Always smart to start with an easy beginner feature.
Start slow they said.
Build the basics they said.
Hah nice
phil doesnât follow the rules
@@jc854R
Phil follows his own rules.
@@DinnerForkTongue I heard Phil makes the rules.
:-p
Only Phil would build a road gap as the first feature on his backyard trails
My thoughts exactly
And then call it a blue/black trail xD
@@aljowen and say "it might not look like much..." It looks like a lot even if it was just a gap.
Pretty huge gap too I think. The gopro effect is working its awful magic i feel to shrink this on camera
Then intentionally put a dead wall aka log for consequence đ
I love the 3 foot piece of rebar sticking out of the landing as Phil hits it.
Safety 3rd!
Skills With Phil whatâs 2?đ
Hey, itâs got a red flag on it, so whereâs the danger?
@@brandoncummings4169 i would guess: 1 fun, 2 fast, 3 safety đ
@@SkillsWithPhil you also probably should have at least bent the rebar with your foot
Who also canât wait to see how this will look when they are done?
đââïžseeing the trench/ groundhole with all those Rocks , men i can't waitđ€©
His vids are so good!
Just a tip to help the features last longer, when you put stakes in the ground try removing the bark and charging the wood with a flame. It will prevent future rot and work. Anyway really great vid keep up the work.
Cool name
Good tip but don't know if he hits your advice or not?
Im gonna actually try that
that hardens it too, making it easier to drive deeper
Makes a road gap with a 5 ft piece of rebar sticking out of the landing to impale yourself on for a little bit of extra spicyness.
"Yeah this trail is like a blue"
Phil "We call this lil starter here Vlad."
"Vlad?"
"Vlad. Vlad The Impaler."
"Vlad the what now...?"
"He put people on spikes"
"Spikes?"
"Spikes" >Points to rebar<
"SPIKE!!! By the hoehoba shampoo in me hair, Phil! Is thee mental?!...
Vlad is a kool name though..."
Episode 1: Enduro Trail
Episode 2: Road Gap
Episode 3: ReCreating fort hill gap jumps
Episode one was an xc trail
No he will now proceed to make dark fest
Cameron Davis technically speaking youâre right
Guy who rides bikes Episode 5 will be the first 200 foot jump
@@Scojopo23 that's more similar to loose fest but yeah lol đ (the biggest jump at loose fest was apparently 150 feetđ€Ż)
my favorite part is when you cut down a tree with a circular saw lol
Equally awesome was circular saw as a router!!!
I came to the comments to see if anyone says something about that hahahaha
Dude the *first* thing he builds is a *ROAD GAP*
There is no such thing as easing in
With phill you donât ease in
Did you see the size of it lmao
With Phil that IS easing in XD
Ep. 1: A trail
Ep. 2: A road gap
Ep. 3: literally recreating A-Line
Ep 4 recreating darkfest
Episode 5 buying a bigger backyard
Episode 6 building stairway to heaven
Episode 7 Crabapple Hits but there's spikes in the gaps
Episode 8: Dirt Merchant
Phil= Big jump but pretty smooth.
Seth= Smaller with a skinny lead in and something to catch your bottom bracket . Face first into a stone wall is penalty for failure.
I would love to see you working with Seth ! Imagine Seths Creativity with Phils skill!
Phil helped Seth build the Mameframe on Berm Peak
Joel Bergsma Jeah thatâs why I said that :)
seth should build a feature here, and phil builds a feature on berm peak
I'm very happy that their building style is way different. So far Phil likes to use the tree's around him and Seth likes building with dimensional lumber. Hopefully they use different paths to get to the same effect. Good job Phil.
I agree bro
So excited to follow along with this building series!
etanrh7 same
SAME
I like how you built the right hand gap right after the drop. Simple but tech, Good job
So glad you guys are doing well and pumping out consistent content, always loved this channel, now its even better!
