    It's interesting that The Royal Mint is offering coins with a PF70 grade at a premium. While it's understandable that achieving a perfect grade requires additional quality control, you can't help but wonder, shouldn't a reputable institution like The Royal Mint produce high-quality coins as standard? It's a bit like a bricklayer charging per brick but asking for a premium to do a 'proper job.' Shouldn't the 'proper job' be the baseline? This premium service raises questions about the quality of their standard offerings and could potentially dilute their value proposition.

      Yes. My conspiracy theory involves pushing collectors into only purchasing already graded coins, so you’re less likely to spend less and “Take the chance.” It’s appalling.

    I would not buy this, as I am an American, but I love this concept. Perfect grade, nice presentation, Engravers auto, limited to 500. Should appreciate in value well.

    Some dealers on Facebook groups offers guarantee PF70 grade with not that much of a mark up. For a little extra with the peace of mind with top grade I can see the benefit

    It's not a full on bargain but neither is it outrageously expensive. Affordable for the majority and may I say the presentation is excellent from the Royal Mint. Nice autograph touches too.

    The coins shouldn't be damaged when you are paying 10% over spot on bullion anyway! Nevermind the proof premium coins which are supposed to be hand picked.

    I just ordered one, for once I know I'm not going to get some scratched up, dinged coin passed off as acceptable proof quality. Should be a collectable that stays decent over the long term as well.

    I rather like these coins, and I like the little box and the way it’s presented. It looks excellent but most of all I like the fact that NGC put the king’s portrait to the front of the slab indeed, that is the proper obverse of the coin, I can’t stand when the coins are reverse up. Excellent pick up!

    The question is if you have to turn around and sell it, how much are you set back? Also how much are you set back if you are to sell it at spot price of silver. So the question is whether it is an actual investment or an art object, an object for pleasure. Is it like a fine arts oil painting you buy at an art gallery for $2000 and in the secondary market you can get only $500 for it.

    I’ve bought two King Charles Coronation Gold 1oz coins this week and with a mintage of 7,500 I would expect them to be decent quality. I was wrong. Very disappointed with the Royal Mint QC quality but that is nothing I already knew.

    I have huge reservations about graded silver coins. If they tarnish or milk spot within the slab, will they truly be able to be said to maintain their 70 grading? I'm interested in your thoughts.

    Think this was the RM hyped marketing machine in full flow. Not awfully expensive but nonetheless, big premium for a box and signatures. Also for such a small mintage they’ve sold incredibly slowly. Think it’s one of those that if you like it, but it. If not, not missing much 👍🏼

    I'm one of those who think grading/slabbing "made for collector" proof coins is unnecessary as these coins are by definition proof quality. It is basically taking advantage of the many collectors who are prone to bouts of OCD. I buy many after market proof silver and gold coins, which I grade myself, for prices akin to bullion coins.

    Thought I'd mention to everyone that this set is actually even cheaper than it was. Even though it still says on the page it is £395.00 when it comes to the check out, the price (before postage) is £329.17

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  Před 11 měsíci +2

      This is because you are not in the UK and you dont pay sales tax when you buy it. We in the UK have to pay 20% sales tax, which means £329.17 x 1.2 = £395

    I have another question. I live in Australia & have had to send two items back to The Royal Mint for replacement, one due to quality issues & the other was the wrong coin they sent me. On both occasions the address for return was & is a Post Office Box at Pontyclun, Wales. I had to phone & e-mail Parcel Force to make sure The RM received the returned coins, as they told me Parcel Force (Royal Mail) don't deliver to Post Offices Boxes in The UK. I e-mailed The RM about this, but they only answered other questions I had. Have The RM got a physical address as I'd rather not go through that hassle next time.

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  Před 11 měsíci

      If you use Australia post rather than parcel force it should get to their returns.

    • @BigDon62
      @BigDon62 Před 11 měsíci

      @@BackyardBullion The only problem with that is I do use Australia Post, but once a parcel enters UK jurisdiction it always seems to be picked up by Royal Mail's Parcel Force for delivery. The parcels did get there, but as mentioned before I had to phone & e-mail Parcel Force for that to happen.

      @@BackyardBullion I've taken the plunge BYB! It's the Martin Jennings signature that really clinched it for me - that's their USP that separates them from most/all? other RM coins.
      Even though I've bought the set, I concur 100% with andrewj361's comments below and I think this would make an excellent topic for a future video? Proof coins should all be of PF70 standard by default. RM should provide that guarantee by making it explicit that anyone who elects to get a proof coin graded and receives anything less than PF70 will get their money refunded in full. RM must do more to instill confidence in their products rather than - as andrewj361 asserts - "potentially dilute their value proposition".
