Suzuki should bring back the Quad Racer... And it should be 2 STROKE like this one!!!
This weeks bike of the week is a hybrid between a 2008 Suzuki LTR450 and a 1987 LT250R Quad Racer. Excellent work here! Credits to @mudrunt and his friend Jared Combs for the build!

What do you guys think; should Suzuki bring back the Quad Racer? Maybe Honda will bring back the 250R then??? 😎 Thank you for watching!
Mixing gas and hauling ass.
1987 Lt250r
Rode both a 250 and quadzilla back in the early 90s. Would be awesome if they would bring back all the 2 strokes but, never gonna happen. Would much rather work on a 2 stroke 250 or 500 than my old Raptor 660.
Check out Mike Walsh's ltr500 zilla hybrid. Dream quad for sure but pricey. Better than cr500 hybrids imo because the zilla motor is built with a counterbalancer and is a true quad motor. Cr500 hybrids main issue is they vibrate themselves apart. Link to video: czcams.com/video/ZyrN_eu0muE/video.html
And to answer your question, yes it would be cool for one of them to come out with a new 2 stroke quad but it's never gonna happen. Even with the newer technology of direct injection and transfer port injection the EPA is eventually gonna crack the whip on 2strokes. The one glimmer of hope is that I've been reading where some 2stroke marine outboards and snowmobiles are more fuel efficient than their 4stroke counterparts.
Yes. If any manufacturer made a raw 2 stroke sport quad again I would buy one in a heartbeat.
Suzuki should bring back the ltr450.
That quad is pretty unique, The only issue I see is maybe issues with the chain being that the motor isn’t mounted to the swing arm pivot
I bought a brand new 1987 Quadracer 250r when i was 17 years old. I paid like 1800.00 or something like that in Missouri. Yeah most kids my age were buying cars, but I had to have that 4 wheeler. I rode the living crap out of that poor thing, We could ride them on the roadways back then. My tires were shot to hell from pavement!!!! With exception of my kids that happiest time of my life. I was able to get another 1987 about 10 years ago and like a idiot i sold it again. It was pretty much restored to perfect 1987. I just didn't have a place to ride it I just sat around looking at it. I wish I still had it. I doubt I will ever be able to get another i'm 54 years old now and well yeah. I love your channel though. Maybe I can live my dreams through watching. Thank you!!!!
I absolutely love, admire and respect your passion for atvs man, atvs are the coolest thing humans have ever made. God bless
Thank you for the love man! I will keep making videos 🤘
I remember in the early 90s seeing used 250s outside Suzuki dealers. Allways liked the yellow and blue. My pops bought me a Honda first and broke me in right and here I am today 😁 still rocking Honda's.Cool build👍🏻
Try a YFZ450R ...esp since its only new sport/race ATV avail! Support sport quads. We losing them 😔.
I still have my 91 QuadRacer. Awesome quads. Time for it to go to a new home though. Fun fact, the 87 LT250R is the lightest, full size sport quad ever. The EPA killed the LT450R. The Kawasaki is pronounced Tuh-kah-tee.
You are close to being right but the 1985 Lt250r is the lightest sport quad ever made it weighs exactly the same as a 86 ATC 250r 293lbs!
I had a quad racer 89 model it was a beast wish I still had it.
I now own this bike, it is still in current condition as finished. The plan is this winter to tear down for some powder coat, paint and polishing
If I get to go back on the road here after the holidays I'm going to buy a quad racer. In 07 I moved to Florida and became friends with a good dude named Blake, well Blake's bro had a friend who's parents told her she couldn't have her quad at home anymore to dangerous, so it stayed at his house and me and Blake would take it to the trails and man I loved the way it drive wheelies for days frfr.
Suzuki is an incredible quad builder! They invented 4 wheels ATVs. Suzuki & Yamaha are my faves! #Quadracer
I did a cool motor swap on my kids chinese ATV ! I even put it here on CZcams in 2 Parts ! Love your channal Bro ! :)
I'll have to check it out! Thank you for the love bro!
