level as fast as you can. It's a game about spectacle, and that's not a bad thing. You neglected to explain how it was so it's safe to assume it's just your preference which is also okay. Treasure hunting was upgraded in the way that Knuckles in SA1 was largely a nothing-mode. A painfully short experience that merely sticks Knuckles in random segments of Sonic's stages and makes him follow the Tikal ball around. SA2's is literal hunting now. You have to pay attention to your surroundings, look out into the distance for landmarks and take advantage of your improved moveset to again, beat it as fast as possible. Pretty much agreed with everything in regards to kart racing and mech levels though lol. Although I will say that the levels are designed for you to again, understand and learn the level layout through repeat playthroughs to get better ranks. Not the most fun thing in the world but I think it's an intentional design choice. Soundtrack: Godlike and we all know it. Conclusion: I am sorry you didn't enjoy it. It's a very different game to SA1 ironically given the naming convention of the duology, and I can fully appreciate preferring the open-endedness of SA1. Hell sometimes I do too, but that's the pro of liking both games I guess. If I want to feel a sense of freedom and fluidity in a larger open area, I hop on SA1's sonic story. If I want tighter controls to experience a more speed-focused gauntlet-style trial of traversing through a level, SA2. SA2 resonates with a lot of fans for the unique sense of presentation it has between having so many unique locales and vistas, a heartfelt story, booming soundtrack, and series of very iconic gameplay moments between the truck chase, king boom boo, the rail grinding, the progression found with the chao garden and so on. No amount of contrary opinions will convince me otherwise and that's just how it be. Peace and chicken grease of course. Good video but gotta disagree. Sonic Adventure 2 is in isolation, a very solid package with a myriad of content from the various missions in each stage, the multiple stories, unlockable content and again; the chao if you're into that.
Nope he did grasp on why and the gameplay is terrible and speed stages weren’t spectacle and rewarding but f mastery of level layout. You’re a sonic fanboy
This was great to listen to while drawing! You're editing was great and you never took too long to get to a point. It was pretty cool to hear this side of the coin, which doesn't happen often in the Sonic community. I appreciate that you always had reasons to your arguments instead of throwing out takes and hoping someone will agree which happens a lot with these kind of videos. Well crafted and even if I don't agree with a couple of your points, I was still able to understand them with the amount of thought that explaining that you put into each of them! Very fun watch! You did it again, Mario.
Sonic 06 aside the treasure hunting levels in Adventure 1 are FAR better than the treasure hunting levels in Adventure 2 it's truly a real ass shame that not only was the radar heavily nerfed but they replaced showing Tikal balls with telling signs in other words they went with telling rather than showing most of the time it's better to show than to tell in which Adventure 1 perfected but the memo that Adventure 2 didn't get and because of that it has became a detriment to many players alike(including myself)so much so that it would take them an excessive amount of time(30 mins at times)just to get all 3 items yet people think this the best Sonic game
while i dont agree with modern sonic as a whole being bad i do agree that this game is extremely overrated mainly due to how many people grew up with it and learned to work around the games shitty design and then grew up and have a false view of the game being great since their brain filtered out all the bad memories and only left the nostalgic ones
While I don't hate SA2 I find it very overrated, I'd use to love this game but when I played it for a stream My opinions on the game changed from an 8/10 to a 6.5/10, I only liked Sonic and Shadow's gameplay, granted the levels are spectacles but still, Tails and Eggman's levels are mediocre and Knuckles and Rouge's levels are terrible. The story felt more like a JRPG like story which dose not fit Sonic's style of story, IMO Sonic Unleashed had a better story and knows how to balance the tone between light hearted and dire moments and knows when to reel it back in kinda like the Dragon Ball series. while Maekawa did improve in Sonic and the Black Knight He had to add a stupid JRPG plot by the end of Sonic and the Black Knight's story and the less We talk about Sonic 06's writhing the better. IDK why The Sonic Fanbase holds this game on a pedestal where Sonic 3 and Knuckles cemented Sonic into Video Game greatness like what Super Mario World did for Mario, Mega Man X1 did for Mega Man and Final Fantasy 7 did for Final Fantasy, Sonic 3 and Knuckles IMO is still the best Sonic game ever made but Sonic Generations is the best 3D Sonic game ever made IMO heck I still think Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors are better than Sonic Adventure 2 interims of good 3D Sonic games (even though the story in Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations are pretty cringe). I just hope that Project Sonic 2022 will bring consistency to Sonic with the current cast staying since 2010 but some minor changes like Ian Flynn as the writer for the game's story, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles play like each other with advantages and disadvantages with open world like levels kinda like Super Mario Odyssey but keep the core on what makes Sonic Sonic, the physics
