The Soccer Battle of Missouri is back in the MLS for the last time in this season, but this time in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. Also, my mistake that Sporting KC is actually in KCK, not KCMO, although their offices are in Downtown KCMO.
The Wizards (Pre- Sporting KC name) were from KCMO and KCK, our stadium got built in KCK after playing in Arrowhead Stadium (home of the chiefs and located in KCMO) and then Legends Field (home of the KC Monarchs and located in KCK). We are Sporting Kansas City without a distinction for a reason, as everyone within like a 30-50 mile diameter considers themselves a Kansas Citian, and we have been repping both sides of the state line since the early 2000s. Hence our "Two states one team" motto. It's oftentimes a hard one for people that don't know the MLS lore or history of the team to comprehend, but a vast portion of the population of both states (outside a few other cities) lies on the state line of Kansas and Missouri. We share teams in many sports!
You're technically not mistaken, but we do play on the Kansas side since our stadium opened. Love the rivalry too. I thought it would take more time to build, but nope! Here they are playing each other in the playoffs.

@@RyanHorseHelmetI attended Wizards matches almost religiously at Arrowhead; part of a group of "Domeys" who had a standard spot in the grass area between the road, and the parking lot SE of the stadium and tailgated at nearly every match, and was looking forward to the new stadium being built at the old Bannister Mall site,
but then crooked politics, and vulture capitalism led to the misuse of revenue bonds that were supposed to be earmarked for urban renewal lured the team across the state line by one of the parasitic bedroom communities who entice business to abandon the city's core.
To make matters worse, the abandoning of Swope Soccer Village by the Swope Park Rangers, now rebranded as SKC-II on the absurd pretense of lack of seating strengthened my resolve.
I still follow the team, but despite having played, coached, refereed, and raised collegiate soccer players, I will NEVER step food in "Livestrong" . . . oh, I mean Children's Mercy Park.

Did anyone know that the St Louis stadium might be using fake fan noise? During the 2nd half you could hear the crowd chanting and pumping and being loud but all the crowd shots (even the supporters section) showed fans just standing still motionless.

One thing I noticed from watching all the MLS playoff highlights, all the stadiums were packed and rockin except one, NY Red Bulls.
Red Bulls stadium also has way more capacity than some some of these newer stadiums.

The place seats at 25k which is pretty on par with an average soccer specific stadium. And they don't even get to 20k on average most years. They'd sell out like one building across the league in terms of size relative to attendance.

Not the best time of the year to play your worst soccer of the year, but then again, St. Louis was only .500 after their 5-0 start. I don't think they're overrated as they earned that top spot, but their flaws are and have been more easily exposed in the last month or two.
The only reason they finished first in the Western Conference is because that Conference has been weaker this year compared to the East.
Maybe, but St. Louis handled Cincy fairly easily early in the year. Like I said, teams have caught on a bit more to them, especially since the start of September. I still think they can come back on KC, but it's going to be tough.
@@Bean1227 , that game against Cincinnati definitely wasn't a good measuring strength based on the fact that both teams had several key players out especially the road team. Also anyone that's been following MLS for years knows that early season results doesn't nearly have the same impact as the last ten games. I think that SKC is going to finish the deal Sunday.

Sporting KC is actually located in Kansas, so technically not a cross state rival as the commentators keep claiming. Though Kansas City Missouri is right next to Kansas City, Kansas.
They did say it was a state border and 260 miles away
Sporting's HQ, training ground, and most of its fan base is on the Missouri side. So the game may be played on the Kansas side. But most of the rivalry is in-state.
They began on the Missouri side as the KC Wizards. They really goofed up building the stadium in the middle of nowhere, Kansas. They should have built in downtown KCMO, where the new women's stadium is being built.
