Agreed on all points Rye. I have the 2019 1000RR Fireblade SP having moved from a CBR650R. That giggle you had when you let rip is what I get every time I ride. It is absolutely insane above 8k and scares the life out of you. It’s well above my skill level and too much for the road in every respect but I don’t care. It was my dream bike and I love it!!

This bike was just released shortly before I bought my new 2021 BMW S1000RR m package so I did look at it as a potential choice until I discovered this bike was costing €28,000 in Ireland which basically ruled it out immediately as the BMW was priced at €25,000 and in all the you tube reviews it got high praise as a comfortable superbike which at 63 is an important consideration for me. I have yet to see a new fireblade on the road which suggests to me they are possibly not selling too well. The BMW is a true dream bike and I think I made the right choice. Nearly 7,000km up on it now and it gets used more often than any of my other bikes.

Made me laugh, I rode this exact same demonstrator from Norton Way Honda in July on some of the exact same roads!. I ordered the 30th anniversary version as a result as I also have an original 92 blade. At 5'6" I find the position comfortable and have done 2 hour plus rides no problem. I overlook it's shortcomings and enjoy it for what it is. You did lots of laughing and that's testimony to how this bike makes you feel. It's a riot and the first time I opened mine up there was a lot of swearing inside my lid! But what a rush. Hope I can keep my licence long enough to reach the next service!. Good review.

I was really considering buying this bike but your right is a very focused track bike. I ended up with 22 s1000rr and I can’t put my finger on it, it’s not a race bike but at the same time it is. I love just being able to ride 6th gear all day with our shifting. I think RR-R would have drove me nuts with no low end power.

Tip for comfort riding on the Fireblade:
Sit near the tank ... squeaks knee into the tank and weight will come of the wrist. Keep trying this and soon you will feel weight of your wrist.
Hold the handle bar softly, like holding an ice cream cone.
Brake and Clutch lever set to lower position. Not striaght like the motorbike in the video, you need to lower them. This lowers your wrist.
    Keep toes on the pegs.
    These worked for me.
I can now easily ride over an hour without feeling cramps.

Fantastic review! VERY honest and straightforward..a missile! Sounds like you BEST be on top of your game once you strap this rocket on? As an old codger who ‘back in the day’ owned a Kawa ZX-7R..LOVED that bike, I MISS those days of conscientiously rocketing around riding it back & forth to work as a plant operator in south Texas on the Gulf Coast. Just KNOWING it was available for romping around meant a whole lot. Nice review mate, I own a 2020 RRR SP and I think you have reviewed this spot on. Stupid power above 6k-7k RPM, very long geared, mad exhaust sound over 8k when the flap opens and it becomes a monster. But yes... sluggish below 6k RPM and front brake required a line change and pad swap for me to get good reliable feel. Also... reliable as hell. Got 11000 miles on mine, never missed a beat despite trashing it.

As much as I love a fire blade, 1000cc it's just too much power for the road, I own a cbr600rr08 love it to death and enjoy revving it out and going through the gears within the power band, on a 1000cc you never need to go past gear 2 lol with the way I ride.
    1000cc gear 2 130mph
    600cc gear 4/5 130 = fun fun fun!

on the breaks, put a cable tie round the lever and tighten it right up pulling the front break on get that cable tie tight around the grip, do the same with the back brake, clamp the lever so the rear is fully breaks on. leave overnight then in the morning snip the cable ties off and you will have all of the air out of the break components. it's an old trick that will really make a difference. of course braded hoses help but this is an epic fix ! no bleeding is needed.

