Great match, a real classic. One of the most memorable matches between Arantxa and Steffi, between 94USO-96FO they really pulled out great encounters.

Seles- Graf, Sanchez-Graf were the best matches. If Sanchez-Vicario hit more her forehand trough, she had won more grandslams.

      Also Sabatini-Graf matches between 1988-1993 H2H 13-11lol

Great result for ASV. 6th of 8 titles won that year and third career grand slam.

The computer system was obviously flawed back then as I examined it and Sanchez had MUCH better slam results overall, and Graf was only marginally ahead in tournament wins, W-L record, so there is no real explanation I can see that Graf should have been ahead on the computer at years end. And she must have been well ahead considering she skipped the Australian Open where she was defending Champ, lost all those points, and Sanchez despite keeping her finals points still didn't take #1 yet.
Shame on the flawed computer system that didn't have Sanchez ranked #1 somehow, and the WTA for not naming Sanchez as Player of the Year as the ITF rightly did. Graf even admited Sanchez was the real #1 by years end, and called her year a dissapointment, but not to the computer. Dumb Selestials are wrong that Seles was the real #1 of 1990, that was all Graf. And Navratilova fans for 87 are also dumb, granted like 94 Navratilova did win 1 more slam than Graf and have better slam results overall, but in that case it was 12 tournament wins to a mere 4, so still no. However 94 Sanchez was actually the real #1.

@@grantgoffin4774 agree however Steffi’s titles that year were mostly Tier 1’s . In fact she won 4 big titles along with the Australian Open which kept her at number 1. ASV won 1 tier 1 title only . The other 5 were Tier 2 level .

@@CJJAK37 Thanks. I was looking by todays standards were both fell under Premier and had a similar number of Premier ratio titles.
Even so I still think the points should have gone in Sanchez's favor and there obviously should have been more allotment in points to slams than there was but it is closer than I thought before.
I do think Steffi definitely should have been #1 over Martina in 87 despite Martina with 1 more slam win and 1 more slam final, but that is a far more exteme different in other results.

@@grantgoffin4774 ah yep ok. Understand your logic now .
Yes Graf definitely was 1 in 87.

Was that the crowd booing when the interviewer asked Steffi if she lost because of her back?

Yeah, I think they wanted it to be known that Arantxa had won because she played a great match rather than because of Steffi's injury.

Probably the Best Handshake ever from Graf losing a GS final lol

She liked Sanchez. She didn't like Seles or Navratilova (understandable as both ladies are giant bitches, Navratilova is the biggest douchebag ever in the sport besides Connors). She liked Sabatini, but she always had a superiority complex when it came to Gaby.
