I'm Irish, and in the world of athletics we don't often have much to shout about, but last night will live long in the memory. Four absolute warriors, it was a joy to watch. And, well done Italy, brilliant 2nd place. Fabulous event and race.
They are a fun group as well...bonding in relay is crucial. Gold ❤
Congrats! It was a great race! 🎉
@@deematrix4135 The truth is she was born in Dublin and raised in Tallaght.
@paulwalsh598 Anyhow you dice it, she's Ireland's secret weapon as Femka Bol is to the Netherland.
@@deematrix4135 it was a relay, my friend.
From the Netherlands: congratulations Ireland on the gold in the mixed relay!
Thank you…no doubt the Netherlands will be a force at the Olympics
Bol almost finished 2nd 😄
Best of luck in the Euros.
Netherlands starter had a bad run, if he works on his lap , Netherlands are Gold contender for sure
Bedankt lieve Nederlanders! Wij zijn heel trots op onze Ierse Team; maar wij waardeer jou Femke Bol ook. Tegenwoordig er is zo veel talent te genieten 🏆 😀
omg I was all for Italy but the brothers and sisters from Ireland did some crazy magic! Wow what a race!
Not enough credit given by the commentator, or the cameraman, to Ireland. They were all brilliant, but what a leg from Rhasida Adeleke!! And then Sharlene Mawdsley brought it home. No fluke about that performance!! 👏👏 👏👏
They were superb!
What was really lost in the analysis is how Adeleke literally pulled the soul out of the Dutch team. Klaver made a colossal error and tried to sprint early with Adeleke. Completely mis-judging who she was running against. Klaver effectively ran out of gas around the 300M mark and put the Dutch team in a hole not even Femke could dig them out of.
Her face at the end was one of pure shock and shame.
The race commentator seemed to have a problem saying Ireland.
@@rcg1469 That has been a major problem with English sports commentators for DECADES. Sometimes they even try to claim Irish athletes as being "British".
An old, very annoying, colonial habit.
@@rcg1469 no he didn’t he mentioned Ireland and Belgium the most and the Dutch once. Stop moaning and enjoy the win
Well done to the Irish relay team 🎉
Brilliant 👏
Amazing race🎉😊
Congratulation to Team Ireland, for an amazing inspirational win. It was poetry from start to finish.
"It's a great day for the Irish "
How great to see the wonderful Irish Team claim GOLD. Did the Nation proud 🇮🇪💚
Congratulations to all but especially Ireland.
Amazing by Ireland
Can I just say I love that the Irish girls wearing the ribbons💚
There so cute
Adeleke is a beast!
Great relay from the Irish, a well deserved gold!
I'm from the Netherlands, so I appreciate the attention, but yes, the Irish were overlooked too much by the commentator.
It should have been clear from the World Relays that they were going to challenge the Netherlands for gold here.
Klaver started her run way more back in the field than she probably expected (first runner faded bad), tried to make up the difference AND keep up with Adeleke (who is the better 400m runner). The last 2 runners from the Netherlands performed well, but even though Femke Bol ran the fastest split time, the race was already lost.
(Also, Mawdsley only ran 0.2s slower than Bol, so she would have been a problem either way 🙂)
In Paris I suspect Ireland and the Netherlands are gonna be quite equal, so it's gonna be exciting to see.
I don't expect gold from either team though, as the USA team has much better male 400m runners ...
Nice comment my friend, Ireland and Netherlands always great sports-man/woman-ship. I was baffled that the commentator wasn't focused on who was winning the race, but no biggie. Good luck to Holland for the rest of Championships! ☘
Great comment, The Bahamas if the likes of Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Steven Gardiner, Wanya McCoy/Alonzo Russell & Javonya Valcourt run the event in Paris like @World Relays will also be contenders for that Gold Medal.
english commentators tend to ignore ireland and then be surprised when ireland does well
@@cathbarry127 But the commentator didn't ignore Ireland. He mentioned them as much as anyone else.
Where is this supposed ignoring in other sports towards Ireland? Maybe you could give me some examples?
