- The little car was stored under a barn for over 40 years. Amazingly enough it is very solid, with little rust to speak of. Has a less than 30K miles. I later found out that external oil filter canister was packed with rust. Since its a bypass filter, no harm was done. I've since found a COBRA tin block for it. Really haven't worked on it since the one time.
This was filmed during the cicada swarm this year. I'm sorry in advance for the audio... - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Always impressive to see the first start of an engine that has set for 50 years.
If the car backfired, you mite have a burning vinyl glove on your right hand. Better to pour in a little gas then set the container AWAY from a possible backfire. Loved the vid...Thank you for posing. Best of luck with your Crosley.
This video takes me to my chilhood when one of my uncles took all of us to a ride in his red Crosley, with a Ford 60 hp V-8 engine inside. The car was similar to this one, but not hard top, I presume was the convertible version, 1947.
Brilliant!. Love old bits of kit being bought back to life! Nice one! Good on ya! Maddog Melbourne Aus!. Nuff said!. 🙂
A bit late--but that little lever switch behind the windshield if for the vacuum wiper on that side--there is one on the other side. Each wiper had its own motor.
The little engine that could!
I really enjoyed watching this while I was having my breakfast at the kitchen table, thanks so much sir for taking the time to make this video. 😁😂😂👍
That’s awesome man I’m glad you bringing it back to life
my dad had several crosley's buying his first one new in 46 a gray wagon ser number 333 id love to find it in a barn some day .yours is a late 48cc model if it has disk brakes ,the 49 body was the cd body. please join the club and search for service motors out in ohio. i promise they have every thing you ever need and wonderful folks good luck and how about updates on how its going
So I started working on it in April 0f 22'. That May, with less than 2 hours of it being on the road. I drove 200 miles to the Carlsile Import show in PA. That whole weekend it did fine, had no big issues. Did blow the muffler off, and apparently it wasn't charging the whole trip, lost headlights 10 miles from home... Anyway, I took it to a few local car shows, mainly just road around town, and went to thrift stores with it. About 1 month ago I drove it 90 miles to its new home. The guy has already started to fix the body work. I have a few videos of me getting it going, just gotta get to editing them. The little car is neat, but for what ever reason, just not for me. Too many cylinders.. :) I'm an air cooled 2 cycle fella I guess.
Looks like a pretty clean car overall.
I recognize that engine and transmission !!
WELL===AT LEAST YOU GOT IT RUNNING==''KUDOS'' MY FRIENDS OWNED A GARAGE IN MASS==REPAIRING ''CCROSLEYS==IN 1950'S==''RITCHIE''
Grew up with crosleys dad has a bunch of them and probably enough parts to build a few more lol
Those little engines could be hopped up pretty easily.
We need crosley remade for economy driving for groceries
I agree. Have it made in America. Have a choice of gas or electric. Since the newer version of the Mini Cooper and Fiat 500 are bigger than the original since it would need safety and emission controls, the newer Crosley would also be bigger but still keep the style of the original.
Looks like a lucas distributor on an A series BMC, Sprite, MG, Austin 7, Mini, etc
how did you hot wire it I have the same car I'm trying to get going and don't have a key
Hi, at first I just jumped the 2 wires off the back of the key switch inside.
It is really easy to convert to negative ground.
Yeah, though I never found the need to. This little car charged, started, stopped, and ran just fine. I drove it around for quite awhile.
Top speed of 45mph.... As the mechanical parts go, its very interesting. Driving it on modern roads, not so much. There is a good reason most people just leave these sitting as conversation pieces!
Fun to see but horrible to listen to that leaking air line the whole time!
No air hose, it was during the height of cicada season.
I love how simple these cars are. good project cars for beginners
Why not put the cam cover on before you start it.
