Tuomas: "Personally I feel that this is probably the best, at least most touching performance by Floor that I've ever heard. She really captures the essence of the song and tells the story as it should be told."

In one of Tuomas interviews he said that this was the very first song he wrote for the whole album. It was the starting point of it and I guess therefore also the heart and soul of the whole album. He also said that he never heard Floor sing like this and it was very emotional for him too. There are a lot of hints to everything in this song and video. Go back to the part with Father Pikaia and how he gave way when sapiens came a long. At the moment the word Sapien was sung by Floor the Song changed! Also the pictures have some further meanings sometimes. They put in the dutch book cover of "Het ontstaan der Soorten" which is the "origin of species" book of Charles Darwin ;-) but in dutch because Floor is dutch :-) Also the reference of "spaceship earth" kills me every time because if you think it through we are on a spaceship which happens to have a stable orbit around the sun. And on a spaceship everything is related and depending on each other. Humans are dependent of Nature which consists all the endangered species. Each of them have a part and role on this spaceship and still we are so dumb to treat them like shit and kill their habitats.
    Tuomas is a genius.....

Hi guys, thanks for your reaction. This song has a beatiful melody with Floor, but at the same time, it's like a wake up call. You pointed out the skills of Tuomas writing these lyrics. I have been thinking the same thing actually in every NW song. There is allways a story behind as he has told us. Or like in this song a story with the deeper message and meaning in it. And really to write lyrics like this as being a non-english speaking person, amazing. But obviously, he is a very talented person composing all this music. At this point I take my hat off, it's great to listen to and enjoy of his work with Nightwish. Let's have more music from Nightwish, together is more fun. See you.

  • @TimoArula

This song is a huge message. At the end you realize it's sung by whatever we evolve into in the far far future. That part really grabs me. They asked Tuomas what song he liked best when it comes to Floor's addition to it. He said that in Procession, her voice really moved him. This song may not be one to rock out to. It's all about the message. The blue - throated macaw in this video. Not long ago its cousin the blue or hyacinth macaw (the birds that were the inspiration for animated movie Rio) went extinct. Rhinos nearly extinct. There are only two white rhinos left in the world and both are female. Extinction is part of nature, but not like this. Humans are way too greedy and cause extinction. That's not nature, that's... genocide...
In Human :II: Nature record hearing session for Journalists in Spring 2020
Tuomas told that Nightwish has donated a significant amount of money for the work against climate change
    - In practice, our donation is used to buy a forest area that is under threat of felling. Floor has sold his performance clothes and the money is directed to the same destination. Also, each member of the band donates a certain amount into the World Land Trust once a month.
    - We cooperate with the World Land Trust.
Fun fact we humans changed the world in 200 years like the World change by herself in 1 Million years ...
    NWSU 🤘😎🤘.

Your flabbergasted reaction pretty much said it all. Harry, PROPS for your comment about Tuomas' poetic ability, not even being a native English speaker. That guy has a far better command of the English language than the vast, vast majority of those for whom it's their first (or only) language! Combined with his compositional skills, it's kind of otherworldly.
I think I've mentioned this before, but he *also* wrote a film: "Imaginaerum", the companion piece to their album. You REALLY should watch that, and maybe even do a reaction to it?!?? If you think you're dumbfounded now, wait until you add THAT into the mix! FYI - the movie (for now) is available in its entirety here on CZcams.
If you watch it, your level of awe at Tuomas will go up an order of magnitude.

With this song I had to stop what I was doing and I sunk into the lyrics at once and I started crying, very heart breaking cry, I felt the song in my soul. This is procession. And perfection.
Just some things that might not be obvious:
    - "We were there - and we'll remember mankind": Nice echo from the singers of the gone to the "We were here" from TGSOE. The entire song is an epilogue to TGSOE to me.
    - "A cradle earth, horizons unseen": He's using that line twice in the song. And not by accident. To me, this means that the singers of the gone face extinction themselves. They are at the end of pi = at the end of time. In a big crunch kind of way maybe.
    - "words and melodies with a touch of coloring": The video is black-and-white. The endagered species are the only thing in colour. In a Shakespeare kind of way, Tuomas gives us the key for how to read his lines.
The whole song reminds me of Ayreon's "Final experiment". A wise species from the future tries to save the world by putting enlightening messages into our souls by music. Tuomas is our Ayreon.
When I first listened to this song, I didn't get it at all. Then, I read the lyrics - and it broke my heart.

  • @RepeCipi

We can learn a lot from Nighwish. If we just try to get into Tuomas' head, we can see what he is thinking about, what his character and personality are like, and that is where he cares about the world, humanity and everything created on this heavenly earth. I have learned a lot and I am learning from Nightwish to be a better person, to value those true values and to always give a hand of salvation to those who are less than ourselves, not a hand that will let them fall into the abyss. It is simply our mission on this earth to fight for a better tomorrow for all of us.
I think that Tuomas does not want to show us what a genius he is, but that he wants to show us the values that every man needs to recognize in himself in order to be a better man.

It is somewhat along the same lines as this one, but it treats the concept of music as if it were a conscious entity in and of itself, laying throughout all time waiting patiently for the dawn of mankind to be its lover. It is a widely overlooked and under-appreciated track. In my opinion it is the singularly most beautiful song on this album. You should react to the whole newest album in order - really great.
The whole second part of the newest album is an instrumental masterpiece.
There is a fan video that has all pieces together with the most beautiful graphics (Tuomas approved)
It will blow your mind too.

When you consider that the entire band is at least bi-lingual (Floor, however, speaks no less than 5 languages - Dutch, Swedish, English, some Finnish and now German), it makes those of us here in the US who only speak one language (and most of us not very well at that) seem a bunch of idiots.

"We wrote this in a tongue you would understand"... Harry, I think Tuomas was reading your mind... LOL Maybe a bit prophetic as well. To bad it's based in paganism.

Nightwish will never play this live. It is done for charitable reasons to support The World Land Trust. The song is about the development of life on earth.
If you read the lyrics you will find that this song is coming from a very unique perspective. Not first person or third person, but from a universal Watcher perspective outside of humanity.
We are, singers of the gone
We remember, as along came life
We are, we were, and will not be
We remember, as along came acorn
We will remember all the suffering
We wrote this in a tongue you will understand
Words and melodies with a touch of coloring
We were there and will remember mankind
    Our kin
    Aeons ago

The birth of life on the planet, the progression of the species. Only a small amount of human beings are trying to save them, they are gone because of our overreach. Tuomas of course wrote this. Guess you haven’t done Greatest Show on Earth. All in alignment.

Finns are on average pretty good English speakers, strange regarding our languages' mutually incompatible phoneme formation and utterly incompatible sentence structure. Tuomas is a poet in two languages, for which I doff my hat and bow my head. To me the song Procession is about the future time, when they are like the Australopithecus Afarensis was to us. It gives hope for the humankind to survive the Anthropocene die-off and and flourish perhaps elsewhere, perhaps here.
The song may even have a touch of the deep time (10 to a power of so many years that the age of the Earth may be just an eyeblink), and the future generations having progenitors of us, right now.