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one confused with the story. I played the first sonic adventure and soon to play the second with a friend. I grew up with sonic adventure 2 and remember how hard the game was. Defos blinded by nostalgia but yeah the game is still hard nothing has changed ;-; 😂 thanks for explaining the story simply and though we may not agree on every point I really enjoyed the review :))
As a kid, I owned this game on Dreamcast and, in a fit of rage-quit, i threw it in the trash. Horrible controls, boring gameplay, stupid music. Now, when I see what it goes for on eBay, wish I had tucked it away.
Sonic and Shadow stages are amazing, Tails and Eggman gameplay are fine, and knuckles and Rouge suck. (If only they hadn't had tails in the game, he would have not been in any other game, and his story would have ended with his amazing arc in adventure 1.)
I actually like this game’s story a lot, and i like some of the levels as Shadow and Sonic (mainly City Escape, Radical Highway and the forest one i forgot the name of). But besides that, this game is extremely overrated. Physics and way the game plays just feels, off and outdated. Treasure Hunting is boring, and Shooting levels drive me fucking crazy. And 2/3 of the game is Treasure Hunting and Shooting. Honestly, i don’t fully hate this game. And i like the 2P Battle with my family, but yeah. Besides the Sonic/Shadow levels and 2-Player, this game is extremely overrated. Probably my least favorite Sonic game.
As someone who likes Mario and Sonic, I have to agree, this game is overrated as balls. This game is enjoyable at times and complete trash at others. How can people call this the best sonic game when only 1/3 of it is good? I also hate how people bring up its age as a reason to defend this game. The original Jak and Daxter also released the same year as SA2 and is far superior in every way aside from the music. Jak and Daxter’s graphics haven’t aged that well but it’s still a wonderful game to play even by today’s standards. Hell, other games from 2001 like MGS2, Max Payne and the og Devil May cry have aged better than this game.
This game is basically good for only a quarter of the games entire thing. Speed stages- perfect Mech shooting-mid Treasure hunting- if it had sa1 rader than it would have been perfect but it’s not so mid
y’all are haters in the comments, so many of the points you make are because of skill issues, or because you’re judging it by 2022 standards. You do realize the game is 21 years old? Right? I can understand the mech levels, but the treasure hunting levels actually require skill and that’s why people dislike them. Sa2 isn’t perfect, but it’s good as hell.
@@christosdoesthings No, they are the easiest and fastest stages in the game if you actually pay attention. It’s not even that hard to get good at them.
Top three most overrated Sonic games 1. Sonic Adventure 2 2. Sonic 06 3. Sonic Unleashed With that said at least the Sonic and Shadow Stages were fun in SA2 still I'd rather play Heroes any day.
one thing i don't like in this game is the character mechanics, hero characters are The same of dark characters, and this made tails being strange (why tails is in a mecha? I want to fly and tail whip in enemies, not shoot) there could be different mechanics betwen both the teams
Because tails was not gonna be included he was added last minute so they just made tails a parrel of eggmans stages and i think its way better because in sa1 it was just sonic story but slightly different and you don't have to do the satge you can just fly to the end .
Personally I think the game was legitimately good. Just because the shooting and treasure hunts weren't what you wanted doesn't mean they're bad. They played fine. Plus there are legitimate garbage Sonic games that are broken and barely playable. Sonic '06 Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, various Game gear titles, Sonic 3D Blast the list goes on. Calling a game like Sonic Adventure 2 bad like a lot of people started doing is exactly why we get such bland mediocrity like Sonic 4, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Forces.
dunno what to tell ya i like the gameplay, no problem if you don't like it and the story is the best one to me because it got me to feel something, which none of the others did lmfao.
Nope my dude. It’s still an awesome game. Definitely not as easy for newcomers with the varied gameplay styles but there’s actually a lot of depth in the three gameplay styles. (Unlike what the boost formula has become) Your critiques of the story amount to little more than you just wanted clarification where it wasn’t needed.
I think sonic unleashed, sonic adventure are the perfect examples of what sonic should be. Sonic colors is pretty good (gameplay wise) and sonic generations I’m gonna say, is overrated as fuck. The classics are badass and adventure 2 is dogshit all because of one thing, the gameplay.
