In twenty years, no one will remember Hans Zimmer's Superman theme. Just like no one really remembers his Dark Knight music. Hell I saw the movie a week ago and I already forget the music. I like Hans Zimmer; but, John Williams makes iconic themes. Thirty-five years later and people can instantly recognize William's Superman themes. Just as they can instantly recognize Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Recognizing that does not make us "nostalgia dorks".

In the older comic books (40s and 50s) Superman's costume was made by Martha Kent from his baby blankets in the spaceship, so they were as indestructible as he was. In the newer (80s to now)comics, he has an "aura" that protects his clothes, and whomever he carries.

This rendition is far better than when Mr. Wiiliams conducted it with the London Philharmonic in that the rhythmic texture is treated in a far more marcato vein; henceforth giving the listening experience more cohesion to the musically uneducated populous of movie goers. In addition, please notice that "Krypton" is treated with far more metronomic precision and less of a "quasi" feel making the phrase easier to detect; the work is in quadruple/simple with the trumpet solo entering on beat 3 of the phrase, not beat 1. This sets the rest of the brass to also enter on beat 3 of the phrase as well. Great craft in writing on Mr. Williams behalf.

Heck, great writers have done that for decades already. I don't see them holding back Silver Surfer's or Thor's or the Hulk's power, yet they still get good stories where they have to sweat a little.

Bruce quit because he was hunted down more viciously than ever, I assume he was wounded very badly during that fall at the end of TDK too. After the Dent Act there was no more organized crime. When Daggett brought Bane (the first legimitate threat in 8 years) to Gotham Bruce was ready for action The Nolan Batman trilogy was a critical and box office success part of it was because of the casting, more specifically Michael Caine.

So long as bullets and bombs still do jack and all to him like they would for Godzilla and he's at least a low tier mountain or city buster who can tip over large building and or skyscrapers, I'll be happy.

The only bad thing about the Planet Krypton intro is that so few orchestras play it live. I only found two performances on youtube.
Why is that??? And where can more be found?

While I do agree that it is epic, he does have a point. They didn't use this theme in the new one because its a totally different movie then the Christopher Reeve (RIP) movies. This one fit the Donner movies because they were lighthearted and fun. The new one is a complete reboot with a more serious and dark undertone (or overtone, however you look at it.) I like both. I think they convey the tone of each movie right. This one is awe-inspiring while the new one is hope inspiring. My 2 cents lol

his body acts like a battery for solar energy as he grows up his body can absorb more energy making it plausible for his various powers to manifest over time strength and speed come first is a given, durability comes next look at Smallville Clark was unaware of his invulnerability untill he got hit by lex's car

They're always called "snobs" when they don't like something popular. Truth is, critics like movies just as much as anyone else. They have studied elements that are not noticed by general audiences, so their distaste for something might be more founded on technical details than superficial ones.
And, don't think all critics are snobs that don't like popular movies. Mark Kermode likes the Twilight Saga, Roger Ebert thought The Mummy 3 was the best in the franchise.