Amazing. You living the dream man! Seeing how Your hard work for so many years paid off is inspiring, but also makes me feel how I wasted my life so far... I wish I would fall in love with MTB when I was a child and not just couple of years ago. Now I can't even ride due to very serious injury đ. If I could relive my youth it would be MTB all the way. Nothing made me so happy in my life and now I can't do it and I don't know for how long.... HUGE respect for what You do Phil. Thanks for playing bikes with us đ
Love how the first feature Phil built was a road gapđloving the videos
Phil - I didn't have the right tool to cut it so I decided to hammer a impaling stick to punish those who bail or crash on the landing
00:47 - That see through fishnet shirt tho, new merch coming soon!
Andy H that so the chainsaw wonât cut u lol
Doesnât he also have his flies undone
@@zakzeman2462 congrats u got the joke
@@zakzeman2462 itâs a bug net to prevent mosquito bites.. that ainât stopping no chainsaw lol. Thatâs what the chaps are for.
Phil, looks like that turn would be a perfect spot for a berm.
You guys are going to be ripped when this trail system is done, using only hand tools! Killer start!
I've done that same thing you tried with pulling the log up the hill but with a couple of huge boulders. I ended up using about 1000' of rope, four pulleys, and my Jeep at the bottom pulling the rope. It's the best part of my trail. I have 5 miles total, and it's a pain for one guy to maintain. All those leaves you raked off are going to need to be blown off multiple times a year. It's not a big deal on the straight sections but on high speed turns almost a necessity for safety. Doing your own trail makes you appreciate how rider traffic keeps it free of debris.
You made the trending page! Congrats!! Lets get the world stoked on biking again!
Deep backcountry woods primitive trail building at its best. Simple power tools, a chainsaw and ingenuity of using what's avaliable around you with minimal modern construction material.
Sick first main feature.
One thing that will help the drill from getting hot and smoking is to use smaller paddle bits first before working up to the final size, sweet drop Phil!
SICK! SICK! SICK! SICK! SICK!
Looks great, canât wait to see the whole backyard trail complete. Just keep in mind that the logs you are using will work for a while but as they are on the ground and covered in dirt they will eventually rot and have to be replaced.
So sick. I'm looking at houses with this stuff in mind.
Thanks for the rebar hack! I will definitely use that on the future trails
You can learn a lot from watching contractors build everyday things ;)
Dude, that drop and jump are very technical. I think many will underestimate it. Great work, both of you
Super stoked to see how all this turns out!!
That area that you "want to clean up" looks like there could be a sick rock roll hiding underneath. I'd love to see how you use it.
I havent been following your channel but I am a fan of seths bike hacks and have seen you featured. I am going to start watching your content, which from the looks of this video is high quality. Keep it up. Can't wait to see more progress.
Going road gap for the first feature is a prime example of âthe heart wants what the heart wants.â
Phil, youâre a proper legend mate.
Awesome build. Like how you used what was already available to build your feature. Have really enjoyed watching you develop your new property. Keep the videos coming.
I'm impressed with your skill building trails and riding them. Good work.
Looking good man. Keep the videos coming. Fun to watch.
thank you for making trail videos, it is what got me in to mountain biking and i find it the most fun to watch
Canât wait to see your bike park progress more and more!
Gotta love all the effort they put in and how well they did
This looks like an incredible amount of work. It looks fantastic. Great job.
another great video, will be great to see the rest of your builds and see you using what you have learned so far to incorporate into future builds. Keep the content coming
Looks sweet!
Would love to see Seth's Bike Hacks and The Singletrack Sampler stop by and build some trail features with you Phil. Just seeing you guys exchange ideas and build techniques would be awesome to watch.
So cool to see some features in your backyard! Great job.
PHIL YOU'RE A LEGEND
Love the new trail videos Phil
Looks like very rewarding hard work! Well done sir!
This trail system is going to be amazing!
Rad Phil, great feature and fantastic video, keep up the hard work!
