As a Jedi, Dooku was one of the only Jedi in the waning days of the republic to specialise in the second form of light saber combat that focused heavily upon light saber on light saber combat; possibly being its greatest ever practitioner. Adding to dueling prowess, Dooku modified his saber by curving the hilt. This allowed the blade to be emitted at a slight angle, disorientating his opponents with its unorthodox design. It also allowed Dooku to move his blade more quickly if he was caught in a blade lock, as seen in attack of the clones against obi wan Kenobi.

Thank you for doing theses I've been a starwars fan since I first saw new hope ( the original version) but didn't know much about the lore until I started watching your shorts
😎👍
The other reason Dookus Saber was curved was because the actor wanted it to be that way since he dueled with Rapiers 👍
He is also related to Charlemagne and the Sabre of Charlemagne has a curved hilt. Charlemagne didn't own it though. That was just made up by a Holy Roman Emperor named Otto III.
@@adrianaslund8605 basically everyone is related to charlemagne
@@dcr645 Yes! For example. I am.
But he's a much more direct descendant of him than most.
@@adrianaslund8605 Do you care to elaborate? Charlemagne was around in the late 700's AD, so almost everyone (except some very insular groups far from Europe) nowadays is. How is Christopher Lee more related to Charlemagne?

I like how Doku’s combat style is similar to that of a rapier.
That's what form 2 was based off of in fact most of the Forms are based off of different types of sword combat
I read the last word as something else.
Main reason was because Christopher Lee didn’t have much experience in double handed blade combat, so the producers made a specialised weapon for him.
Christopher Lee was more comfortable with single handed blades, being a very skilled fencer
Christopher Lee invented form two because he wanted a lightsaber style more akin to fencing an George Lucas gave it to him.
I love how whenever somebody illustrates Dooku, he always resembles Christopher Lee, Lee has been immortalized by his legendary role
Who else would he resemble?

@@oz459 True, but dooku didn't exist as a character until Lee played him.
His lightsaber also had an extendo button, so when he fought people would get comfortable with the length, and then extend for a suprise attack which is kinda kooky since its a lightsaber and one hit usually ends the fight
Lmao
That would be broken every 1v1 the person will die unless they know about it

@@dirpyturtle69 No, they do not. From my knowledge, when it comes to movies, only Dooku and Vader used multi-crystal lightsaber, other had mono-design, which does not allow you to change the length of a blade. Could you give me example of what lightsaber (specifically) are you talking about?

Clone duty.
This comment and replies are all gold.
It’s also kinda cool when you notice how smart of a duelist he is. In the clone wars series he always tries to force Kenobi to go on the offense, and tries to keep Anakin defensive. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents and exploits them.
Darth Bane also had a curved saber, though he had mastered all forms of lightsaber combat with it
So did dooku? Dooku switched to obi wans form during their fight just to taunt him lol
I was just thinking the same thing and wonder was Dooku inspired by this fact. Even the reasoning is the same
@@DeeboWRLD I read somewhere where doku mastered form 2 and believed that anyone who practiced or uses more than one saber form isn’t a master of any form it’s more on the lines in which he knows the basics of all the other forms after mastering form 2 plus with his experience and years in the temple using other forms isn’t that hard for him
@@DeeboWRLD no he did it to anakin at least it was a lot more noticeable when he did it to him.

Count Dooku one of the most underrated Star Wars villains
I think canonically, he just happened to be a good guesser. The man said they sould focus more on saber v saber and no one listened
I absolutely love Dooku's lightsaber, the hilt looks so freaking elegant *chef's kiss*
Dooku is honestly my favorite villain in the entire Star Wars franchise
I dare you to find some old corran horn art and talk about the multi crystal triple length blade.
If I could fashion my own personal blade it would be somewhat like Dookus with a tiny bit more curve at the butt end and a purple / amethyst/ blade. And I would spend any time available to find a Ghostfire crystal.
I'd want the darksaber.
Personally, I would use a double blade that could detach, which would activate the cross guard when it did. I’d use either form 4 or 5
Duku was also a student of actual fencing, and of noble origins as a Count of "Sereno" and combined the two styles in to his own mixed form of lights saber combat if memory serves.
He was a damn fine duelest in the Old EU
> says Dooku's lightsaber is almost perfect
> doesn't explain how it can be perfect and instead explains why he's a good dueler and why his lightsaber looks the way it does
> video ends
I guess you somehow missed the entire video where he explained how the LIGHTSABER was shaped differently than most of the other ones, which lead to everyone with a normal lightsaber not expecting/understanding it putting them immediately at a disadvantage. I can see how you were confused though, its only almost the entirety of the video
Yeah buddy you missed that one, sorry to say
@@dissrapswhich obviously tells us as the audience that it has its downsides. We know this because the entire video explains how good it is with zero downsides mentioned.
I really like how they changed the hilt in Tales Of The Jedi, to make it less aggressive, meaning he modified it more when he became Tyranus
His light saber was curved disorienting his opponent.
My Master always stressed to keep your mind on the blade not on the hand that wields it. The blade is more dangerous than the hand
Christopher Lee was a master duelist. He chose it to be that way
Hence the motto, "duel like a gentleman."
CZcams Shorts is the best thing that could’ve happened to Star Wars related topics 😁
Can’t forget his duelist form was reminiscent of rapier fencing
This guy really said "disorientating"
So?
Disorientating: Adjective; Causing a feeling of confusion.
or
Causing someone to lose their sense of direction.
? Where are you going with this
It's meant to be disorienting not disorientating
@@Cookie-gw1vv disorienting
Things like this sound very realistic. It is just logical to modify a weapon to make it harder to fight against, it happens IRL too, and the details and even reasonings in this are amazing. It does make me want to watch Star Wars SOMETIME... even though I probably never will because it's probably not my type of movie (or other content). Still... Things like these are amazing.