Rhasida Adeleke is doing amazing ❤, well done to all the team in ireland they did amazing
Second leg from Ireland, she is AMAZING!!!
The commentator said it was an “upset and a surprise” that Ireland won this race. Well, anyone who knows world athletics would know that those Irish competitors were very strong contenders for honours here. Their talent is well known in the athletics world. It came down to tactics in the end and the Irish got it spot on. Well done to them.
That and Klaver not being in shape yet. She ran a foolish 2nd leg
Adeleke dominated Klaver- This was the key.
Not in the grand scheme..The final leg is what did it.
You are absolutely spot on there. The leg from Adeleke was the key. I think Klaver not at all used to someone hurtling past her the way Adeleke did. Never seen anyone put pressure on Klaver like that.
Congratulations to the Irish for 1st place.
However, the commentator's remark that all the credit should go to the last-leg runner left a sour taste. Yes, the last leg-runner did well to get first but plaudits are also due to the 2nd leg-runner who established the lead and set the pace for her successors thereafter.
Facts. I caught the slight to Rhasidat too.
Mawdsley ran a slightly faster leg than Adeleke. They both did really well. I think the praise for Mawdsley is that she doesn't have the same experience as some of the other competitors in the final leg and that she didn't buckle. The praise is warranted in my opinion. She outperformed expectations.
@@Ligerpride Good day. It's simple. The Adeleke factor made the major difference. In other words, if Adeleke did not accomplish what she did in establishing a significant lead, then Mawdsley would have had a much more difficult task, maybe highly improbable, in being in the reckoning for 1st place.
@@Ligerpride Yes Mawdsley look/ed so good , I went on the net to see if I could find the running times for the runners. First I was so impressed by Adeleke, and had to look at Wikipedia who she is, then when Mawdelsy took it home so greatly I wanted to know the times, but couldn't find them. So now I know Mawdsley run even faster, but included in this is how exchange works I suppose.// And as I read in comments, I did not hear any warnings from the reporters how good Iraland could be,
@paulalexander1567 Exactly. If that 2nd leg didn't give the Irish such a big lead, that anchor would've been swallowed up by Femke Bol. I don't care what the splits are. The 2nd leg won that race
What a wonderful race by the Irish and the speed.
Adeleke put everything into this one...Great win for Ireland
Incredible second leg by Rhasidat Adeleke and hell of a finish by Sharlene Mawdsley to break away and seal it up! Congrats to Ireland!
Absolutely! Well done also to the 3rd leg run from Thomas Barr for keeping them in contention after Adeleke gave them the lead.
This is a brilliant event and was won by an absolutely brilliant Irish team who ran the race to perfection
and seemed to enjoy every second of it ....................brilliant . The commentary didn't seem to figure on the Irish team ..............but they were brilliant . Well done all .
The Irish did a great job.Kudos.😊
WOW! Nicely done Ireland👍🎶
Great observation, Adeleke absolutely roasted Klaver. Your right as well, what was Klaver or the coach thinking, she must have known Adeleke is a top 25 of all time 400m runner, she's elite. When I saw the line out I did think the Irish coach made a mistake not putting Adeleke up against Femke in the final leg, I thought she would blast past Sharlene Mawdsley, but she was unreal too
The commentary was both inaccurate and disrespectful of Adeleke’s run. Quite bizarre. Even when he said Klaver was really going through the gears, it was clearly Adeleke who seemed to go from 1st to 6th gear in record time.
That massive time deficit Femke was given and she still claws it back to make podium. Awesome.
Wow 🤩! Amazing victory! I was nervous watching the highlights even though I knew they won 😂 👏 🎉 ☘️ 💚🤍🧡🇮🇪
Same here😂😂
@@declandonohoe9612 😂🤣😂
Adeleki’s lap was ridiculous.
Sharlene ran a slightly faster split believe it or not. They both did great.
@@Ligerpride Really? Jaysus we’re blessed amongst women these days
@@Ligerpride Have to remember that Adeleke had to run most of her leg esp the first 200m very wide cos of Klaver which makes her 49.53 split even more impressive, but great to see that 49.40 split form Sharlene!
