I deffinatly would stay up for this guy. He is the real macoy and not one big infomercial. Gerry was Toms choice and that meant he was worthy of the time. I loved it when Letterman called in from Vevay.
This is such a privledge to be able to view these programs. A real broadcaster is very close to being an educator. We follow and his programing and it is a course in study.
I love and miss Tom Snyder, but he could be an overly sensitive host sometimes. When Jerry did Tom’s signature bit at 13:04 to close out the segment (which I took as an homage that Jerry watched his show), Tom had to say something about it when they came back from break at 13:17, perhaps because he thought it was disrespectful for Jerry to take his signature line. Same with the comment about the traffic from Tiburon and the water towers bit, which was partly in fun, and no doubt partly to remind the producer Bruce McKay whose show it was. This is probably in part why he was never offered a better opportunity by the network, but also part of what made his show compelling TV. Warts, awkwardness, and all, he was a genuine fellow who said what was on his mind and always remembered and acknowledged his audience.
@@dongiller I could not feel dumber right now. Too many Lake Erie stories this week rattling around in my brain. Thanks for clarifying. I even wanted bagel/lox for lunch today but the place was too far out of the way
Do you have the one where Waylon Jennings walked off the show before his segment? Dr. Laura was the first guest. Been looking for that one for years. Keep up the great work!
Remember that incident around Fall of 95ish when Tom was in the news after panicking on a commercial airline during turbulence and yelling "WE'RE ALL GONNA' DIE!"? I was working the graveyard shift at an ABC affiliate and didn't get to watch his show when I was working, did he ever talk about that incident on his show?
@@dongiller I've been trying to find any mention of it... but it pre-dated the internet, so I can't find anything. From my memory, I heard about the incident from Don Imus in the Morning.... like I said, I was working graveyard shift (master control) so I don't even know if the incident even made the mainstream news. Oh well... I'll keep searching and see if I can find any mention of it. Thanks for posting Tom's vids!
Well, if Don Imus said it... ;) After I finish digitizing all of Dave's Late Nights, I'll get going on Tom's Late Late Shows, and then I should be able to track it down.
I thought he was confusing the show with Friends there regarding the big window, but no he's right, the first episode did have a big window in the apartment. But... Tom moved that caller along brilliantly.
Complaint department: I appreciate the effort people make to post these videos to CZcams. But, I would really appreciate it, if the date the video was made was INCLUDED. I can see when it was posted, but I don't know the date it was made. DUH?
You're asking for information that CZcams doesn't even allow its creators to include (because why WOULD creators care to specify when a video was made, vs. when it was posted?).
In many ways, T.S. was ahead of his time. A true Broadcaster and Television Star! Thanks for sharing!
Oh how I wish Tom Snyder was still with us. It’s wonderful to see these late night videos.
It's been over 20 years and Tom nailed it.
Snyder was the true definition of "broadcaster."
Good thing he was on all Big 3 networks!
I miss Tom and this show format.
This format is desperately needed!
Believe it or not this got me through some bad times in life. I would watch this show and it just made things somehow a little better.
Why is this format almost extinct these days
@@Deathbruce Dave and TS were the best two hours on Late Night Television in the mid-90's.
@@johnsjohnson448 you got that right. Loved those days and nothing now compares.
I miss Tom also. He was always my favorite!
TS was simply terrific. Two Legendary entertainers sitting down for a conversation. Epic.
Thank you, great memories. I miss those days,
The reference to twirling the umbrella would become a Seinfeld episode (“The Checks”) five months later.

27:29 Calvin Trillin begins. I had been looking for this interview. Thank you.
Where’d the past 25 years go?
Good interview - Thanks for posting!
Tom Snyder should be remembered. We deny ourselves a treasure otherwise.
I'll never forget him. addwriteblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/me-and-tom.html
34:37 Is this the inspiration for Craig Ferguson's awkward pause segment endings?
The funny thing is that a lot of us who loved the Seinfeld show liked Jerry’s standup but weren’t necessary big fans.
Great episode! Thanks, Don

Deserved more fanfare imho

I just thought Tom was making a joking reference to how Jerry "stole this line" (13:06, 13:17).
For sure
When he says to the Canadian lady "I love your locks" (21:11) had something happened on the Great Lakes that day? Or am I misunderstanding
The woman was in Nova Scotia, so Jerry was complimenting her for her lox. Nova Scotia lox.

Digitizing it now.

Tom Snyder is my 2nd favoite interviewer after Dick Cavett. And that is eally close. It dosen't get any better than these 2.
tom is such a great interviewer with a great laugh. whats he up to these days?
Tom passed away 15 years ago.
@@dongiller OMG no
Snyder being seriously miffed that Seinfeld jumped on the line 'watching the pictures fly thru the air' ??
I think He was just referencing it jokingly

Jerry strikes me as a remarkably candid guest, but also impatient and slightly arrogant with the callers.
The Canadian caller was so awkward. Why did they let people like that on the air?
I thought he was confusing the show with Friends there regarding the big window, but no he's right, the first episode did have a big window in the apartment. But... Tom moved that caller along brilliantly.

Not sure I understand your complaint. The title of this video is "Jerry Seinfeld, Calvin Trillin on Late Late Show w/Tom Snyder, June 6, 1996."
This literally makes zero sense.
@Ricky Stecz: DG is a national treasure... and the date is in the title (6/6/96). DUH