That picture of light side Dooku is sick AF
Was always my favorite saber since I was little
I like how there’s an image with Dooku and yoda fighting and dooku’s saber is just right above yoda’s head
Didnt he have the curved hilt because christopher lee knew fencing and didnt want to learn the other way, so they let him ise the fencing style
Yeah plus there’s a rumour that he wanted it based on king charlemange’s sword which had a curved hilt.
@@thanoseid2883 That reminds me about how Samuel Jackson wanted a different color so instead of blue or green he asked for purple
Sir Christopher Lee had the hilt curved per his request since had a long history in duelling with rapiers. He was all business when it came to sword fights and is known to have more the most sword fights on film than any actor. He’s a legend in modern cinema.
He didn’t modify his saber, he built that saber, as is tradition
Just imagine dooku and anakin fighting together tho…the combination of djem so’s aggressive blade work and makashi’s elegant style? WHOO! Serve me up some of that!
um
@@_SWFB …what?
The slight angle isn't to disorient opponents. Real swords do it, and it's to put the tip more in line with the arm for optimized thrusts. That's it.
IRL yeah but that’s the space fantasy in-universe logic
He does have a badass looking lightsaber and I always liked watching him in the clone wars fight other Jedis and anybody who tried to fuck with him
I like how the story around Dooku makes him out to be almost as badass as Christopher Lee, the man who played him
This man is superior in every way
“I nearly lost my head there.”
Count Dooku is so underrated
Can you have a duel blade that is a 90 degree angle so that when you are at a saber lock then you can activate the second blade to kill your enemy?
Like a lightsaber pistol with a blade instead? That'd be some tricky mirror tricks with emitters and mirrors, and the Krystal, but I guess with some time, it could be done. But wait, isn't that just like a cross guard saber?
@@welken3756 I was thinking more like darth mauls lightsaber but with a 90 degree turn so that you can fight with one blade then get them to a saber lock just to turn the other half on to kill them.
Sth to note is that the lightsaber hilt wasn't made to disorient due to it's unorthodox design but infact was made similar to a rapier as a perfectly straight extension of his arm position, meaning he could have alot more accurate thrusts and short cuts.
Imagine Zoros accuracy since he also was a great duelist and used a rapier which is very similar in hilt and balance design to Dookus lightsaber granting him equal if not better saber flexibility.
Signature look of superiority
I like to think that Doku just stepped on his lightsaber one morning and he just went with it
Count Doku is just the GOAT
Count dooku was a real gentleman with a lot of class
Yo Dooku's lightsaber was my favourite as a kid and how It was curved made it somehow look more powerful.
I'm torn between his saber and the darksaber.
Well you're not wrong, the curve allows for more powerful strikes with less movement in the hands, so more power.
You could use the extra hook at the end for leverage with the second hand during Saber locks as well
Dookulas cage when he was younger
I'm actually curious why the more powerful jedi usually transition into sith/dark lords. Maybe the dark side isn't as wrong as we may assume. Morality is subjective.
The dark side is just a metaphor for ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’. Have you noticed every Sith Lord loses empathy with every other being and turns their back on being good to others?
Its essentially the ultimate form of selling out.
yoda: mmm flaccid his saber is
Nice content keep it up
Dooku was a badass
Disorientating is not a word. The word is disorienting.
But I've always wondered: has anyone ever held a Curved Hilt saber with both hands, or is it impossible?
Dunno if your trying to be funny or not....
Dooku actually did in some point of his Saber fight in revenge of the Sith. Just watch the fight again slowly.
It kind of defeats the point of the curve. The curve is there to add power and precision, you would move your hand less and the blade would move more than if it weren't curved.
Holding it with two hands would render this feature ineffective.
Everyone: disorientATing
actual word Disorienting: what am I, trash?
