MABON RECIPE | Veggie-filled Cornucopia | Celebrating the Autumn Equinox

- Mabon, the festival of harvest of the fruits, is quickly approaching on the pagan wheel of the year (/Wiccan wheel of year) and with it another reason to celebrate the abundance and blessings that mother nature has granted us over the year. The autumnal equinox, also called Harvest home is a time to reap rewards of efforts that we have sown throughout the year, it also stresses the importance of being grateful and sharing our gifts to ensure blessings in the following year. In essence, it is a feast of thanksgiving and today I would love to share an amazing recipe with you (well, actually three) that with its symbolism fits this celebration like a glove. We will be making an autumnal vegetable-filled filled cornucopia with bacon, cheese, and apricot sauce! A wonderful centerpiece for your Mabon table or, also a great festive dish to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner. The great thing about it is that this recipe is basically vegan (well, except the sauce) so it can easily serve as a fancy main for your vegetarian and vegan friends. Of course, you can also fill the horn with other things, like fruits, cheese, nuts, meat stews, candy, flowers or make a sweet filling with cooked apples, raisins, and vanilla sauce.
By the way, if you don’t like baking much - there is a cheat version of this: you can just use store-bought frozen breadstick dough instead of making it from scratch. But here, at the witches' cookery, we are a bit old school so let's get our hands dirty!
Ingredients Cornucopia (makes enough for one big cornucopia, and a small one for your friendly neighbors)
x 2 cups warm water
x ¼ cup sugar
x 6 cups flour
x 14g dry active yeast
X 1/2 cup oil
x 1 egg (Vegan option: some coconut oil)
Ingredients Cheese & Apricot dip
x 100g diced bacon
x 1 small onion
x ½ cup apricot preserve
x 1/3 cup walnuts (/pecans/cashew nuts)
x 200g processed cheese
x 150 g soft cheese of choice
x 1/3 cup sour cream
x Some chili
x Smoked paprika powder
x Garlic powder
x Salt & pepper
Oven-roasted Autumn Veggies
x Veggies of the season
(bell pepper, potatoes, pumpkin, onions, carrots, mushrooms, etc.)
x Some oil or butter
x Spices & herbs
x A bit of fresh lemon juice

I will definitely plan on making this for Mabon this year! How wonderful!
I made this cornucopia as a trial run for Thanksgiving. I filmed it and plan to share the video on CZcams in a couple of weeks - with a link to your channel of course. I enjoy your channel so much, I know others will too. Thank you for the inspiration!
Tahini sauce is also excellent with roasted root vegetables, especially beets. Another vegetarian/ vegan alternative. 🙂
I'm gonna do this for the canadian thanks giving. I'll collect some chicken of the woods mushrooms to use as I have access to that. there should be enough from my garden to make it very special. My garden did not do as well as I would have liked it to, but there were circumstances out of my control, like lockdowns that prevented my ability to obtain compost - my own compost was not ready - it is this year and as soon as I harvest, my beds will be tucked in with a new blanket of chicken and garden composts. But I did get potatoes, parsnips and carrots as well as a variety of squash and pumpkins. Next year I plan to bless my garden with a smudge stick made from herbs from the garden. wish I had found you sooner, your craft aligns much with mine. you are a beautiful human being, inside and out.
That's beautiful! Thank you for including vegan alternatives.
Thank you! I will definitely try to include vegan alternatives more often ☺️🌻
Fantastic- looks so tasty! Anda great centrepiece for the table.
Thank you! I cannot wait to make it for this year's Mabon festivities again!! 🌻🧡☀️✨🍁🌽🍠
This looks amazing! I love this idea and will definitely be making this at Mabon - I am in the southern hemisphere so that won't be for a while 🙂
Thank you 💚 It tasted soooo good! If you don´t want to wait that long, I imagine it would also serve great as a container for a fresh spring salad or some decorated eggs for Ostara 😄
@@Thewitchescookery ohhh I like that idea. I hadn't decided on what I want to do for my own Ostara celebration yet!