Seth: Makes everything out of wood because he doesn't like working with dirt.
Phil: Amazing dirt builder and already making dirt features.
Yeah I'm definitely gonna like Phil's trail better. Seth's is kinda slow and too feature based.
The thing is it rains less in Vermont then at seths
One of the reasons might be because Seth has a lot more patreons to fund his builds. Building with wood costs quite a bit of money but building similar features with dirt and dead fall is much cheaper just more labour intensive. Im stoked to see more of Phils trails though, he seems to know what he's doing.
Seth's back yard features would turn into a landslide if it was dirt-based. But either way, its interesting to watch how each person builds their dream session spot, and I'll be watching both with EXCITEMENT!
Devin J i agree
This is so sick! Keep up the good work phill!
Canât wait to see the progress on the next video!
this looks like a blast, and itâs only the beginning!
Great trail system and build. I really like your videos, they are a lot of fun and the skills video really have great technique information.
Phil, I feel like you took this short little break, and now you're back with more gusto! I can feel the psych. Love it man!
Definitively a black. Not because of the gap, but because of the turn-triple-sharp turn after. Nice!
I've smoked a couple of drills like that! Those long drill bits are hell on the motors.
Thatâs what lube is for
@@Iheartdgd that's what she said....
Great work and tunes glad you were wearing your hard hat for safety đđđ€đ€
Love your videos dude u r such an inspiration, keep up the good work đ”đŒââïžđ
the lumberjack fit. wowza
Phil I just want to say you are an absolute workhorse taking this on as your first proper feature. Top man đđ
Love this video man, happy to see you building again. that drop looks sick!!!
Iâm super excited to see how the trails turn out
so cool!!!
love the content phill! thanks for being so inspiring, iâve been riding a bunch now!
I canât wait for what Phil is going to build đ€
Love it! Road gap stright off, no f**ks given!
So sick!!! Pumped for you guys
Phil once you get a few features built up, you should invite some riders over and have a jump jam! It would be really cool to watch
I love your attitude, keep it up!!
My favorite video from you so far
Dude! You are a machine! Insane work and it already looks dialed.
Loving the trail building content, keep it up!!
Youâre killing it dude! Iâm building in my backyard and this is an inspiration, and Iâm sure there is much more to come. Funny, I was thinking this is pretty tame for Phil, and then then you started higher up the hill!
Next: MAKING DARK FEST IN MY BACKYARD!
Sick trail build. Can't wait to see what this turns into
A Milwaukee arbor blade in your sawzall will make for quick work on the smaller logs. It is just as fast as a chainsaw , but will let you cut close to the ground without the chance of dulling your chain as soon as it hits dirt.
loving this series
This summer has been hot in Vermont. Wearing muck boots and a bug net while doing that kind of work Iâd say itâs time to welcome you into the âReal Vermonterâ club.
Canât wait to see what you do with the trails
That chainsaw fit is legit.
Nice work Phil. These videos are sick
Loved the vid so much canât wait for more vids on this series
Lovin the new trail building vids man
Looks great. Well done đ
Philâs bug vest looks like a met gala outfit
Pretty cleanđ
Love these videos, keep them up!
To everyone who reads this I hope you have a great day
You too dude
I love you my guy
No homo
lock-nesstea that part is important
Thanks, you too Toby
Hey Phil , use an auger bit for your timber hole drilling . Much stronger and also make sure your drill is as powerful as you can or it will keep burning out . Nice work and canât wait to see it finished đđ»
You make it look so easy!
Looooove the trail building videos. Canât wait to play bikes next time when Iâve got my first full sus.
Looking good Phil, keep the good content rolling! đ€đ
You should build a dirt or wooden berm after the second jump.
Thats going to be a fun trail.
That jump is sick, I like the builds! Lol I was like bro you're gonna smoke your drill, 15 seconds later...yep.
Phil is on an other level DANG
Looks so fun
11:57 really good pa- (Music)