@@Ijjklll I think Sonic Adventure is a pretty good game; it shows age, but it still is worthy of high praise for the Sonic levels alone. Sonic Unleashed is pretty good, but generally I just don't dig the werehog type of levels. Unlike other gameplay modes from Adventure 2, it really demands one stop in place to attack, which means that there's not the potential as is the case with the mechs or treasure hunting of SA2. Sonic Colors is just trash in my opinion. It's gameplay is bland. Sonic Generations actually has some great gameplay levels, but it is very overrated (since there hardly is that much in it in the first place). Classics are great, though I think S2 is the best of them. Sonic Adventure 2 is not dogshit. The gameplay styles are unfriendly to newcomers as I said, but if you get over your initial disconnect and look at them for what they are, they're great. They have boat loads of depth and replayability.
@@ThePastAnalysis Yeah I only said that adventure 2 was shit because of how much pain the treasure hunting stages caused me. I think adventure 2 is decent. I still think of Unleashed, colors, and adventure 1 very highly. Generations is still pretty overrated to me (besides seaside hill), and I still love the classic games
@@Ijjklll I can totally understand the beefs towards the individual styles. Part of why they work so well I think is due to the controls mixed with the ranking system. You can very improve at them and feel like a badass as a result. The gameplay fulfills the “exploration” Sonic component for me by the ranking system encouraging more experimentation and rewarding experimentation heavily.
The game is so fucking good but I see your point of view. It's not perfect I admint and there are aspects of the game that are lacking but the game kinda hit me differently. I'm supposed to say something that disregards the video here so umm...... NuH Uh!
I'm discovering the game now on my old wii. I also give it a 5/10. Definitely overrated in 2022 standards. The camera is typical of the early 2000, and the controls are horrible. The stages with sonic are broken and they're a hit or miss. Especially the sliders are so hard to reach. And the booster with the rings works only randomly. Sometimes it takes the trail, sometimes not. The stages with knuckles are boring, suffering the most from the bad camera, and with horrible rap songs. And the stages with tails are actually the least broken part of the game, even though insta-death from falling happen all the time. Compared to the sonic generation game, it's definitely worse. I also played sonic adventure 1 on pc a long time ago, but I kinda forgot how it was, except that it wasn't a pleasant experience. Overall, 3d/modern sonics feel overrated. So, I'm kinda happy sonic mania was made.
@@gokudomatic yeah.. no. People refuse to understand that the fact is, it’s a 2001 game. That’s not gonna change. And if you rate it as a 2022 game, that’s not fair, because not only did they not have access to technology that we do now, sonic wasn’t as popular then. Sonic team was smaller. And clearly you’re not very invested in these games and you’re just using the most loose and non committal terms to show you’re not even trying to like it. tf is a “slider”? Do you mean a grind rail?
@@zf10studios52 tf is a grind rail? I'm not playing a tony hawk game. Don't bother me with pointless semantics. It looks like I made a poor wording of my thoughts. I didn't mean to compare sonic adventure 2 with today's graphics and processing capabilities. Really, that was not my intent, and I chose poorly my words. What I meant was I said after, about the camera, the controls and the level design. It's about the gameplay. They didn't age well. You could say it's because it was the beginnings of the 3d. The first tomb raider had a troublesome camera too, but that was 1996. And Mario 64 and Zelda oot were released that same year too, and they had a much better camera and controls. Sonic adventure 2 came in 2001, 5 years later. Mario64 and Zelda64 are games that I call aging well. I don't know what you mean with "these" games, but I'm really fond of the classic sonic games. Parkour games are a kind that I don't dislike at all. I had a lot of fun with Mirror Edge. And games that go very fast are not an issue by itself for me either, since I really liked Sonic Generations. I simply said that sa2 is overrated and I wouldn't call it the best 3d sonic game ever.
I remember back then when I first discovered 3D Sonic games. First game: Sonic Heroes. Kinda ok. A little goofy but the stages and overall storytelling reminded me of 2D Sonic. It was buggy but a lighthearted and fun journey. Next game: SA2. Wtf is this? What are these Mech stages? Why are those treasure hunts so long and BORING? Horrible game. But at least good soundtrack. Anyway... the Adventure games suck.
@@RandomCarfromNFSand the game gives you hype with the intro, while the SA2 intro is literally just Sonic and shadow, BOOM, the end. And the gameplay is bad
bro i just started this game for the first time with an open mind and my god its a disaster. i chose the villain route first cause i wanted to play shadow and the pacing is so trash when they move on from him finding out about shadow to shadow somehow fighting a robot in an arena to shadow instantly knowing wtf is going on and explaining to eggman he will tell him everything later to eggman suddenly in a desert just casually snatching the master emerald in the most awkward pace possible to knuckles just punching it to pieces seconds after not considering any other choices against a slow ass robot to rouge making the most edgy claim about all gems being hers so they can show what her character is about like u might as well throw the story script to my face goddamn. at that point i just deleted the game bruh
Shadow was setting up a plan to have the Space Colony ARK to get revenge for Maria's death. That's why he told Eggman to meet him there in the control room.