Wow lovely
Thank you ❤️
Was going through your videos and this video practly jumped at me. Mabon is coming soon for me and this recipe is one I have to try! Thank you for sharing this recipe with us, blessed be❤💋
Oh My Goddess girl!!! When I saw you post this on IG I immediately thought... I wonder if I can use Pillsbury Crescent rolls to cheat this heehee, so I totally had a chuckle when you mentioned a cheat version :P That sauce!!! GIRRRLLLLL!!! Marry me LOL!! It looks so damn yum! I loved the Hansel and Gretel joke LOL, you have the most unique and charming sense of humour ever! You are a true joy and treat to welcome into our lives with every video you craft, thank you so much for these!! - Oh almost forgot, I am going to see if I can make it work with pilsbury .... I am making turkey legs with stuffing and I like to add apples and nuts to the stuffing... maybe I can do a sweet potatoe almonds and cranberry roast for the horns... if I get them to turn out heehee
Haha yeah! Here we don't have premade breadstick dough in the supermarkets so we have to do it old school unfortunately 😄 as I am not legally taken yet, I might consider your proposal hahaha but first I will need to taste those stuffed turkey legs 😜 btw, that menu you have planned sounds absolutely perfect 🤤🤤🤤
Amazing 😍😍 thank you for sharing
I hope I success make it for Mabon. It's seen delicious and is a good idea. Thanks. 🌻🌻🌻
This looks beautiful and very tasty.
Thanks so much - it was yummy indeed 😄🧡

ThanX BeX! 😊In recent years my HubbY and I have become empty nesters and with the pandemic we’ve had the dilemma of what to eat on thanksgiving as it’s just us and we don’t eat that much meat anymore for various reasons and the tofurkey didn’t go over too well one year when we tried iT 🙄 ThiS BeautifuL feast you prepared herE I think would just hiT the spoT! 💕
This looks so delicious, I'm feeling very inspired (and hungry!)
hihi glad to hear that!
Stunning!! Will be making this cornucopia for sure!
Thanks ♥️ oh so glad to hear that you will be making it! Would love to see it (if you have IG) ☺️
It is gorgeous!
Thank you ☺️💚
Sieht so dekorativ und lecker aus!
Die Machart erinnert an Prügelkrapfen bzw. Kurtöskalacs. Mmmmhhhh!
War auch sehr lecker! 😄 Oooh das stimmt, eventuell muss ich Mal eine süße Variante probieren
Yummmmy!!!!🙌🏻💯💚
Ohhhh it wassss - I need to make this again hihi but first, I need to come up with something ridiculously fancy for Ostara :D
Fantastic idea.
☺️🧡
I am doing this. Thanks
Amazing! Would love to hear how you liked it ☺️
This is so stunning and looks absolutely scrumptious! Merry mabon! Blessed be🧡
Beautiful as always, Bex!
Thanks so much, lovely! And have a wonderful Mabon 🧡🍎
Gorgeous recipe. I have written down the ingredients from description box but will have to watch this video again sometime in the future for the process - especially the cornucopia part. Love the veggies - looking for ways to add more veggies to our diet and might give this a go. You make all recipes look easy. I also have to keep reminding myself that in Australia we call Bell peppers - Capsicum!
Oh I never knew you called them by the botanical name - that is really interesting! In Germany we call them Paprika. The recipe is really not too difficult once you have the cornucopia crafted 😄 I do hope you will enjoy it and it is definitely a great way to make veggies look more tempting hihi
Oh... my.... GAWD!!! 😍😍😍 Will do this and post your link on my page! I'm vegan and I know my followers will LOVE this!
Oh I am so happy to hear that ☺️💚 and thank you for sharing - what is your page? I would love to check it out
@@Thewitchescookery thanks 😊
Such a pretty cornucopia - I could never make something like that, am so impressed
Thank you 💚 and I am convinced that is not true! It really is quite simple - it only looks impressive 😄
I really love the this idea of an edible cornucopia, you could replace a turkey with this as the main event of a feast.