I'm here for the Spanish race walker fail 🤣🤣
The Ukrainian athlete was clearly running at the end - both feet off the ground.
Another Clip to go on the never celebrate too early youtube video's, you think people would of learnt by now
You mean someone started talking louder in the whispering competition? How dare they?!
@@Dinna-beDaft Had the announcer known anything about the sport, he would have caught that. The Ukrainian should be disqualified.
Whenever I see race walkers in slo mo I recon 70% are lifting if not running and the Ukrainian was clearly running race walking is such a farce and the commentator never said a thing!?
you just have to love Femke Bol! Love you girl! They put you in these 1000% spots and you give 2000 every time. You Are Great!
Adeleke ran an amazing leg
Stop it. We see what you are implying. It was a team effort. And the final leg was the best performance if we are choosing.
@@jaydaawg.8191Stop it. That relay was won on the 2nd leg by the Irish. If not for that 2nd leg, Ireland doesn't even medal
Adeleke actually rescued Island from losing. The last girl for Island was wonderful also; she is s a very experienced runner.
@@jaydaawg.8191 lol. I don't think you watched the race with a strategic mind. Whilst it's a team effort, Adeleke leg set the tone fir the rest of race, not only did she catch up she also handed over in a good lead too. Had Adeleke just maintained the team position, they would not have won gold.
Barr ran 44.5 amazing to stay second, must be his best ever.
O Connell 46.3.
The girls did great too at 49.5, not as fast as u probably expect as not equal humans physically.
Well done Ireland so proud of ye❤
The third lady in the "walking race " was running at the end on the line. Both feet well of the ground ....but I don't care . ...I'm so so proud to be Irish ...fantastic gold made my year .
I thought the same. So easy to freeze on two feet in the air different times. I don't get walking.
And well done Ireland
Ya it was pretty easy to see she was losing contact. The Spanish team should protest that. It seems like the Ukrainian athlete had nothing to lose so she just ran it in 😂
@@bighammer3464 My thoughts exactly. It's never wise to celebrate before the finish line, but the Ukrainian was clearly sprinting with both feet off the ground. I'd like to think of myself as a relatively open-minded dad, but if my kids take up race walking I might have to disown them 🤣
@@andyok3625I agree. I mean, if you're going to have a walking race, why not have a hopping race, and a skipping race and a crawling race, too?
Adeleke is special!
Her split wasn't fastest
Femke bol single handedly keeping the dutch relevant.
Yep. I think the whole mixed 4x400 project is a mistake for the Dutch (also overloading Bol)
@ElieWeissenbach-xx1yi yes their killing her. The other runners are so weak in comparison, and she doesn't even run the 400m flat.
@@rowland5951You know Bonevacia and Klaver are not slow. One race doesn't erase all their great runs. It wasn't 4 legs run by Bol
@@rowland5951 Klaver is also a phenomenal runner, but she does have a bit of a tendency to front-load her race and fade in the last 100m. The Dutch problem is their men don't match up to the class of their women.
@ena1rume Klaver is good it's more the men.
Amazing run from Ireland! Femke was coming for all of them in that last 100m 💪🏻
It's a 4 member team but too much work is always left for Femke.Great job Ireland.🎉
@@leilamichael9578maybe for the Italian and Belgian girls..definitely not for Mawdsley..
The irony of that "I run clean" message on the Ukrainian walker's vest - not only for actually running right at the end much to the horror of the Spaniard but also she had previously served a 4 year doping ban.
Commentator didn’t seem to see the Irish runners. Kept looking back for the favourites.
Awesome Irish team 😊😊😊
Damn near broke the British commentators heart to talk about the Irish in the 4x400. Barely mentioned them till the end.
I noticed that too. Very poor commentary
Could you please point out where he treated Ireland different to any of the other athletes? Where was the moment it "Broke his heart" to talk about the Irish as well? I didn't get that impression at all. But maybe you can point it out specifically when that happened on the video.
@@reecespoon2432The Irish truly are the blacks of Europe. To coin a phrase from #TheCommitments..