Back 15+ years ago I had gotten a 86 quadracer 250 in the fall and blew it up and I had a 98 cr250 well with snow on the ground the cr didn't go very well so I took the motor out of my cr and put it in the quad racer I was maybe 15 at the time and had no fabrication skills I one way or another made the mounts from both bikes work enough to hold the motor in all winter long was a fun bike that no one said I could make work but I did thinking back I can't believe It did wish I had pics I could share
man love the sound of 2 strokes, but i love my fuel injected yfz450r lol
Sabo made it!!! 🙋🏽♂️🙏🏽💪🏽🇺🇸🇭🇹Long Island ny
I was just thinking of building this quad and looked this up! It looks and sou me just how I’d want it!! I only wish Suzuki would build it again! Never gonna happen, but we can dream.
underrated channel forsure i really enjoy the content really well put together i bet this guys going to blow up in no time
Thats unbelievably badass
I have a LTZ250
It’s a four stroke quad
They’re very underrated
How can I send you a video of my hybrid 2009 YFZ 450R with my 1995 Banshee motor on it?
It’s far better of a build than the other 2 or 3 that is done like it.
It looks like it came on it and the frame wasn’t cut nowhere like the other builds I’ve seen on CZcams
I can put the 450 motor right back on it with no problem at all but I like it a lot better with my Banshee motor on it.
The detail work I done and exhaust work took a few months to complete but it’s done right
Matthew Johnson Definitely want to see this make sure there is videos of you riding it as well 👍
RIPPER vlogs Yorkshire I’ve got pics of the build and video of it running 94 mph and I knew it had some mean ground speed but I didn’t realize it was that fast till I got it on GPS
Matthew Johnson hopefully he shows yours next i mentioned it to him in another comment your yfz sounds like it’s a beast
RIPPER vlogs Yorkshire He has not bothered to give me info info on how I could send him some pics or video footage of my Banshee build and he keeps show new model 4wheelers with older high H/P motors
I’d like to get it viewed to see how people would respond to my build.
I’d actually like to run this Sabo guy and show him what mine is all about
Matthew Johnson if you have the CZcams app on your phone and have the video on your phone you should be able to upload it from your channel thats how I got my couple trail riding videos of my 400ex on CZcams. Once you upload it just send him the link 🤙
They should bring back the quadzilla Suzuki lt500 those things are beastly
Trevor Olson I have one
PACK A PUNCH nice dude
PACK A PUNCH I would love to drive one of those
I just got one of these yesterday from my uncle for 2k my parents bought it for the family to ride around on but it's different exhaust and it's got turbo on it and engine upgrades
I’ve owned 3 of these and will keep my LT250R forever. 2 stroke for life !!
First thing building a hybrid is you have to aline the sprocket height close to center of the pivot bolt so the chain clear the swing arm doing movement then the rear and engine sprocket must be directly in line then you start mounting and doing fab work
I have an 06 LTR 450 and love it!! I'm curious how that 250 runs compared to the 450......the 450 platform is awesome from Suzuki and the 4 stroke runs unbelievable
The 450 is a lot faster.
Yes I believe all the manufacturer should bring back 2 Strokes I ride a 98 KX250 and I just love the way the power kicks in not saying the four strokes aren't nasty them 450 motocross bikes are scary I just love the snappiness of the 2-stroke though the sound and the smell oh yeah great content man God bless
They bring it back there getting my money
I have a mint 2008 Suzuki ltz400. Yellow and she is in show room condition. And a beast lots of power.
you know Mike I’d be curious how having the motor farther forward affects the center of gravity. But also it’s such a small motor that maybe it doesn’t because the LT 450 R motor takes up all of that space in the frame. Very curious about that
Look up the lt500r ltz450 hybrid build easily one of the sickest builds I've ever seen
Mike Walsh's? Link: czcams.com/video/ZyrN_eu0muE/video.html
if i do an hybride quad one day i would swap a crf 450 engine into my 400EX .. that ltr in the video is realy well made nice bike !!
I sat on new quad racers in the show room.. yes I'm old
Lol,
Come on Tac, let's get that R done🤷🏼♂️💵😁
Me too brother, 1984.
@@ronaldtartaglia4459 high 5!
@@cbr600rrturbo those were the days. I actually still have the brochure for my 88 250r. I used to collect those things.
Lmao, TAC you're the man
I absolutely forgot that Suzuki made this quad!!! I have ridden a Quadzilla, but never even seen the LTZ 250
its pronounced.... TUH- KOT- TEE......killin me smalls
Nope: TEH - KAH - TEH
Sabo you are cornering the 2 stroke quad content here on CZcams! Amazing coverage and great editing, the Valentine’s Day video was hilarious! The TRX 250R build I’m following closely I have an 86’ that I’ve owned since 89’! 2nd owner!