Absolutely agree! It would make a perfect centerpiece of a vegetarian feast table!! 🧡🌻
Looks so nice
Thank you! 💚
Happy Alban Elfed
A wonderful autumnal equinox to you too 💚☺️
Me ha encantado. Espectacular tu presentación!!!.
Gracias 😘😘♥️
Yummi
Oh I have to make this again 🤤
Old school is always better!!! Rebekka I am completely stunned and in awe of this cooking creation, your Veggie Filled Cornucopia is something extraordinary, the likes of which I have never seen before and oh my the dip/sauce with apricot, bacon and cheese😋...Wonderful looking dough too!
Isn't it? 😄 Ahhh thanks for the lovely compliments! It was really fun to make and the Paddy Joe inspired sauce was amazballs 😂🙌🙌
You are very talented. Thank you for sharing this! Happy Autumnal equinox and blessed be!
Thank you so much 💚 I am wishing you a wonderful autumnal equinox too! ☺️
What a masterpiece of creativity! I can’t wait to try this at home. All of your videos are so wonderful, especially with the calmness that you infuse with your lovely voice into each one. ❤️
I definitely will try my hand at this recipe this coming November for Thanksgiving.
My Mabon was already prepared before I got the opportunity to try it. So this November for Thanksgiving I will definitely be trying this one out
Simply beautiful and all edible! Thank you for sharing this ✨🍁🌰🍂✨
Thanks so much ❤️ glad you enjoyed it ☺️🍁🍂🕯️🦋
Wonderful! It is a tasteful easy-making dough. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂
I am so pleased you enjoyed it! :)
This is absolutely amazing! I will do this for Mabon this year 😍
Ty
☺️
😍 Such a beautiful video AND a delicious recipe. Perfect 🌸
Thank you! So glad you like it ☺️ I figured the vegan alternative was something you might enjoy 🌱
@@Thewitchescookery I do! Thank you for that by the by. I really appreciate the effort
Loved this recipe! Perfect for Mabon :)
So glad you enjoy it! I thought so too 🤤🍎🍐
Oh la la!!!! Bex!!! This recipe is amazing!!! It is truly a centrepiece for a feast! I love the creativity of this recipe and the numerous uses of this cornucopia. You are such an inspiration! I am very excited for Mabon this year. It will also be my 10th year wedding anniversary, I have lots to celebrate and be thankful for. :-) And I just just realized you also made a comment on my video, thanks!
Thank you so much for this lovely comment ♥️ and congratulations on your upcoming wedding anniversary - what a beautiful time of the year to marry!! 🌻🍂 I looove pesto - so your video was perfect for me hahah
hehe my cornucopia foil looked like a whale, until i saw a closeup glimpse of yours. I just smooshed the "whale head" in at an angle and problem fixed! (:
🕯🙏🏻🧡
So lovely! What a wonderful idea, it looks delicious. 🧡😊
Thank you - it did taste delicious too 💚 I am super excited for your book - I actually wanted to get it last week but didn't get around to it yet
Wow you did amazing I love your bread making they come out so beautiful :) that cheese dip looked comforting :)
Thaaank you 💚 but you shouldn't be watching hahaha I don't want to ruin your amazing weight loss journey! Even though you could probably find a keto cheese sauce recipe 😄
@@Thewitchescookery lol no worries still inspired me to look up mabon foods I think I'm going to make apple crisps and chicken in the crock pot I get so excited for the sabbats
Saaame haha that sounds amazing too!!! 🤤
Simply beautiful. Perfect. I hope I have the skills. I want to try this out this year.
Thank you 💚 I am sure you have! 💪👨🏻🍳 If the yeast dough is too intimidating at first I highly recommend the premade frozen dough - super easy and mess-free 😄 would love to hear how you liked it!
The witches' cookery
I will let you know! I normally do a stuffed winter squash but my plants were destroyed by squash bugs this year, before I could get a squash to mature. I was left with 1 small butternut squash. So it will be perfect to cook with the filling.
