Classic cars & more at the "Anything Goes" evening car meet | Whitchurch Motor Club

- The rippling power of the '56 Standard 8 propelled us to this year's "Anything Goes" classic car, modified car, and indeed any interesting vehicle meet held recently, and a fine old time was had.
This annual gathering in a large field a few miles from Whitchurch (Shrops) is organised by the Whitchurch Motor Club, and attracts all manner of vehicle. Rally cars, modified road cars, classic cars, and even a few vintage cars, can be expected to turn up, as can a healthy smattering of old tractors, lorries, motorcycles and more, and 2022 was no different. So popular was it this year that an overflow car park had to be speedily established in a neighbouring field.
In this video we head over nice and early in order to see most of the vehicles arrive, and this being a classic car channel, we focus mainly (but not entirely) on the older cars that turned up. Unsurprisingly, we were the only people to arrive in a Standard, hot on the heels of a pre-war Austin 10/4 that we caught up (!) on the lanes approaching the show field.
Other classic cars in evidence at the 2022 meet included a race-prepared Austin A35, the aforementioned Austin 10/4, plus an Austin 12/4 taxi, Jaguar E-Types, many Mk1 & Mk2 Ford Escorts (road & rally), Ford Transit Mk1 vans, Triumph TRs, Peugeot 405 Mi16, a very original Humber Hawk, Viva HB & HC, Rover P3, Spitfires & GT6, Jensen Interceptor, Austin 7s (inc van), AC Cobra replica, Renault 18 Turbo, Rover P6, Opel Ascona & Manta, Mk1 Mini Cooper, XK140, Ford E83W pickup, VdP 1300, Cortina Lotus Mk2, Ford Cortina Mk1 GT, Aston Martin V8, Jaguar C-Type replica, vintage three-wheel Morgan and many more. Certainly plenty to keep the fan of older cars happy.
Please also take a look at the rest of the Old Classic Car channel's content as there are many other show visits now uploaded on here.

Did you manage to get many clips of the cars leaving, I was in an Audi S8 and wanted to see if you have a clip of me leaving.
Hi, I didn't but my lad may have done, he filmed a lot of the departures and will have a vid up on his CarTraction channel when he gets chance.
Wow what a fantastic turn-out for this evening meet. Thanks, as always, for the great coverage. Nice to see those beautiful pre war cars, the Wolseley and Austin Ruby.
Thank you. Great video. As usual. Peace be unto you.
Definitely a mixture 😎👌it's great seeing all the classics 👍
Back in the sixties my grandfather sold his Singer 8 to a family run local garage near Carlisle. Around 1995 my father revisited the same garage as he was passing by and mentioned this to the garage owner. My father was escorted into the back of the garage buildings. There a very old chap was making tea and was keen to hear my father's story about the Singer 8 and said he knew exactly what happened to the car. In the corner was sheeted vehicle and yes you guessed it the old boy unveiled my grandads car!... The old boy had kept it all those years and fully restored it. My dad spent the afternoon with the old boy chatting and took the car out for a spin! What are the chances!
Wow great story, I assume it's still around somewhere?
@@oldclassiccarUK yes I'm guessing it's bound to be still around. Must ask my father which garage as I pass that part of the country regularly so I could pop in and enquire. My father did ask first refusal on the car should the guy ever sell it. So far he hasn't received a call. So I'm guessing it's been handed down. You certainly wouldn't scrap a car like that. Glad you find the story interesting. Quite a rare event.
Thank you for sharing this. There is certainly something for everyone here.
Wow what a fantastic event really enjoyed that thanks 👍😊
Wonderful variety. Nice to see and hear them arriving. Thanks Rick.
The Mini Cooper with all the stickers looks good without the rear bumper I think. Thanks👍
Thanks for sharing your evening Rick and family, very enjoyable. 👍
That TRIPLEX Transit must be a County 4x4 conversion, very rare and highly desirable. Fantastic vehicle. Super capable off road yet economical on a run in 2WD mode because of the taller gearing.
It was certainly an amazing sight, thanks for watching
I, didn't see any, classic fiat panda, two wheels drive 1000cl, or 4x4 fiatpanda,
A great interesting and varied show, thanks for showing us around all the cars.
Thanks for supporting the channel
Really enjoyable video. I think I'm with you in liking the Humber Hawk. Survivor cars are so very interesting to look at and as you said the smell of these untouched cars is so evocative. Thanks for posting Rick.
The Malpas Yesteryear Festival is back on this autumn !
Hi yes we'll try and get to that I think, thanks for watching
its crazy killer to view your program from northern Indiana USA! Well done.
Great, glad you're liking the channel, it'd be neat to get even more viewers from the USA!
Great video. Dad built a JBA falcon he displayed at shows. Cream paint oxblood seats. Wire wheels.
My take home car and favourite has to be the SS Jaguar and a close second the C type Jaguar. Thank you for a great video Rick
Thanks Alan, glad you liked it
Fantastic turnout for the club. I do like a good Jaguar C Type replica (recreation). They are manufactured in New Zealand too - Coventry Classics, based in Southland, NZ. Still way out of my price range tho'.
What an awesome array of cars, makes, years. Fantastic collection, how does it feel to have the only Standard 8 in the paddock.
Well videoed.
There appears to be a good Standard club presence over in N Wales but not so much around us
fantastic vid rick, but i would be hard pushed to choose one
As a point of information, the Triumph 1500 switched from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive before it was called the Dolomite. My late father had a valencia blue 1300 front wheel drive in 1967 (JVC 389E) and then later he had a 1975 rear wheel drive delft blue 1500TC (JJF 812N) before they were called Dolomites. The front wheel drive ones had the sticking-out hub caps and wheels which were retained when they switched to rear wheel drive, as his had, but when they started the Dolomite the wheels went to more conventional ones with flat hub caps. As a 70-year-old (anorak) who was mechanicing in the 60s and 70s I still recall the details of a lot of these cars, and your videos bring back many memories, my only problem being that I keep saying things to myself like "they are the wrong rear lights for that year!"
Interesting, thanks for clarifying!
Thumbs up.you liked the Thames 'pickup'then.lol.
Cheers mate,enjoyable vid.
Late to the party today, what a great idea "Anything Goes". Some nice cars there and cool to see.
Yes it's a neat meeting, held annually
Another great vid thanks for showing my car :-)
Which is your car?
@@oldclassiccarUK the white mk1 mini
Your knowledge of cars is pretty impressive
Just bits and bobs you pick up along the way, thanks for watching!
Great Video…. Thanks.
Thanks Nigel
Another great car meet event. Thanks for a great overview. Bob
Thanks Bob
Always wanted a penant, or similar
Thanks for yet another interesting and enjoyable video. BTW....how did things go in the Austin re the "fumes"?
Love to see the old well used, even scruffy cars much more than those over restored arriving on a trailer! Cars should be used, that's what they were designed to do. I would back a move to say all entries should be driven to the show.
I like them all to be honest, glad it was of interest

