As part of the introduction to White House correspondents' dinner, the television series The West Wing showed a video parodying the White House, the press corps, and the series.
Are we just not gonna talk about how the bike courier casually strolling into the white house, dropping off a big bag money and then leaving is the objectively funniest thing anyone has ever came up with in a skit? 2:12
"If you spent a year and half of your life on a jungle island with Francis Ford Coppola and Marlin Brando, we'd cut you some slack." They forgot to add "and had a heart attack".
@@nishantgilatar He did. Damn near killed him. Convinced him to lay off the booze. That scene in the hotel room where he did the crazy dance - he was totally shit faced. He wasn't acting; he was acting out.
My god, this is like Inception. The West Wing show, within a parody west wing clip, within the actors playing in the west wing. And Martin Sheen staring at the glass ornaments....into a soliloquy...cue the music!
More like Tropic Thunder. It’s Robert Downey Jr, playing Kirk Lazarus, who is playing Staff Sergeant Lincoln Osiris. Just a dude, playing a dude, playing another due.
When she said the president had never even heard of the show, I was like "How can he not? Wait, which president is she talking about?" And then I checked the date, and I was like "Okay, maybe he hasn't heard of it".
Massive West Wing fan. Watched it all the way through probably 5 times, and rewatch my favorites often on top of that. Got through near the entire nightmare of Trump and a Pandemic before seeing this. I must submit my complaint to the CZcams algorithm. You have failed me!
My son in law is a massive fan and every Christmas out comes the West Wing………we all love it…fabulous…not a weak character…..I sometimes think if Martin Sheen had run for President he would have won hands down!
After every time I hear Trump's press conference on T.V., I have to watch a snippet from West wing to stop my head spinning. I need the fiction to reduce the suffering inflicted by reality.
I, like everyone else here, wonders how the hell this video slipped through the cracks of all the West Wing videos that are on CZcams? Almost 2.5 years it has been uploaded and I am just seeing this now in April 2019. What gives CZcams !@#$ass algorithm??? >:-(
Interestingly the theme that plays right at the end is from the film “dave” a Kevin Kline film where an Everyman who is a double for a sick president actually takes over the job and makes government changes.
As the world awaits the November 3 elections after nearly four years of living the nightmare (albeit as a Canadian) I found the show within the show so moving I shed some tears. West Wing, though often very idealistic in its portrayal of public service, is still one of my favorites.
The show was called too liberal by a lot of people at the time, they also said it was too idealistic and optimistic about politics and politicians. Them saying that Al Gore thinks the show is "too liberal" is a tongue-in-cheek way to reference that.
And now, we have trump getting his butt kicked at the WH correspondent's dinner, while he is not there. Which was more boring, The dinner, or Harrisburg ?
Theo Lamp To be fair, the dinner is quite overrated and nothing more than asskissing. Trump's rally with supporters was a bit of a coup that, as much as I hate Trump, was wise
Presumed Innocent starring Harrison Fold. Spencer played a PI friend who actually is the key to the outcome of the trial. Good murder mystery and court movie and twist ending. Go rent it!
I know he's out of character, I was just surprised to see what looks like Charlie saying that. Also the thing with the wall was done with class. That was very Charlie, as he was making sure that kid was respectful.
He says www.DanQuayle/MurphyBrown. It’s a joke referencing when Dan Quayle went after the show Murphy Brown for her character having a baby out of wedlock. It caused an uproar, and then the show turned it into a storyline and mocked Dan Quayle.
Taylor 9009 ah ok, thanks, I guess that’s just one of the problems I have getting into a show 20 years after release. Not really catching some of these references
How is it possible to be stilted in your acting when you are literally playing yourself, a person that spends their life in front of a camera? Emote, Joe. Emote. Sigh. This country is going to hell.
Because he is not a trained actor? Most people come across that way, especially when they are having to perform scenes side-by-side with some of the greatest actors. Very daunting. Press secretaries are chosen for communication abilities and being able to think on their feet, not for acting ability.
This must be the highest production value C-SPAN has ever seen.
I love how they snuck into this skit how Martin Sheen is terrible with names, both in the show and real life. Hilarious.
"Bill Haley."
"Will Bailey."
"Whatever."
Are we just not gonna talk about how the bike courier casually strolling into the white house, dropping off a big bag money and then leaving is the objectively funniest thing anyone has ever came up with in a skit? 2:12
17 years and I'm only seeing this now!
Agreed, I watched all the episodes, and caught most of the correspondent's dinners. Never caught this.
18 years for me!
almost 19 years for me
20 years for me, where did they hide it, was it in the actual WHCD broadcast?
@@ArgonTheAware Right there with you. I never knew this existed.

