  • NEW Cedar Post Wrapping video here: • How to Wrap Posts in C...
    If you're looking to improve the curb appeal on your house, then you've come to the right video because this will show you how to wrap two cedar posts for less than $100.
    This was by far the biggest improvement to the front of the house and it really makes this stand out from the rest of the houses in the neighborhood, just by adding cedar wood.
    It's really as easy as cutting the wood planks to the same height as the posts you currently have, then applying those boards to 2 sides. Then cut a 4x4 piece of wood into 4 even pieces of 1" thick to apply to the other 2 sides of the posts. Now when you go to nail in the other cedar boards, they'll rest flush with the other boards.
    Easy!
    Make a matching mailbox to go with it: • Building a Cedar Mailb...
    You can use any cedar wood sealer you'd like, they come in many different colors.
    Thank you for watching another Kelly Concepts video!

    Well done, just fyi for others looking to do the same. If there’s any chance of water splashing on the bottom. Leave your columns off the ground an inch or two, then use the wrapped trim pieces to go to the ground. If they start to weather, you can just replace the trim.

    I am having this done to three front posts next week. I am going to stain them before the carpenter puts them up though.
    I applied stain first 15 yrs ago, when I had five posts rewrapped in cedar, on my back cedar 20x20 patio. I put two coats on, and it lasted a long time ... so worth doing it before cut and hang.
    Also, he mentioned he's going to put some kind of metal at the bottom of wood, at the cement,... on the bottom of the post, to prevent rotting. I can find out and edit my post on exactly what that's called.... once it's done.
    Cedar is gorgeous on a home today. Thanks for the stimulus $ Biden😉 $2800 goes a long way on home fixes.

    The posts look great! Wonderful idea! I love the new video cuts you are using. More and more professional each time! Question about the outer post. It appeared as if the cedar protruded beyond a bit. Did you happen to use anything to prevent water from landing on the top of the boards and dripping inside? When are you purchasing a second rental home? Cant wait to see what you do with that one?

    • @KellyConcepts
      @KellyConcepts  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there! 2" will be plenty long enough and is what I used. I did end up hammering in 2 extra larger galvanized nails in each board. like 6D or 8D nails. 1 toward the top and 1 towards the bottom (not too close to the edge or you'll split the wood). Might be overkill but weatherproof nails will help this last much longer.

      I live in Michigan near Detroit and would say probably not without reinforcing joints with waterproof glue and either a spline or bisquits. I also hope this couple have figured out PPE ... I can't tell you how many people I know have a nail hit something and go somewhere other than intended. Noone ever thinks it will happen to them, safety glasses to me are a minimum, I put them on just like work clothes.

    If I had gaps like those on the box joints, or those bad miters, my wife would have me do it over. Not real good on the fit.

    Great job, but don't you need to encase posts at the top so birds don't build nests there?