Playing as Knuckles and Tails are cool but it’s like the developers were being lazy by adding these stages because more sonic levels mean more creative design why because sonic levels are bigger and longer to flesh out the speed.

i rate this game like a 5/10.

Very well crafted video my dude good job. Wonderful editing job.
However I hard disagree on almost every point you make:
Story:
Your criticisms of the story are a desire for clarification on things that don't really affect the grander scope of the narrative.
Gameplay:
You seem to just not grasp why exactly they changed the formula for each of the playstyles.
Soundtrack:
Godlike and we all know it.
Conclusion:
I am sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Nope all of his points are factual
Nope they aren’t a desire for clarification on things and they DO effect the grander scope of the narrative
nope they aren’t a good idea and they sucked
Nope he did grasp on why and the gameplay is terrible and speed stages weren’t spectacle and rewarding but f mastery of level layout. You’re a sonic fanboy

while i dont agree with modern sonic as a whole being bad i do agree that this game is extremely overrated mainly due to how many people grew up with it and learned to work around the games shitty design and then grew up and have a false view of the game being great since their brain filtered out all the bad memories and only left the nostalgic ones
You saying "Project Sonic 2022" reminds me of those "Project Sonic 2017 Is going to be good" comments, boy were we wrong :(
Sonic unleashed didn’t have the better story
sonic 3 and knuckles Isn’t cemented into video game greatness like Mario world and the other games
nah SA1, Unleashed and Colots are terrible
Nope they ain’t going to bring open world levels like Mario odyssey
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one confused with the story. I played the first sonic adventure and soon to play the second with a friend. I grew up with sonic adventure 2 and remember how hard the game was. Defos blinded by nostalgia but yeah the game is still hard nothing has changed ;-; 😂 thanks for explaining the story simply and though we may not agree on every point I really enjoyed the review :))
The unpopular hot take: Jet Set Radio killed Sonic Adventure 2 😂
As a kid, I owned this game on Dreamcast and, in a fit of rage-quit, i threw it in the trash. Horrible controls, boring gameplay, stupid music. Now, when I see what it goes for on eBay, wish I had tucked it away.

Sonic and Shadow stages are amazing, Tails and Eggman gameplay are fine, and knuckles and Rouge suck. (If only they hadn't had tails in the game, he would have not been in any other game, and his story would have ended with his amazing arc in adventure 1.)
I disagree.
Nobody cares
The "music breaks" could be a bit shorter, but I agree with the video.
Speed stages- perfect
Mech shooting-mid
Treasure hunting- if it had sa1 rader than it would have been perfect but it’s not so mid
y’all are haters in the comments, so many of the points you make are because of skill issues, or because you’re judging it by 2022 standards. You do realize the game is 21 years old? Right? I can understand the mech levels, but the treasure hunting levels actually require skill and that’s why people dislike them. Sa2 isn’t perfect, but it’s good as hell.
Or you know, maybe, just maybe,
Some people actually dislike the treasure hunting levels because theyre boring and break the pace.
@@christosdoesthings No, they are the easiest and fastest stages in the game if you actually pay attention. It’s not even that hard to get good at them.

Subbed cuz youre so close to 1000
You forgot Weapons Bed which is the best Eggman level over Cosmic Fall
one thing i don't like in this game is the character mechanics, hero characters are The same of dark characters, and this made tails being strange (why tails is in a mecha? I want to fly and tail whip in enemies, not shoot)
there could be different mechanics betwen both the teams
Because tails was not gonna be included he was added last minute so they just made tails a parrel of eggmans stages and i think its way better because in sa1 it was just sonic story but slightly different and you don't have to do the satge you can just fly to the end .
@@xanderjacques5642thats wrong, because they already had the normal tails completed, just go to chao garden.
@@Ajotaenehere I come
Personally I think the game was legitimately good.

Proof that Sonic Adventure 2 is not the best Sonic game
Because he said it wasn't?
“Yes, I’ll judge this 2001 game by 2022 standards.”
@@zf10studios52 Of course I will. It's called "aging".