I love unique lightsaber designs! I've had plans to make a hilt that extends and retracts as needed. I would use this feature to lure my opponent into closer-ish range because the blade itself would be pretty short, only about 24" and my single hand would be gripped very close to the emitter so they wouldn't suspect anything unusual. Then when I use two hands, I'd press a button and twist the hilt without anyone seeing. This disengages the lock in the hilt, allowing me to thrust the hilt forward, causing it to increase the hilt's length by about 5 fold and then retract immediately unless I press the button and twist the hilt at whatever length I need. Because I use a shorter blade and I myself am not a very large guy, this would make my opponent feel safer at a distance they think is out of my range but I actually have more range than them. My technique makes slashing, swiping, thrusting and parrying very fluid and transitional.
Just saying, Dooku is my favorite hero to be in Battlefront II
Dooku used a lightsaber here so that sauruman could have more force power in middle earth
Young Jedi Dooku looks like Nic Cage
His is my favorite. Mine would be similar just a little longer for a better 2 hand grip , a saber resistant metal cross-gard ,a pommel spike and a adjustable blade so it can be short like a knife or extra long , wider or pointier things like that would be so useful .
Nobody asked
Having a 2 handed curved hilt would defeat the purpose of the curve for single hand use, so would the cross guard, as well as render it's effectiveness with two hands redundant.
Dooku's blade is adjustable, however.
R.I.P. count
Another day another time requesting to do a vid on making a Pontite crystal bleed
I've been seeing them mate! I've done some research and unfortunately there isn't much information as pontite crystals are legends and bleeding crystals is Disney Canon. However, I would theorise that they would be harder to bleed due to their stronger affinity to the light side, however they would likely be more powerful
@@VadersFortress If they had such affinity to the light side, couldn't their power diminish because of their light side essence?
chill
@@amihere383 I have a hypothesis that kylo's was actually a pontite it's cracked and sparkles almost feels conflicted between the two sides
Disorientating is not a word. It's disorienting.
Man said “disorientating”
Disorientating isn’t a word. It’s disorienting.
More like "why dooku has a signature look of superior?"
They should make it canon that Grand Moff Tarkin is related to Dooku. Jedi Dooku in Tales of Jedi reminds me of Tarkin a lot
It's because the actor who played Dooku, want it that way. He was also a fencer
The only sabre better looking than Dooku’s was the one Vader took from the retired Jedi right after losing his to Obi Wan
“Disorientate” xD
Wasn’t his lightsaber also capable of changing length or something
Why does young Dooku look like Admiral Tarkin?
Star Wars just sounds like if you were any different in the slightest way then you were feared, or powerful
The hilt is also curved to create more uniformity, so it focuses more on the style and structure/form... hes not as inclined to switch formation, or use his lightsaber in a flashy manner with tricks or whatever
Lucas try to make a Yataghan, but end with Looks like my mother Broom stick
Christopher Lee who played Dooku was also a fencer and a direct descendant of Charlemagne who had a curved sword hilt
Young dooku looks like he’d be played by Alan partridge
Imagine he had a ghostfire crystal
I thought the purpose of the curved hilt was because the form is based on fencing where the foils are angled that way
Christoper Lee is the only person outside of Ray Park that would be a competent duelist that ever played a Jedi or a Sith in the films.
If I was in Star Wars as a force user, I'd use a tilted hilt and my colour would be purple or red. I'd probably be a jedi first, creating a purple bladed lightsaber, then if I turned to the Sith I'd make a second, with a similar hilt, with a red crystal after bleeding it. I'd have 2 lightsabers, so I could pass off as a Jedi to those who haven't seen me turn or to those who weren't a Jedi. They'd trust me, then I'd have the advantage.
I need a dooku origin like solo got
I never knew he was a Jedi
I only need one.
Dr. Breen
The greatest practitioner of form 2 was Tulak Hord.
With a curved hilt he had a better stance when facing an opponent
Yeah it also looked dope asl
Well dang
Also the curve allows him extra leverage since he was getting older and weaker.
I hope Disney didn’t retcon all Lightsaber form
It's Disney; we know them to recton.
well disney doesnt change my canon
I had a feeling that curve was the case, I just couldn’t remember 🤔
Imagine curving it around them n hitting the opponent.
Still got head cut off lol
why does everyone seem to say “disorientating” instead of “disorienting” ??? tf why we making up words now
U forgot the fact that dooku had a button to change the length of his lightsaber much like darth Vader
A curved hilt better contours to the forearm when extended, which is the most important thing for defensive purposes in using your weapon to create distance between you and you enemy.
That's really the extent of it.
