- The NBA's all-time points per game leaders showcase the scoring proficiency of players who have left an indelible mark on the league. At the top of the list is Michael Jordan, often regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, with an average of 30.12 points per game over his illustrious career. Wilt Chamberlain, a dominant force in the paint, follows closely with an average of 30.07 points per game. Elgin Baylor, known for his scoring versatility, rounds out the top three with an average of 27.36 points per game. These players not only accumulated impressive point totals but also maintained remarkable scoring efficiency, solidifying their places among the NBA's all-time points per game leaders.

When Jordan played those two seasons for the wizards his scoring averaged actually dropped from 32 ppg to where it’s at now at 30.12 ppg.
Wilt had to change his game.. he averaged 50 ppg for a season once before

Compare players in their own time period. Yes, Westbrook is better than Cousy most likely, but Wilt played in the era of Cousy.
To put this in perspective on Wilt you have to understand that the basically the whole 2nd half of his career he chose to be more of a facilitator and team ball oriented so that his team had a better shot at winning titles. He even won an assist title one year during that stretch.
Yes but he played with worse players so you can say if he wasn't a team player he'd average 35 points while in jordan's era that is worth like 20 points

In all honesty wilt is in my top 5, he's the strongest nba player and one of the most athletic ever, he's the only dude that could do almost whatever the heck he wanted on whoever the heck he wanted in the 60s NBA
Jordan changed his game too to get others involved, that's when he started winning championships.
@@saintx1 man you’re embarrassing yourself by sucking off the man this much. He isn’t going to have sex with you
And Jordan would average 32 points in much tougher era than Wilt's era if he played those seasons when he choosed to play baseball. He was in his prime in 1994 and of he wasn't retired he could play better in his last two seasons. When talk about his 13 seasons with Chicago, he averages 31 points per game.
Wilt stopped scoring. Now if he kept going, he'd be Stockton of scoring. Never being surpassed.
Exactly
Wilt Chamberlain career playoffs ppg is 23ppg. He didn't stopped scoring. The competition got better. He sucked when it matters the most. Even at the very top of his prime, in the playoffs he wasn't as offensive as tje regular seasosn. That hasn't anything to do with stopping scoring.
@@jorgedelgado8177 He stopped scoring. He won Assists Leader to help his team win a championship.
The rule was changed and your party is over. Is easy to score 50 ppg when you are a giant among average guys, without any rule restriction to how use your oversized body on your favor.
@@al_zera he wasn't the tallest player in the league and the average height back then was 1 inch shorter than the league today which is 6'7.
Respect for te human highlight, Dominique Wilkings! So much underrated...
I never heard of number 20 Adrian Dantley before. And I don’t know why. Played his prime through the 80s. Man averaged 30 for 4 straight seasons. 6 time all star. Couple scoring titles.
He was a problem!! When he wanted to score he could. Always got to the freethrow line.
You know it. You'd see him in the post, calling for the ball. And once he got it, he always had the moves to get himself into position for high-percentage shot. He'd probably be more well-known today if the Pistons hadn't traded him just before their championship runs.
This was a very good list!! I hope they can see all these players from 2005 to present are already making these numbers ook scarce. No defense playing NBA!!
Great content - thank you! But I’m not sure we should have current players considered along with retired players who played several seasons towards the end of their careers when they averaged much less than when they were in their primes. Many of the players featured here are young players still in their prime and doesn’t factor in an entire career ark that will eventually diminish their final PPG.
That’s a good point
Except for LeBron who actually raised his career AVG last year....which is amazing really...
Had Wilt not been so sensitive about media bashing he'd have put that thing up around 40-45 ppg. Who cuts their attemps in half year 7?. By year 7 MJ was the recipient of rule changes and the league LOVED his 50 point outbursts.
I would like to see this list for the last 10 years of these guys career..or 5 years..
This stat speaks to consistency..and guys who were scoring beast from early...guys who start out slow..but become beasts ..
Every player’s worst season should be dropped, that’d even out the list
@@JolteOnWisconsin take Wilt for example, his last two seasons he averaged like 14 ppg on bad knees playing defense, and still has 30ppg for his career
The GOAT at the top. 🐐
LBJ playing for so long at 38 yet being top 5 at ppg is just so insane
If you mention him being 4th in all time assist is just pure madness
Wilt was the most dominant, offensively and defensively by far.
Jordan was honestly and Wilt is number 2
Jordan was honest when he said it unfair to call him #1. He never played against Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Jerry West or Oscar Robertson. Calling him the GOAT is just something the media likes to use. Plus he was told by Wilt that until the NBA changes the rules because of your dominance, don't say you are better than me.
I give a lot of credit to the players of the earlier era that pre-dated the three point line. Those guys had amazing numbers.
Jerry West and Elgin Baylor went fucking nuts in those Lakers Celtics finals as far as scoring averages go.
MJ is still great at Wizard, he's even the oldest All Star of all time, and the oldest player to score 40 points☠️🔥
Make that 55 points.
The only reason he was an all star those seasons were because he’s micheal Jordan. There were so many better players but they choose mike cause he is mike. That’s not cause of his skill but because of his fame. It was a popularity vote and mike won even though he wasn’t good at the time.

A lot of these players currently playing in the NBA will have quite a significant drop in their PPG as they get older
Yeah, like Joel Embiid (26.0 ppg). He’s my favorite players, but big men normally fall off a cliff towards the end of their careers. I could see him ending around 18 ppg assuming he stays in his prime a few more years.

Luka 26.4ppg
Dirks last season really hurt him on this list where he averaged 7.3
Yeah.
Wilt is 2nd all time even though he stopped scoring after only his 7th year
That's b/c he stopped being able to score, so he started passing and rebounding. Fact of the matter is Wilt changed his game to win championships not just b/c he wanted his teammates to do better. Unlike MJ, Wilt failed at that to. Jordan on the other hand won more championships, MVPs, finals MVPs, and scoring titles than Wilt.
Wilt went from scoring a shit ton from 1959-1966
To assisting from 1967-1969
To blocking and rebounding from 1969-1973

When it's all said and done Lebron will be top 5 assists leaders. No one else in the top 5 assists all time is even among the top 100 in points per game. That's because assists and points are directly intertwined. Elite scorers are rarely top assist guys. Elgin Baylor is another rare one. Everyone getting so defensive about wilt chamberlain in the comments. Bringing up the fact that he had to facilitate to win.
Which is funny to me because MJ was able to win WHILE leading the league in scoring. In fact before MJ it was said that you couldn't win with just a guard, and you couldn't win by just scoring. MJ is the reason why we had hero ball in the early 2000s.
Now besides that, wilt's numbers go down during the playoffs while MJs numbers go up during the playoff.
Wilt was also terrible at the free throw line as well.
So overall I still think MJ is the GOAT in scoring.
That's because Jordan was lucky. When he was winning in the 90s, he was the one leading a super team with a Hall of Fame coach. In case you didn't know, his career started in 1984, and he was getting his ass kicked every year he made the playoffs in that decade until the Celtics & Pistons were getting old & washed up.
Jordan never would have won a single title in his career if he came into the league say 7 seasons earlier to the Bulls; where his prime would have come smack dab into the middle of the years of the Celtics/Lakers dominance and then run right into the Pistons as well.
Jordan was fortunate to come into the league when he did, because his prime started right when the league was the weakest it had been in a long time. That's not to say that there were no good teams, but there were no more super teams like the Celtics of the 60s, 80s, or Lakers of the 80s.
