There's definitely a shortage of musical spoons tutorials on YT. It would be greatly received if you of all spoon players were to create a couple instructional videos. Thank you for this, this simple little video right here clarifies something I wasn't sure about.

Reg H My late dad played the spoons too, I think he learned in prisoner of war camp WW2. I wish I took more notice of him. I’m guessing they wanted to make music and all they had were spoons! Very creative way to amuse yourself and others. Wow Abby is a true artist ♥️

Abby, you are a awesome lady ! If more people would take a step back in time and play some music , it would be great. I remember as a child as long as someone could play a guitar or something , there was always fun and laughter. People enjoyed hanging out and spending time together. God bless
My grandmother used to play the spoons. She used to tape the handles together then bend the spoon parts so they were separated a little. That's the way she was thought, and that's the way I play them. Every time I see somebody or I'm playing them, I always remember sitting around with her and the family, singing songs and playing the spoons

You're right, they aren't made FOR music but they sure are made by music! Can't tell me that a good set of "broken in" spoons play better than new "off the shelf" spoons. Those instruments were spoons and by the love of music and rhythm, they are now musical instruments! BTW, I couldn't eat soup with those 😂🤣😍🤣 Almost like using a laddle

I've been trapped in hotels, traveling away from family for work for about 9 mo. (since the who covid thing kicked off) and found my self spiraling through youtube a while back, 'learning to play the spoons'. Somehow I never landed on your content till today but you just fixed what probably 4-8 other 'instructors' had me doing in a wildly uncomfortable manner. (top spoon, where you had it, 2nd spoon 1 finger down). Thank you!

Love it ,my mom played the spoons a few times when I was a kid . Asked why she didn't play all the time , said people aren't interested in it anymore 😕 this was back in the 1960's
That’s all there is to it - the rest is up to your body flow. Best “how to play spoons” instructional video ever recorded. That’s how I was taught to play: “Hold the bottom one right and let the top one do the talking.” Love you Abby - so glad you are a human that exists.

I grew up in a verry musical family and my dad could play anything that makes music including spoons though hese biggest love was a guitar.. man he could make a guitar talk lol..but one night he grabbed two table spoons and made the most amazing beat wid em I've never agen seen till this mam.. ur amazing and much respect 😉👍

That's from playing.. eventually the bottom spoon breaks. It either cracks or the whole bulb falls off, then I place the top spoon on the bottom and replace the top. :)

Thank you. I was holding the bottom one between my middle finger and my pointer finger, and the top between my pointer and thumb, thus causing me to hold the top too tightly, and it was painful to play that way. I'm using your technique of grip now. Sounds so much better.

I've been watchin u for a while and keep sharring and telling ppl. I've not been able to play an instrument but it has always been a dream. I sing while my husband plays guitar. 3 yrs ago i had to have my vocal cords scraped so now I'm not always sure wat sound will come out...lol. I've started to play spoons and love it! Because of you!