Oh good heavens this is just a cavalcade of British beauty.
Must be one of best classic car shows , Hope every one behaved themselves when leaving, unlike they did at Brands Hatch which has now had to be cancelled due to complaints I think a dough nut in. one of the trucks would possibly be noticed .Well done everyone!
Yes a really good evening meet and being sensible was the order of the day, I decided not to do any doughnuts/donuts in the Standard :-)
The Thames pick up is cute as a button.
'tis neat isn't it
I used to have a Ford Escort 1.3L mk2 1980V in Sable Brown Metallic like the T reg.
Reminds me of my days stuck in traffic jams.
Great video 📹👍so many nice cars 🚗👍
I love classic cars, but it’s also cool to see some of the newer, and “other” stuff [ Tractors].
It’s especially interesting since I’m in the US.
(( ive always really liked the style of the MK-ll Cortina. The were sold in the US for a short time. My School Teacher had the Wagon [ Estate ].))
🚗🙂
Thanks Jeff!
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Rover 2000tc is a daily driver for 12 months had a lot of welding some engine work it was parked up in 1986 had been in previous owners family from 2 years old . I’m soon to give it a full paint job
Good stuff, nice to see an early one saved, thanks for watching
The taxi looks like the one that was frequently used in the tv series Poirot.
1:00:54 that yellow Beetle there is my Dad’s Beetle, the lad in the brown shirt is me.
It looked like a good 'un! thanks for watching
Great video love watching all your CZcams stuff how do you know where so many car show are on ??
Thanks for watching - I look out for new meets on Facebook and the like, plus word of mouth, and also checking to see when shows we've been to previously are being held again (when I remember!).
Thanks
Love standards
The Triplex Transit looks like a Rally Car support vehicle.
It would be a tough choice between the orange 2 door ascona or the viva hb with the alley cats
car to take home the interceptor possably rarest there was the 5 axle scania truck ( 5 axles is comen in holland and even even southern ireland but id think theres maybe less than a dozen in the uk ,,, ford offerd a 4x4 tansit for firms such as the electric board and water boards who needed to get across country i drove one in mid 80s while working for a ford dealer and it needed a field to turn around
I like the way the Gulf Ford “GT40” copied the colours of the Ford tractor…
Hi vis vest with your youtube channel printed on it would be a sub getter. You would be surprised how many people dont bother you about filming either.
Not a bad idea! thanks
Whoops, sorry, I've got Austins on my brain at the moment. I should have asked....how did things go in the Standard 8 re the "fumes"?
No complaints that I heard, so that was a good result :)
@@oldclassiccarUK 😊
" she's never lived untill she's had kebab fat running down her elbows" 🤣 who said calssic car owners were boring?.. Great show nice to see such a aclectic mix of cars
:-) I wondered whether someone might pick up on that golden comment
@@oldclassiccarUK as a classic car, beer and kebab lover it tickled me
The europa is called a banks europa, they are made up the road from me.👍👍🇬🇧
Pretty biased against imports a house paint rover gets a mention but not class gear
What is "class gear"? Most of the imports at the meet were recent cars so not in scope for a classic/vintage car channel, I'm quite happy to feature imports in my vids (I own several American vehicles but only the old ones make it into vids for the same reason). Thanks for watching
Class imports like the finance deal Audis Mercs BMWs and the Peugeot diesel estate
55 percent of the cars dont belong there
It's called "Anything Goes", which means anything can turn up