Congratulations to Ireland, to Adeleke....and Bol...wow
That wasn’t an upset. Adeleke dominated Klaver AGAIN. Netherlands was done after leg 2.
Klaver had a lot of ground to make up on Adeleke, and she did that, but she overcooked it, which cost her on the last 100m of her leg.
@@rientsdijkstra4266are you and Klaver relatives 😂? What race were you watching? Klaver got the baton within tenths of a second of Adeleke, AND she was on the inside. Adeleke chewed her up plain and simple.
Adeleke is simply faster than Klaver. I expect Adeleke to be on the podium for the 400m, if she runs it in Paris.
@@FourSeasons04Of course she’s running the 400m in Paris.
Would have been nice if the commentator had concentrated for the race for gold rather than bang on about boll the whole time but yes fabulous result for Ireland.
Absolutely.
If the commentator knew the outcome, maybe he would have! But the Dutch are the ones to watch 👍
Congrats to Ireland, well done! But Bol got to within a few inches of taking the gold from Ireland with as usual a lot more speed on the last 100 meters. Made up about 20 meters on the Irish. So yes, that was VERY relevant for the outcome of the race...
To be fair it was annincredible run by Bol to make up that ground
@@ElieWeissenbach-xx1yiIndeed. Bol is unique, but this is a TEAM race.
Femke Bol is impressive! 🤩
Ireland layed the smack down
Looking forward Ireland Olympic in Paris 2024 💪💪💪

Fantastic 4 Ireland!
Come'on IRELAND 🇮🇪
Wtf was that from the British commentator did you see Ireland? Did you see that LION heart performance? absolutely bizarre camera work and lackluster commentary for such a magnificent achievement absolutely disgraceful
the british are always dismissive and condescending to the irish
@@cathbarry127nothing new in all honesty
Congrats to Ireland 🇮🇪 in the mixed 4x400. Dutch are usually fantastic but something went wrong with Klaver
So proud such amazing Irish athletics well done.Thank you all .
To me, it looked like the race walker that ended up getting 3rd didn’t have one foot in contact with the ground during the last few meters. Any thoughts on that? Thought one foot always had to be in contact with the ground.
Looks the same to me but I'm sure that would have been reviewed if something were wrong.
Battocletti had so much energy at the end, she could have probably taken the lead 800m earlier with no risks of being caught up.
Devastante ed INCREDIBILE il cambio di Ritmo di Battocletti ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Commentator didn't mention Ireland until 75 seconds into the race, shameful ignorance.
English commentator - nothing new.
The new, young Irish don't give a shite about England's opinion anymore.
The Gaelic pride is back.
Because of the black girl that won it for them.
You expect an Englishman to acknowledge the Irish?
@@dennisinkwa5233she didn't win it . Didn't you watch it
Brill comment - England view totally typical.
The women won that gold for Ireland 💚💪🏽
3rd place finisher clearly runs at end, both feet clearly off ground
Cross the line first, never celebrate too early.
Not sure what athletics that British commentator has been watching recently. This result was no surprise if he had been watching recent performances. Adeleke has Klaver's number all day, every day. Only Bol might be a problem for her, but the Netherlands were well beaten by the time of the final changeover. Femke Bol is a wonderful athlete , but she might be a little bit 'over-raced', which is a bad thing in an Olympic year. Hard to judge the standards on a global level here without the US, Caribbean and Africa athletes.
I agree with most of your comment, but I don't agree on Femke being 'over-raced'.
She ran the fastest split of all the female athletes and executed her leg well, there was simply too much of a gap to make up for.
In terms of meets, 2024 is probably one of her least busy years and her entire season is aimed towards Paris.
For a lot of elite European athletes these European Championships are considered a good "test trial" for the Olympics ...
@@_MicZ_ I am a great admirer of Femke Bol. She is one of the best athletes on the planet right now. What the Olympics need is for everyone to be on their best form and then we will know who is the best.
Actually it's very easy to judge the standards on a global level. The Irish time last night of 3:09.92 is 1.12 seconds off the world record set by the US in 2023 and 0.05 seconds outside the European record which was set by Poland at the Tokoyo Olympics in 2021.