Super dope! I want a 250R soooo bad 😫
I'm collecting parts at the moment for my 05'Trx450r chassis with long travel suspension with a Tecate4 powervalve motor I'm building.
Mike you should do hybrid quad with a classic 500cc 2 stroke and modern chassis!
i just just built a rm250 powered ltz400, kept me busy during our 4 week lockdown. first ride last weekend......i think i prefer it over my banshee!!!!
Very well built
I always wanted to do that either the 250 quadracer or the 500 quadzillah motor on the 450 frame
I currently have a hybrid in the process, an 87 lt500 frame with and 85 cr500 motor
Shane Melochick I have a quadzilla
PACK A PUNCH nice they rip, just my motor in mine blew the trans out going up a hill climb so I’m gonna put a cr500 motor in mine since I had a running motor laying around and the quad zilla is toast
Shane Melochick ya I’m selling mine and I just got a 04 cr 125 with 5 hours on it since factory
I’ve been wanting to build one of these for a long time. Hopefully I’ll get my hands on a roller soon
Lt250rs are so sick but they rare, old and break easy
Great video ! Quadracer are my favorite quads . My dad had an 85 he bought new and I've had a couple 88s .
Dam i love the lt250r i would love to have this bike
I have a 1985 suzuki lt230s quadsport and I agree with the vide
Makes me wanna put a 250r in my 400 frame
do it
I hope Suzuki brings back the quad racer one day either 2 or 4 both badass in my opinion hopefully the sport atv segment increases soon and manufacturers will remake the race quads !! #bringbacksportquads
God I love this build I love my lt250r I’ve owned a lot over the years looking for one right now
I found on but no title so iffy on buying it
Hard to find! Be very choosey.
Wish you could see this lt250r rebuild in our shop I think it would make great for a vid next to your trx 250r
Maybe one day the big four will bring back 2 strokes, but I doubt there willing to drop the cash on r&d for updated motors.
Sure would be cool to see though
Cool build but i think id just rather buy A arms and swing arm elka shocks on the LT 250r frame. Just because its easier and i know how light the LT 250r frame is. That and if i was to build a newer 450 frame with a 2003 or newer RM 250 engine. Don’t really like seeing LT 250r destroyed either should be rebuilt to keep them around.
Badass we done something similar with a 2001 polaris trail boss 325 with a polaris indy 400 engine swap
I’m thinking of taking a 05 trx 450r and placing a cr500 motor my issue finding the right people in my area to actually do all the mounts n welding professionally
I'm sure it can be done; I've seen people do this with a 400EX frame.
My buddy just finished up a Yamaha blaster with a 1986 yz 250 motor things insane
Sounds sick; big power in a small frame!
Death trap lol
That is sick 😷 I like it👍👍
Yo that pipe was huge.
really like the way the LTR's look
Man I'm a total dirt bike guy but man I love watching your quad builds great content you seem like a genuine dude keep the cool videos coming.
I saw a guy with one of these, really cool
I definitely think you should do something with the quadzilla
Check out Walsh Zilla!!!
They did that same bike but with Zilla motor
Dang I’d buy that
That build is sick
Love these hybrid build videos, Suzuki was definitely quicker from the bottom end straight through to the top-end and then the Kawasaki Tecate and the Honda 250R, but Honda had far more Factory support and plenty of aftermarket parts, so it ended up doing much better in the long run than Suzuki, and Kawasaki just gave up LOL, I think they should definitely bring back the lt250r. I've owned the Zilla and a few lt250r's, currently own the LTR 450, 07. and they should definitely bring back the lt 250r "TWO STROKE" would love to see them building high-powered four strokes and two strokes, those were good times back in the day. And has anyone heard anything about Suzuki producing the LTR 450 ever again? Or any other production race Squad?
Check out my Yamaha Raptor 660R 2 stroke hybrid

Awesome man! Love the videos and cant wait until the 250r is finished!!
Idc what you say but why put that in a new chassis. The old one look way better
I think it was mostly an upgrade from the old chassis; they were trying to make the 1st gen frame handle better and there was no way they could make an old LT frame as good as the LTR so they upgraded the entire chassis. People are seeing it as a downgraded motor, but really it's an upgraded body.
