    Installing Tasmota onto a device such as a Sonoff is usually done using esptool.py, which is a powerful command line utility but it can be a bit confusing if you're not used to it. Now it's been paired with an amazing graphical interface called Tasmotizer that gives you point-and-click convenience, and adds some handy features for configuring your devices.
    See the link above for a step by step guide.

    Thanks Jon. Between this, your flashing tool and a few new Sonoffs adding to a basic "smart" home system is now so much easier.

    There is a new board layout of the Sonoff Basic controller. The serial pins are in a different location. They are along the outer edge of the board next to the LED. HOWEVER, the pin outs are clearly labelled, so after I solder in the 4 way header the overall process is the same. I successfully flashed version 2.7.4.5 of tasmota.bin . I am an *extremely* happy camper. THANK YOU!

    Wow, this is nice! If nothing else, it seems like a really easy way to fetch and install the latest version of tasmota code. It would be nice if there was some preferences/template for, e.g, your WiFi and MQTT information that's common. Maybe you can stuff that into the template string or something? Thanks for the pointer to this software, and I especially appreciate that it's cross-platform and works on macOS.

      You could use a program like Termite to open a terminal and configure it with that after it's flashed but still connected to your pc, i have commands to set ssid and password in a txt file and just copy paste it in the terminal. i'm sure you could find the commands to do the same for mqtt in the tasmota wiki.

    Hi Jon. Have now done a couple of Sonoff Basic's without any problem, but with power on, the LED's flash at 3sec intervals. Is there a way of having this revert to lit with switch "On and not lit with switch "Off"

  • @smitty1245
    @smitty1245 Před 4 lety +1

    What was the sticky stuff you used on the header pins to hold them while soldiering? Right now I just use little alligator clips to hold them in place before the first pin is soldered.

    • @SuperHouseTV
      @SuperHouseTV  Před 4 lety +1

      It's sold here as "Blu Tack", normally used to attach posters to walls. I don't know what it's called in other parts of the world. I think it's called "poster putty" in the USA.

      @SuperHouseTV  Před 4 lety +1

      @@smitty1245 Johnnie is right, it gets soft if you let it get hot, and it can become stringy and sticky. I commonly use it in situations like headers with plastic bodies, where I can put it between the body and the PCB and not have any contact with the metal pins or pads. Even then it's ok (I've seen people use it to hold through-hole parts in place, for example) but you have to let it cool down before you remove it, otherwise it leaves a mess.

    Hi Jon. I've been using Tasmotizer now for a while (thanks for the video), but I am facing an issue that is driving me crazy.
    I have 6 Sonoff t3us3c - touch switch - and the original FW never worked. I flashed tasmota to one of them (minimal.bin) and the blinking light never came up. I've tried other BIN's and I always get MD5 of file does not match data in flash!
    Am I doing something wrong?
    thanks

    Super Cool. Thanks. I tried to run a 4 foot fluorescent light off the sonoff basic but it never worked. I had to use the wemos / Belkin socket. I guess the light sucked more than 10 Amps. Oh well.

    • @SuperHouseTV
      @SuperHouseTV  Před 4 lety

      There's no way that a fluoro tube should use more than 10A! That would be a crazy amount of power for a light. There must have been something else going on with the Sonoff.

    Is there no mechanism for storing the WiFi and MQTT credentials and having them 'blown' automatically, as an option?
    The vast majority of people will only have one network and one broker, I would think.

    • @SuperHouseTV
      @SuperHouseTV  Před 4 lety

      I'd love that too. There's a new release of Tasmotizer coming this weekend with additional features, and I think this is a likely feature soon. My opinion is that it should store whatever values you put into the settings screen automatically, without needing a save button or anything like that. Just make them persistent.

    Another great video.
    I would love to play around with this sort of thing but I can't help wondering what the ramifications for house insurance are for connecting these sorts of devices to your home wiring. I'd be surprised if Sonoff gear has the appropriate Australian (and therefore NZ where I live) certification. Here you wouldn't get a legit electrician to connect non-certified gear and insurance companies really do not like unqualified home owners mucking around with electrics and would likely use that as an excuse for not paying out on any electricity related claims such as a short burning down your house.

    • @TradieTrev
      @TradieTrev Před 4 lety +1

      You can buy approved smart switches in AU/NZ. Trader's Powermesh, M-Elec's Stichty or Deta's Smart Grid are 3 that I know of that any electrician should be able to install with yourself setting up the automation.

    I've got a weird issue, that I haven't seen before, with an Arilux LC-06 LED controller that I've tried to put Tasmota on. I have three of them in total and two are working perfectly with Tasmota flashed, and I can access them in a browser, with no issues. The third one is where I have a problem. I can flash it, and can add my SSID info with both termite commands and through the "normal" method with a phone etc. The unit shows up on my wireless network, with IP address etc, as if all is good, but no matter what I do, I cannot connect to it with a browser. I tried ESPurna, which works perfectly, but I prefer Tasmota. Anyone have any ideas?

      Sorry, I don't have a 4CH Pro R2 so I can't test it. When you say "nothing works", what do you mean? Does it upload anything at all? CZcams comments are a difficult place to provide tech support so it may be best to ask the question in the Tasmota Discord, or maybe the SuperHouse Discord.

    Just used it to upgrade my pool controller (which uses a wemos and tasmoto) worked a treat. While I'm pretty comfortable with pulling code and uploading with platform.io or esptool... this is pretty idiot proof way of doing it - so I'll recommend this to newbies at the hackerspace. Would be nice if it could faciliate actually getting the latest bin file from github (or at least point people at the right place)
