  • I recently picked up this Original Owner 86 Mustang GT which is fully loaded with every option! The car came with a book of documentation and is just about as original as they come. The only issue is that the car hadn't run in 10 years! The oil was last changed in 2001 and the battery was date stamped 2006. In this episode we will go over a couple of basics to get the car running. There will be a few things to get done but overall this car is immaculate!

That one is nicer than most of the restorations that I see.

I have an 86 GT that I sadly had to put away probably 10 + years ago and this makes me want to pull it back out and get it going again. My car is going to need a bit more work as it had 175K miles on it when I put it away, but someday I’ll bring her home and get her fixed up again. Nice to see clean examples like this one.

I'm in exactly the same boat as several others on here...bought my '86 GT in high school senior year '99, I drove it hard but took care of it...I left for the Army and was gone for close to a decade, it was garaged--but my '79 Pace 4 spd V8 was left with a good friend-who didn't want to tell me it was stolen and driven by a junkie who really trashed it.
I got it back... but was so sickened by how trashed it was, I sold it with the invaluable 289 HI-PO top end from a '67 still attached....I took solice in the fact it was bought by a purported mustang restoration shop--only to see it being parted out a month later...I sold it in good faith for a stupid deal, knowing it would end up being taken care of and enjoyed....He doubled his investment just by what he sold the Recaro seats for...I don't know what hurt worse.
I will start a restoration soon I hope...I did buy tons and tons of everything needed while deployed- and unmarried Lol...I really want to do it right, and all at once..I am a single father to a 9 yr old girl, but being wounded means I don't have to work and really don't have any excuses.....Glad I found this channel...

    The benefits of inside storage.
I have an '89 GT I've owned since 1990 that hasn't been on the road since 2002. It was run seldom until 2006 where it sat until 2018 untouched outside.
Took a new tank and pump to get it running and I'm in the process of getting back to its former glory.

Nice car 👍🏻. Mine sat for about 8 years. Just recharged the AC and all was good. The AC on these cars are pretty dependable. Unless someone removes the compressor and lines believing they are going to gain 2 seconds in the quarter mile lol.

Was never a huge fan of the 4 eyes but that is beautiful, color and condition make a huge difference I guess. Actually I think I like the interiors better than 87 up, they look more retro racy or something.

Just caught your video on the ‘86 GT. Sitting in my garage next to a ‘26 Ford T Roadster and a ‘30 Model A coupe , both fully restored to original condition, is the first brand new car I ever bought. A completely stock and original 1986 Mustang GT that has just turned over 9,000 miles from new. I ordered the car in March 1986, and picked it up at the dealer in June of that year. It has quite literally never been driven on a wet road or subjected to any inclement weather. I ordered it with a five speed stick, AC, power windows and a sunroof (not T-tops). It’s the same color combination as yours. Hemmings Classic Car magazine did a feature article on it in their June 2013 issue. Google “Matchless Mustang to find the article. They’re still out there. Good luck with yours! (By the way, I had to do the same thing to my map pocket). 👍🏻
