something thats not usually mention is that this was the ending of a straight 70min performance back to back and not a single song did the energy dropped. one of the main reasons why this was one of their most memorable performance

Even after all these years listening to babymetal it's completely sureal that there isn't even a hint in Sus voice that shees even a little winded after a show that keeps this energy all the way through. xD

This performance is the one that truly sold me on Babymetal. I'd already seen Gimme Chocolate and Megitsune and had replayed those videos many times, but I wasn't yet a fan. The emotional ride on the Road of Resistance was my Babymetal Road to Damascus moment. By the end I was an emotional wreck. They took me from one peak to the next and it shows the talent and professionalism of the whole Babymetal team. I realized that BM wasn't a gimmick or even just heavy metal but a cross between metal/J-pop and a Broadway show carefully choreographed to manipulate your emotions in the best possible way. Su, Moa and Yui are able to control tens of thousands of people in the audience, which never fails to leave me astounded given their young age, but all the years in Sakura Gakuin, rehearsals and touring makes it seem effortless even as we worry if they can pull it off.
The song is about fighting against the odds and never giving up and talks about beacon fires which brings to my mind the resistance of Japan against the Mongol invasions. It has a strong DragonForce feel because Li and Totman from that band collaborated on it and played it on the album. There are many places that amaze in this performance including Hideki Ayoma's drumming or the guitar solos, but I really get the chills right after the crowd "wows" finish and there is the fast guitar riff and the girls' dance break end up with them standing strongly outlined by the stage lighting. For me that's where the music, choreography, staging and emotion all come together perfectly.
One thing to realize is that the crowd is a critical component in many Japanese band performances and they will have moments when they sing and even have choreographed movements. This is definitely the case for Babymetal and a big part of Yui's and Moa's job is to lead and encourage the crowd. There are online instructions for the crowd and even non-Japanese fans know what to sing in Japanese and when to join in with the dancing. You can see this participation in "Headbanger". So to see that, and for something fun, check out "Headbanger - Legend 1997" and for more Kami Band check out "Catch Me if You Can at Budokan 2014". But for the pinnacle of BM check out "Tales of the Destinies".

I always love when reactors react to Road Of Resistance.... there's always that "Is that little girl really calling for a wall of death" in the beginning.... And then you see the "oh shit" look when they realize that a 5'2" Asian girl called for, and got a big ass wall of death/mosh pit, is hilarious. Love the sing a long part with the fans... I think they added that part in just to give the drummer a break before his legs fall off. 🤣🤣🤣🤘🦊🤘

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 Před rokem +51

Great reaction. This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, i think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was also the end of a 90 minute concert and yes, they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
This was the official video, they actually cut that outro short by at least a couple of minutes (with drummer Hideki Aoyama and the Kami Band going at it non-stop) while the girls went to each different side of the stage to shout "We are ... BABYMETAL" with as many of the audience as they could get near to.
As well as that long central bridge out to the small stage there were two more bridges at either end of the stage leading to a couple more small stages that they used at various points in the show.
About 18 months later they sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running ... their stage there was spectacular.
About the song itself. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, I'm not sure the translation really works so well to convey what it is really about, but it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version - this performance was all the Kami Band's interpretation of course.

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴
"Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) -
Pretty much a master class in audience control.
BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song.
You can definitely feel the speed metal in this one though.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce provided guitar tracks for the studio version.
This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000.
BABYMETAL's lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old.
She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL.
Guitarists that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus. The bassist was BOH, and the drummer was Hideki Aoyama.
Hideki's father and brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood.

Yeah the band, the kamis are really good, but what most impresses me with them in this video is that when it gets into the singalong part they’re pumping their fists and instruments in the air to encourage the crowd to sing. They’re just great.

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。The crowd involvement (mosh pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. American people also did good job in any of 20 shows during BM's 2019 US Tour. For example, you will find videos showing 17,500 audiences doing the same chanting (even much longer one) at the Forum, LA on Oct. 11, 2019. In your video, Su shouted some words at 08:02 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She shouted it rarely since then. Last year (2021), on the final day (April 15) of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts, Su shouted the same words in the end-all of the show. She did it smilingly with matured, mild and friendly voice. It meant, I believe, "come on guys!" The audience smiled her back. I was there at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿

Im sure someone else has already mentioned this, but these girls were like 15-16 when this was performed. And its lead-singer had an entire stadium full of people in the palm of her hand.
The lead singer, Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) , was actually in a J-pop band before BabyMetal was formed. The brainchild of Babymetal saw one of her performances and approached her, asking if she would come sing for them. He/She Did this because of how 'powerful' her voice was, and they knew she'd have no problem singing 'over' the higher-octaves of Metal music. The two backup singers are there not only to back up the lyrics, but are also there to 'engage' / 'lead' the Fans in 'their' part of the song as well (such as the chanting at 4:44 and 'replies' to lyrics such as early on at 2:26 and later at the end with 8:54 with the "we are?" "BABYMETAL!" )
Also... the song itself, is also about "When given the choice, i hope you chose the path of resistance". Its a message/story about not simply 'following where others have gone before' or 'choosing the easiest path', but 'taking the path of resistance'.
This is the song that sent me down "The Fox-Hole" of Babymetal last year when i first heard them and this video (the one you watched) was my first 'introduction' to them :)
As for the "See You" at the end. Thats actually Japanese etiquette if i remember correctly, its similar to the American "Goodbye"
Also.. the name of the band.. "BabyMetal"... it 'kinda' is and isnt a play on words.... I mean.. it is.. but not for the reason you may think initially. If i remember correctly, the Japanese word for "Young" is 1 single syllable/sound different than "Baby". The initial idea for the Band's name was "YoungMetal" as the creator/brainchild wanted to create a 'new' and 'unique' form of Metal... but seeing as the two words were so similar, they opted for "BabyMetal" instead.
    *Edit*
Welcome to your first steps down the Fox-Hole :D