Michael Sabo ya but you gotta love the look of the old 2 stroke quads
@@tristenkiesow4061 yes 100% that's why I restored the 88 and doing the TRX now; classic quads are where it's at man!
Michael Sabo 100%
The Major companies need to start making sport atvs again
agree
Try do some 4stroke in lt250r and they be look awesome in that body is best shape for this age
Sweet build
Love the build !! But would have loved to see original silencer used
yes they should!!! Everything old is new again like they say.
How old are you? How old are those videos from you were 14? I love camera history, dirtbike, and anything history
I have a suzuki 1989 lt250s and I would love to see a 2020 model of it
Rad bikes 😁
“Tech Eight” lol Tecate
Hell yea, in this exact form
Love it
Honda 250r that’s what we need
I also am a big Lt Suzuki Fan from way back in the '80s as well. And I really enjoy checking out hybrid quads and Videos.
However, I find this particular project pointless. An lt250r motor only puts out somewhere in the 30 horsepower range. An LTR Motor stock put out between 40 and 42 stock horsepower. Why would you put a smaller less powered motor in a bigger heavier frame? What is its purpose?.
As with any hybrid project, you must consider what is the point for the purpose of your build?.
Drag racing? Street riding? Ice racing, woods riding motocross? Or, is it just a " Novel" idea?
I owned several lt250r back in the '80s and 90s and I owned an 87 quadzilla. The only good component of the quad racers back then were the motors. The chassis were outdated junk.
Would have made more sense to put an lt250r motor in an LTZ 400 chassis!.
The 250 2-stroke motor is not competitive anymore. It's more of a novelty engine.
The lt-r chassis is big enough to accept motorcycle engines probably up to 100 horsepower!. If you're going to build a hybrid you want to build something that is a vast improvement over its previous stock condition. Perhaps a 90 horsepower snowmobile engine or a three cylinder crotch rocket motor that'll do 80 to 100 miles an hour.
I once put an lt500 motor in an lt250r chassis.
The Project was long and nerve-wracking and yes you are right, there are countless small things that are overlooked when doing transplants like this. And the results on that build were not worth the effort.
I knew a guy once who put a YZ 490 air-cooled engine in a blaster for ice racing.
I asked him so how does that thing ride or handle? His Answer was, it's an extremely fast blaster that vibrates horribly and now handles even more like get s***!. LOL.If II were to do a hybrid build?
I would be putting a twin or triple cylinder crotch rocket engine in an LTR that does a hundred miles an hour. But that's just me. LOL
By the way I enjoy your videos very much thank you.
450R frame looks a lot more similar to the TRX250R. Must be why it handles better.
Sick quad
I cant believe they didn't use a 500 zilla motor....the bottom end is the same footprint as the 250 so it will bolt in...just need to change the pipe
Just FYI, the Tecate is pronounced "Teh-Kah-Tay" or even "Teh-Kah-Tee".
Yup same as the desert or the beer.
I think all the brand's will bring them back the old school big bore an the 250s with the rise on conversions i think they will. Killer job to witch ever guy built it. Not sure how much the owner did but killer job
I like to see a LT 250 R swapped with a RMZ 250 4 stroke in the frame.
Yes!
Iv seen a kx500 in a Yamaha blaster
Thats crazy
Nice 👍
Is that a spacer in-between the swingarm where the motor would normally be
2 smokin for life!
Imo a waste because that ltr450 motor would smoke that 250 2 stroke motor. On the other hand if he shoehorned the 500 zilla motor in there that's another story.
Michael... I wnat to do the same thing...I don't want to modify my quad complete, but rather, I wnat to get the 450 plastics and remove the old 250R plastics and install the new looking (spiky look) LTR in my existing 250R... is going to be a challenge but it will look awesome... Let me know your thoughts...or comments'
If anybody could bring it back it would be mike
Tecate is pronounced Teh - Cah - Teh. Its named after a town in california where I think Kawasaki used to test their machines. Its a spanish word, so it's pronounced really as I phonetically spelled it up there. Most people refer to them as Teh - Cahtties, even though thats incorrect. Not trying to be a know it all, love your vids man!
I like a lot
Yamaha is the only ones keeping the sport bikes alive
Don't let JIMMY WHITE here you say Tecate that way 😜
The factory plastic have a cutout for the kicker just like on the quadzilla 500
