Like McEnroe, Scanlon was a brat but he had far more character and less athletic ability than McEnroe.....of which both very much annoyed McEnroe. Not to mention Scanlon beat Mac 3 of 12 times and had several other very close matches.
@@Arturo-sm1tb IIRC, I believe Scanlon upset Ilie Nastaste a couple times early on in his career which made a name for him before this upset! He had many others over top players including Borg & Lendl without taking any significant tournaments!! ;-)
Chris somewhere I read Mac just said they used to be cool then not so much. He complimented Scanlon's game and said he must have security issues or something because he had mad game. He clearly did. A thinking man's player, total tactician

Scanlon had a better Juniors record than Mac, then when the hit the pros he was forgotten. This match as payback and bitter sweet...
