There once was wonderful Old May and her friendly half Collie, half Labrador who lived in The Cottage at the bottom end of Squires' Lane in King's Clipstone until the late Seventies who lives on in my memory thanks to dear Joyce.
That reminds me of some of the ladies who used to attend the OAP clubs that my grandma used to organise. I'd go and help when I was young, and there would be ladies talking to each other just like this...the only problem was, nobody ever listened, just talked, so the noise was deafening!
Yes, I don't like the mockery aspect of this. Can't watch it all. I used to like her when I was young, but now I see elements of almost malice in her portrayals of those she sees as her social inferiors.
:D -im trying to find a sketch where she plays this self-educated African. It's a very interesting delivery. She speaks in rhythmic prose and she recites it along with a clapping rhythm on her knees. I remember the lines '...through books....i'm making discovery'. 'making discovery' is the final line. Maybe it's a bit politically undesirable now,but i haven't seen it since i was 8 and i'd like to watch it again so i could make my mind up about that. I think she wore the dark green velvet dress??
@@heatherpryde6754 The very best recreation was by Carol Knight who toured a one woman show of Joyce Grenfell songs and monologues. Somehow she made you feel you were seeing them for the very first time. Wonderful evening.
COULD anyone be more BRILLIANT? One of a truly MARVELLOUS kind!!!
"A cruise for two to Madieria, there and back!" Classic Joyce, love it.
Each word, each expression, is just perfection
There is nobody to compare to Joyce. Truly unique and irreplaceable.
'Well they could make you go, couldn't they?' Marvellous.

Absolutely brilliant.

Ah yes, the good old W.I.
Just love this lady.
Bravo Mrs Moss, You've Won a Lovely Rabbit. And then that look!!! Cracks me up
every time :))
As with most things in the UK "they don't make 'em like they used to"!
She is a genius in comedy.
Awesome talent !
love it.. thank you Joyce.
Just wonderful. And if she had delivered it in a broad east end accent, it would have been my grandmother.
A true artist and product of her time.
It's such a gentle sort of comedy, and the expressions and inflections are rather brilliant.
She made every character come to life with not much in the way of props. No one to compare to her now.
"Well, Scully, turns out that it wasn't aliens who left a rabbit in my car."
GENIUS!
"I'm not going to vote for them next time, whoever they are." The British view of politics in a nutshell.
No one ever like Joyce.
Unique talent 🥰🥰🥰
Joyce Grenfell was a lady of many characters, like Peter Sellers, great stuff!
We have fabulous brave female comedians along with the blokes who are also fab
Brilliant!
"I told ya, dint l? I told 'er."
She was lovely. He humour lasts.😂
I'd enjoy it more if it didn't remind me of someone I know and love.

It's called Nicodemus. Amazon sell it as a MP3 for 89p.

If they ever did a remake of Joyce's sketches the only person it could is Miranda Hart she would be great
Maureen Lipman did a stage show (with Joyce's family blessing) called Re:Joyce. You can get it on dvd

The most unacceptable are our French 'cousins' and their jokes against the 'Belges' et cetera. Mostly, Paris ...