@@aidanngreenwolfe200 oh no - that sucks! But at least you have one left! Stuffed butternut squash sounds amaaaazing though 🤤🤤🤤
Wow Rebecca this looks so delicious omg 😱😍🤩 I wish I could have it now without all the work hehe :'D I'm also excited for your Vlog next week 😃
Thaaaank you
@@Thewitchescookery oh that sounds beautiful!! I'm shure you get exactly the weather you need ☺️✨
I'd love to make this for Thanksgiving sometime! :)
I definitely think it will look absolutely lovely on a Thanksgiving table ☺️
I use my bread machine dough setting.
That should work great too! (Also: I want a bread machine soooo bad 😄)
😃
Wow! I’ve just followed a Fb link from the WotAC group, and I subscribed immediately! I LOVE this recipe, and a quick squizz through your other videos tells me that I’m going to be watching a whole lot more CZcams over the next few days/weeks/months! Where do you get the ideas for your recipes from? They all look amazing! 😍 Blessed be, and have a wonderful Mabon! 💜
Oh how lovely! Welcome on my channel 💚 so glad you enjoy the videos so far ☺️ the ideas usually start as a craving hahah and then I whip something up and perfection the recipe over time. Or I take inspiration from symbolism like with the cornucopia. Other times it's things that I do traditionally at certain times of the year as they are old family recipes (like the plum crumble or the elderflower fritters) ☺️ and some of my videos are adapted versions of video game recipes. Wishing you a wonderful Mabon 🌻💚🥧
Wow! Looks delicious! The cornucopia is so beautiful! Looks like something from a movie or a cookbook! :) I think I would like to try making this soon! Also, how long does it typically take you to make a video?
Thank you so much 💚 it looks fancy but is actually not too hard to do 😄 would love to hear how you liked it! the videos take aaages to film haha because I have to rearrange and change angles and stuff. So usually coming up with a recipe takes 1H, filming takes about 3H, writing the script 3-4H, editing 5-6H. So in total around 14H 😅 but I love it, so it feels like less
@@Thewitchescookery Yes I will let you know when I get around to making the cornucopia :) Amazing! Your videos are works of art :)
I was going to make this on Mabon but I have school and Mabon falls upon a Wednesday for me 😭😭
Personally I don't celebrate the holidays necessarily exactly on the date. Many of them do celebrate a season anyways so that gives one much more time to pick a day to properly celebrate and enjoy 🙂✨🥧
I'm allergic to eggs and coconut, any other suggestions ?
This looks so yummy.
Thank you 😊 yes, this would go perfect with pumpkin soup! When I made it we actually had a pumpkin coconut soup with spicy grilled prawns as a starter 🤤
@@Thewitchescookery Ooooh, the sound of that makes me drool. I just showed my mom this video a few minutes ago and she was drooling lol.
@@JariDawnchild ahaha I am glad I made your family hungry :D I guess now you have to go and cook it hehe
On the cornicopia recipe, how much oil did you add in with the flour and salt? It was not written in the recipe below?
Totally missed that! Thanks for letting me know 💚 it was half a cup 🙂
The witches' cookery no problem. That’s what I was going to do if I didn’t hear back. Lol. Blessed Mabon to you and your family
Wishing you and your family the same and hope you enjoy the Cornucopia 💚
i enjoyed the recipe, the only problem is that i do not like to use aluminum foil as it is not biodegradable, and therefore unkind to the environment, there must be another way to make the carnucopia shape
Saaaame!!! If you find an idea I would love to hear it ❤️❤️❤️
STUFF IT IN THE CORNUCOPIA
It looks so delicious!!!
Thank you 💚 it tasted delicious too! I will try in the future to make more suggestions in the description box for gluten-free / lactose-free options - I hope that will help ☺️🌻 have a happy Mabon!
@@Thewitchescookery my case with food is a little bit more complicated unfortunately but thankfully I have learned well how to modify stuff :) But I think including gluten free and lactose free options is a great idea anyway, it will sure be helpful to a lot of people :) hope you will have a beautiful mabon