The US won the World Relay Chanmpionship with a time of 3:10.73 at the start of May. Ireland were 3rd there with a time of 3:11.53 which was the Irish record. So the team last night took the Irish record time down by 1.6 seconds in less than 1 month.
If they can produce similar form in Paris they will definitely be in with a shout of a medal which for any Irish track team is an incredible achievement.
@@jimw859 Let's hope that proves to be the case, but, as you know, success in sport often depends on how a person or team performs on the day or night in question.
@@williamfagan7835 Indeed it does. That's why I'm saying "if" at the start of the last paragraph.
Although unless there was some disaster (like dropping a baton) we should expect that Ireland will qualify for the final. Thereafter it's anybody's guess as to what might happen.
Amazing 🎉 Shame about the cameraman and commentators concentrating on the Dutch.
Wasn't that bad, they were favourites.
My sentiments exactly. The camera director should be fired.
Bro, you got a good victory, why spoil it like this?
Disgraceful camera work and commentary phenomenonal performance by team ireland completely glossed over

Wow Ireland! Great from all
that ukraineían "walker" should be DQ´d she obviously had both feet in the air to get bronze
Absolument clair sur le ralenti ! ça tient parfois du gag le jugement humain !
She was jogging to get past lol
I saw that too. Ukraine was jogging past.
That was an insane run by Bol! Being way behind in fourth place to almost overtaking second place!
49.12 is hardly insane sorry to say. She jogged down the back straight with no urgency at all. She was in perfect position to execute a historic run but just chose safety. A dozen college girls in the NCAA had similar legs on the relays at Nationals. Just speaking the truth.
So True.
What a mixed 400m race! Congratulations to the Irish! Shame for Garcia Caro though, 10:07 that's going into r/prematurecelebration for sure.

Wow gold for ireland
Sorry, that Ukranian walker cheated - she clearly had both feet off the ground while overtaking.

YEAH IRELAND
Black girl on the Irish relay team did MOST of the heavy lifting. Commentator felt some typa way about that.
Indeed. And "black girl" is a 21 year old born and raised Irish woman - born and raised in Dublin of African heritage and with a great Dublin accent.
Notice that the English NEVER react to the BLACK color of their football players and athletes born in England.
They are out of touch and have NO IDEA about Ireland - and never did.
Just condescension.
@@christinequinn5355 Your comment is confusing. She was raised Irish woman, but she was also raised African woman? The British have no problem with black athletes as they had a lot of colonies in Africa, and Ireland had none. I am Polish but I live in the US. I will never call myself an American even if I consider America my home. Maybe two or three generations up may claim that they are American.
Actually when you look at the splits Sharlene Mawdsley (the Irish anchor) ran a faster time. Not to diminish what Rhasidat did but both of them were instrumental in the victory.
@@januszdworak4780 My comment really shouldn't be confusing. I am a Dubliner, Irish born and also live in the US. I will not call myself an American either.

Femke Bol 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good to see the Italian woman do well.
Thanks for posting!
Klaiver made a huge mistake going head to head with Adeleke
Yes, especially after her fast start (trying to make up what the previous runner lost), she should have been way more conservative on the back straight.
Klaver is a great runner, but it seems that even after quite a few successes running more conservative at the first 200m, she still defaults to going all out under pressure.
@@_MicZ_ Klaver is a 200 meter runner by nature and on the 400 she has a tendency to start to fast and overdo it in the 1st 200m after which she will collapse. She can run very good 400's IFF she remembers to restrain herself on the first part.
Since her teammate was lagging far behind in the first leg, she was a little eager to catch up the gap and collapsed at the end. She needed to leave some energy to transition in the last 100 meters. In her past competitions, she usually suffered a serious collapse in the last 100 meters!
@@stephenchan1415 @_MicZ_ Klaver did well she is just not as strong yet at this stage in the season, still a couple months to go to the olympics, she has multiple relay golds from the past couple of years, I expect her to split 48 - 49 in the olympics, she has to if they are going to beat the US and Ireland.
