At last,I have finally found a complete demonstration of how to construct these type of bows!I will be giving it a try soon!My only "criticism" is that it would have been a lot clearer to see if coloured icing had been used, white is a bit bright and glaring.Thank you x

I think this is a very good idea for assembling this bow. Much better than trying to put the bow loops in a ball of fondant or gumpaste. They break so easily. I like the idea of assembling the bow on a circle of gumpaste. Thank you for the very helpful and informative tutorial.

@thecakelover74 @thecakelover74 Thanks for the suggestion, but white fondant and icing were used so they would contrast most with the blue background.

@adorahtho No, you dry it on the drying rack. Putting it in the refrigerator can actually soften it by creating condensation on it upon removal.

I started like many decorators--to do my sons birthday cakes. I sure wish there was as much information available then as there is now. :)

Thank you so much for your help on this. I made a few bows for cakes today and your help was invaluable. I even made myself a little bow drying rack. :)

You may want to let the bow loops dry longer--up to a couple of days--especially if your loops are thicker. And if the weather is humid, gum paste and fondant tend to absorb moisture from the air.

@davidelij The widest area of the zigzag is approx. 3/4".

Try letting them dry 2-3 days. The bases of the bows are twice as thick so take longer to dry than thinner areas so that may be why they're breaking.

Gum-Tex is a gum powder--perhaps you mean Gum paste (pliable sugar dough). If you mean can you mix gum paste and fondant, yes, that's mentioned 36 seconds in the video. Luster dust does not dry the fondant near as much as corn starch.

Gum paste should work fine. It starts drying a little quicker than fondant, but not by much. They're about 1/16".

I made my own but tonight will be using a commercial product... I was thinking of going with just the wilton gumpaste ... is it easier to use the 50/50 or gumpaste ? Also how thin are you rolling these out?? thank you so much for your help!

After you were done making the bow, did you have to refrigerate it for a few hours for the icing to harden before putting it on the cake?

It sounds like your fondant is too soft. Are you making your own or using a commercial brand?

I just had a couple of questions, the first bow strips I made out of fondant came out fine, as soon as I hung them the began to tare off the drying rack and some didn't stay together when 'glued' with the water, this was just fondant mixture, is there something I can correct? I also tried to make the 50/50 mixture and I'm not sure if its because I had it sit (airtight and wrapped of course) but it started to harden and it was unusable. Tonight Im going to use straight gum paste any tips TY

thanks so much for sharing! I had a quick question. How wide are the strips or if you used the spacer on the rolling cutter? It looks like it could be maybe 3/4 of an inch? Thanks!

My husband made me the rack to make bows. Thank you! Also, my bow turned out beautiful, but the problem I had was transferring the bow to my cake, it fell apart. I used gum paste and left it out over night. Any suggestions,

I'm making my daughter's birthday cake for this weekend... Can I use half Gum-Tex (by Wilton) and half Fondant (Satin Ice)? The first set of bow, some cracked and was not repairable. I've heard that using cornstarch could potentially dry out the fondant, will using lust dust dry out fondant? Thank you for your help in advance

  • @CakeSuppliesPlus

How easy is the bow to move once you have attached it to the cutting mat with the icing?

    • @CakeSuppliesPlus
      @CakeSuppliesPlus  Před 10 lety +1

You would typcally assemble the bow on the cake, but you can cut a gum paste circle when making the loops and assemble the bow on this circle and position it later.
