Personnel:
Joan Baez - acoustic guitar, vocals
Jerry Garcia - electric guitar
Bob Weir - acoustic guitar, vocals
Phil Lesh - bass
Mickey Hart - drums, percussion
Summary:
The first three songs are solo acoustic but the rest has Grateful Dead members backing her. Mickey Hart was dating Baez at the time and The Dead did 1981 album sessions (of several of these same songs) for her, which is why she was invited to do this show.
The first 5 tracks are plagued by a "60 cycle hum". They finally fix that just before she begins singing "The Boxer." Other intermittent audio issues occur briefly, but it is primarily excellent audio from there on out, so all of the material with Dead members sounds fine. - Hudba
Joan Baez has a voice from heaven.
There are many female vocabulists ive heard, but Joan's gets my vote
I can't listen without harmonizing, and I can't harmonize without crying like a baby
I am used to Olivia Newton Johns rendition but this is my favorite song so I love this also. Very nice
I grew up on the banks of the Ohio and 64 years later im still here
Joan Baez has a strong voice combined with traditional folk style interpretation of this. Another distinctive and excellent version
This is absolutely country music!
What an incredible voice! Thank you Ms Baez!❤
Så sant hälsningar från Sweden
I just started to hum this to myself tonight ,my ma used to sing it .I ended up here with the best Baez
Jerry and Joan, legendary performance ❤️👍.
Wonderful old Carter tune, Mother Maybelle will make you cry when she does it
Even as a little kid maybe 8 or 9 this song (Banks of the Ohio) tore me up.
Joan and The Gratefull Dead: 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Très belle personne et Voix extraordinaire
J adore cette chanson je ne m en lasse jamais. Merci joan de votre di belle voix et de votre personnalité.

Wow! Jerry Garcia and Joan Baez!
If they had Pigpen they would have the whole Grateful Dead band and I am a devoted Deadhead. Have been since 1968.
And one of my favorite songs ever. The only one of the two appalachian murder songs. Along with Little Saide.
Outside of Pigpen, the entire Grateful Dead accompanied her.
Hell yes ! 👏🏻
❤
Joan Baez, she is the Best
Yes, absolutely
Un placer volver a escucharte. Gracias Joan. Saludos desde Argentina
CZcams took me from Billy Strings doing a Doc Watson tribute in 2017 (with Royal Masat newly joined the band), to Doc and Clarence Ashley video recording of Banks of the Ohio for Folkways in 1961, to GD and Joan Baez performing the same song here in 1981. My head is spinning. Nice guitar work here by Bobby and Jerry.
REAL music....
A nice tremolo guitar solo by Bob at 1:02!😊
Maravilloso Joan. Gracias por la melodía.

sharap stupid bitch!!
Superbe version !!!!!quelle plaisir !!!!!MERCI..
Fantastico ❤
Danke! én magyar vagyok! Joan Baez örök barátnőm!!!
Love her best on this song💕💕💕👍👍👍
Great picking from both the guitarist
Missed so much is the parents: John and Lauris: also their Golden child, Marko, love the Family
The original text: "and in no other's arms entwine." also the part about the knife. MOST later performers bowdlerize!
Love
Wow! Revisited the channel. Thank You!
Best song of Baez
it's so nice to see someone let Bob solo for a change. you get a turn, Bob
j'imagine Joan chanté dans une forêt et tous les oiseaux l'ecouter

Joan Baez I am very impressed with your beautiful version of Olivia Newton John Banks of the Ohio very much indeed
haha... olivia newton john covered joan... there was a joan baez singing this song long before there was olivia newton john
It originated from an 18th century English folk song
She sang it as beautiful as Olvia Newton John did ever since she was a kid
oliva's version is better
Merveilleuse joan baez je ne me lasse de l écouter. Merci
@@petersimson9519 Yep. Olivia makes the killer a woman and the victim a man, which makes sense being sung in a woman's voice.

@@petersimson9519 I agree.
Once I realized that songs where a form of communication, I listened more carefully.

I wonder if the album Joan Baez made with the Grateful Dead will ever be released? Would be great to hear it!
i do hope not. You must be joking.
@@bancrows165 No, I'm not joking and I do hope it is released one day. Cheers.
@@johnnyjensen6067 A couple of songs from those sessions were released on her 3 CD box set years ago (Jack A Roe and Marriott USA). The rest can be found circulating and including on CZcams I believe
@@sneakerfacevids441 Thank you very much. Cheers.

Bob Weir was getting emotional. He stopped playing and put his hand on the chest.
Olivia Newton-John's version is the best
Yes,I agree ☺️
aint nobody in the whole wide world can beat Joanie!!!!
@@zymelin21 after all joan is the original
Man Jerry's looking rough there
jei2574 yeah, and he's no Clapton
@@mccurryburg No, he's JERRY GARCIA!
A murder song like Delilah innit? Shouldn't it be banned? Lol x
It's a very good song, and Baex was very good, but the blokes playing the two guitars were without hope and no threat to the ONJ version from 1972, or 1973. If Joan had got rid of the guitarists it would have been an excellent version.
This chic is an aweful singer