@@nishantgilatar He did. Damn near killed him. Convinced him to lay off the booze. That scene in the hotel room where he did the crazy dance - he was totally shit faced. He wasn't acting; he was acting out.
What about stewart lee, going on about jungle rope bridges. Lol
Ok, joke is on me.
Yeah. That was my favorite line.

Ro G MS playing his character from Appocalypse Now🤣🤣🤣
When I saw the movie Inception in the theaters, I fell asleep and had a dream about the movie Inception.
it was brilliant

In real life this room doesn’t exist. CRASH! In real life that would’ve hurt. Love the concept, love the lines, love the execution! :-)
As a huge fan of this show this was a treat to watch.
I am the biggest fan of this show and have never seen this clip before! Thank you for posting it!
Didn't know this existed! Thanks West Wing Weekly!!!
What episode was this mentioned on?
Here after the WW podcast and I am in tears 😂. ‘I won’t give them that satisfaction’ 😂😂
What episode of the podcast are you talking about?🙈

Likewise
I’m faaar behind apparently, not on the rewatches though!
Me, too.
My son in law is a massive fan and every Christmas out comes the West Wing………we all love it…fabulous…not a weak character…..I sometimes think if Martin Sheen had run for President he would have won hands down!
Trump is the best President we have had in decades and was never a nightmare. The nightmare is what we have going on today.
John Spencer is the peak of this.
This is the meta thing I’ve ever seen in my life and I love it
After every time I hear Trump's press conference on T.V., I have to watch a snippet from West wing to stop my head spinning.
I need the fiction to reduce the suffering inflicted by reality.
Amen.
Yessir
But Trump never had the courage to go to the WHCD, he was terribly insecure about people laughing at him
Look up the 2011 WHCD
LMAO they were always walking fast in the hallways😂
Nice Murphy Brown burn!
I'd never even heard of this before seeing it just now. I bet this is the visit that many real-life WH staffers would have liked to have made!
Why did I not know of this!! Just adding to my love of West Wing!
21 years later ... oh, if we had only known.

Trump was the best thing to happen to this country in decades, the Biden administration is giving object lessons on that topic.

Fabulous ..thanks!!
Just seeing this now! Brilliant.
Mr. Sheen is my son got me.
It's not true, though. His sons are Mr. Estevez and Charlie.
How am I just seeing this now after all these years???
"i'll kick his ass Allison " funny stuff
And even then, no Mandy.
That's outstanding work, it's been hidden in a vault way too long. Thank-you for sharing LOL. ;-D
I feel sorry for whoever follows That.
it is funny isnt it. To a west Wing fan it is hilarious!!!!
Can't believe I never saw this!
This is glorious.
It's Red Nose day across the pond! Brilliant!!

Was that Presumed Innocent on the tv John Spencer was watching?
How great is that?
LMAO!!!! This is awesome!
This is funny as Hell!!!
"That made a lot of sense to me."
"Really?"
😆
How come this is the first time I’m seeing this?
Bravo!
Nice!!

My brain is so confused right now...
Ok. Good stuff.
How does Al Gore think something is "too liberal"?
The show was called too liberal by a lot of people at the time, they also said it was too idealistic and optimistic about politics and politicians. Them saying that Al Gore thinks the show is "too liberal" is a tongue-in-cheek way to reference that.
JJF Rants I
Because Al Gore is a corrupt, centrist, elitist weasel?
I think it was sarcasm.
Me as a European still waiting to find a libiral American.
Wow I was only 4 when this was made

That's very nice. I'm quite a fanatic for TWW but i never saw this clip. And please, could anybody tell me who is "Jo/Joe"? Bush Press Secretary?
Clinton Press Sec. This is during the Clinton Era

What was the movie Leo was watching, it was him in another movie, but what movie?
The Fugitive maybe?
Presumed Innocent

I agree with Vice President Gore.
Why did they use the theme from the movie "Dave" at the end?
That was really Kevin Kline, playing Martin Sheen.
Who's Lillian?
That's so un-Charlie.
It's Dulé not Charlie
There was an episode where Charlie jacked a gangster wannabe up to the wall for disrespecting CJ . But in general I take your point
I know he's out of character, I was just surprised to see what looks like Charlie saying that. Also the thing with the wall was done with class. That was very Charlie, as he was making sure that kid was respectful.