3:08 _Now Pizza Time! (Pizza Time!)_ 🦊🤘🍕
You guys thanks for coming back with more BM songs, yea those are their flags leading us to previous chapter called Metal Resistance, now our girls are already facing a new era and we'll be glad if you take a sneak peek to their new single "Divine Attack - Shingeki" that was released recently, is safe to react so don't worry, this clip is sometimes heavily blocked if you don't put filters so i hope nothing gets wrong in here.🙏
_Road Of Resistance_ is a power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce. Is all about facing your own path without looking back.
The wall of death is insane just like you noticed, is also called "mosh'sh pit", different from usual mosh pit because this one is safe to participate if you fall everyone will stop until you get up and get ready to keep going with the fun ride.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, by this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are magnificent set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (specially the guitarists), all of them are males.
    They are:
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
Totally with you on your last train of thought, this group and everyone around involved on this project are caretaking professionally every single little detail to put a high quality top notch live show so you can have the best experience you ever had, that's another reason to appreciate the amount of love they put on the show, wether is big or small stage, the energy from these girls will still be there.
Thanks for sharing this and like i said hopefully this won't be blocked.
See you next time and kitsune up! 🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal is an amazing band! The girls started with vocalist Sue at age 14, and Yui and Moa at age 12. They performed at festivals for metalheads fans of Metallica and Slayer, with courage. It is impressive, as they are successful in different continents. Live performances are better than in the studio. Babymetal already has 12 years of existence. That is, these girls grew up singing and dancing heavy metal rock with passion and professionalism. This made them have an adult metalhead audience instead of a J-Pop audience of kids and teens, as they imagined. They are admirable. Long live Babymetal! 🎸🎸🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🔥🔥

This performance is a showcase of Su-metal's unparalleled ability to command an audience and the special way that Babymetal, the Kami Band, and fans all come together to become The One. When the girls shout "We are Babymetal!" at the end, they aren't saying that THEY are Babymetal, they are saying that everyone together in the arena is Babymetal. It's that special relationship that they have with the fans that makes Babymetal something different to any other band. To really get a sense of what The One means, you should watch the song "The One", which is Babymetal's love letter to the fans.

Another note about this performance, the final call and response at the end, "WE ARE......BABYMETAL" was cut short by about 6 minutes in editing as there were 2 side catwalks that the girls went down as well doing this so as to make sure they got that interaction with the ENTIRE audience and not just the ones in the center.

Yeah, their performances never disappoint. All what they do has to be perfect: the musicians, the choreo, the stage setup, lights, pyro, sound... even the crowd is perfect! And yes, Su-metal vocals are incredible. And this is just Su's 17 years old version. Imagine what she's able to do now being 24 (turning 25 next month).
This is a high energy performance and actually the final encore of a 90+ minutes long show. They even cut out the majority of the outro (the "We are?... BABYMETAL" with the non stop drumming part) for the music video purpose. But I'm so glad they kept the actual live audio (record labels like to dub the studio version on MVs).

Nice reaction. The crew needed to put on the big Babymetal shows in Japan is so big that Moa has taken to calling them team Babymetal. Of course, she includes everyone including the audience. Because "We are Babymetal". And that's why the fans are called the One. As in one with the band. Love this performance. Starts off with Babymetal preparing for battle. And then they charge into battle with their army of fans with them. Babymetal from the start have really had incredible stage presence. A joy to watch. And even with all that power at their command they are still very humble and gracias. In some ways you could say this song is about them. Taking the hard road. Many experts have said they could have easily stayed in jpop and had great careers. But along comes Koba their producer and presents them with the challenge of a lifetime. Instead of the easy road. Take the hard unknown road. Where folks might not ever except you doing metal. They stepped up to the challenge. And have passed everyone's expectations. Even amuse their talent agency didn't think this project of Koba's was going anywhere. Lead by Su not only did they take Japan but in a few short years stormed across the world. This song implores the audience to join them. An anthem for all who were told not to even try. Even the Japanese government took notice of them. And asked them to join a project called Cool Japan. It was to show off to the world all the new and cool things Japan was producing. Considering how well Jpop was doing at the time and still is. I don't think they were thinking hey one of the cool things is Metal. But as it turns out it is. Since Babymetal entered the world stage many metalheads have look to Japan and asked WTH? Now we have many Japanese bands touring the world. Because Babymetal cleared the road once travels by Bands like X Japan and Loudness. It was just simply time for 3 little ladies from Japan to show the world what they could do. They're the best at what they do. and what they do is Kawaii Metal. enjoy the ride down the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

    Today is what makes tomorrow
    Yes, our future is
    On the way
    Ah!
    Resistance! Resistance!
    Stand up and shout!
    Shout!
    Shouting forever!
    Make your way though
The answer is here if you believe in it
    Forever! Forever!
    Forever! Forever!
    Kokon kon Wow
The passionate hearts burning at the back of our mind
    Our resistance

You should see their Tokyo Dome concert. An indoor baseball stadium with 55,000 seats and BABYMETAL sold out two nights in a row. They performed all the songs from their first two albums and it looks like they spent a million dollars on the stage and all the lights, cameras, etc.

"Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version - this performance was all the Kami Band's interpretation of course." Found this tidbit in Grington300 300's comment and wanted to boost it a bit since it was buried at the end of theirs.

Not too bad for 3 High School Students, huh!! They have been performing on stage for about 80 minutes prior to this closing song!! Did you notice that Su's calls to the Japanese audience were in English? Part of the reason they are so good is that they have been performing on stage since they were 6yo! Of course they are also super talented.
Question; Would you be able deal with daughter(s) with this level of Talent?