    Thank you for this review.
I wanted to get a modern upgrade to my 2007 K7 Suzuki 1000.
I road tested this Honda and would say its bound to be partly down to the euro five compliance but it had much much less midrange than my K7 and felt more like a 400 than a 600 to me in its midrange and more like 125 when pulling off compare to my K7.
The 215hp claimed felt like 190-195 rwh so about 10hp more than my k7 185rwh (multiple Dyno jet dyno rwh recordings)
    when you say ...
    "Engine quiet and gentle"
I would say felt gutless until high up in the rev range.
    when you say
"In the mid range you feel like you're riding a 600 super"
I would say unfortunately I had to go down 3 gears if wanted to get moving again from round town speeds.
    when you say
"it's not exactly a well rounded sports bike for the road."
I would say it felt like a very poor road bike to me that clearly needed somthing like variable cam timing to provide some sort of mid range.Honda wont because of cost and not needed for high speed track use.
    when you say
"Front brake spongy rear brake not very good"
I say The great & hugely capable brakes do feel like they lack power and feel but I believe this is largely because they incorporate numerous length of brake lines for the ABS but mostly because the front and rear are linked.
My New BMWS1000RR felt the same but its race settings lets me un-link them, massively improving feel And therefore control for me.
So yep I went out and got A new BMWS1000RR which is an improvement in every way on my old Suzuki, which unfortunately, can't be said for the new Honda fire blade.

Ive just sold an 19 plate Aprilia RSV4 and i can honestly say it was the best bike ive ever owned 💯. Amazing power, handling, brakes, and definitely makes you feel special when you jump on board 😎 and that’s without me even mentioning that soundtrack 🔥. I sold it as i wasn’t really using it enough and got fed up of looking at it on paddock stands in my garage. Ive now bought a minta of a 14 plate 636 and honestly cannot believe how much fun im having on it okay doesn’t have a quickshifter, blipper, 200hp all the electronic aids but ive actually realised it’s great to get back to basics and just rag a high revving 600 again. Up and down through the gears rev matching myself and having great fun as opposed to just rolling on the throttle in any gear and pulling my moobs off. Don’t get me wrong i absolutely loved my RSV4 and would i have another most definitely but there is a lot to be said about going back to basics and screaming a good old fashioned 636 getting the most out of your bike. Like you said i suppose it just comes down to what you actually want out of a bike 🤷🏼 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks! I am trying different formats in my reviews I enjoyed making this one and so to receive positive feedback is reassuring
To be honest a 600 sports bike is similar in that you really need to be screaming it to get the best out of it. Only the Fireblade SP has twice the power 🤣 and so you really need to be capable and a fit rider to be taking this bike anywhere near what it is possible in achieving. So yes totally down to the rider. Still even if you are not capable there is still a real meaty mid range. Could probably benefit with a significant change to the sprockets too. Bikes geared to do like 300mph 🤣

Those roads would be considered main roads in Ireland. What lovely roads they were and in glorious weather too. I am glad I got to ride many times on similar roads and weather in Ireland this summer which has been the best ever.

Back in the 90's i owned a honda vfr 400 nc30 that did 70mph in 1st gear!!. But i think the most top speed i ever had out of it was 135 140 but an awesome bike i loved it. But then came the first gen fireblade!!! oh my what a shock that was......still my favourite bike its close run with the Bandit 1200 i had but for me the blade made better use of its power and was better at the twisty stuff.

Let's be honest. A title like "Is it too much to handle " is never going to have anyone that's ridden a Honda Fireblade wondering. I've had various Fireblades since 2004 and they are never anything other than rider friendly. Balanced is the key word. You point them in any direction and they'll oblige(that things got a particularly ugly headstock mind you)

Completely pointless for the road though...power rush all at the top end so you have to rev it out, and after 2 gears you're at double the speed limit 😂

    • @BikesofRye
      @BikesofRye  Před 2 lety +1

A lot of bikes and cars can be classed as pointless for the road but I guess there is still something about owning and riding one of the ultimate performance machines. And yes even 1st gear up to about 8000rpm is all you need 🤣

I owned a Porsche 997 C2S for a few years and it too only got exciting when you were already well over the speed limit. It looked and sounded great but at normal speeds I may as well have been driving a VW passat. Gets boring after a while even if its a Porsche. Get more enjoyment from my Fiat Coupe 20 valve turbo at lower speeds.

Wow fantastic. PSYCHO . Too much probability for unforeseen obstacles ont twisting country roads. Absolutely dangerous. Every car ride can be just as dangerous, you cannot predict what’s ahead or who’s incompetent. We all function with the probability of risk I guess. You have so much going for yourself to be tacking chances. My friend, a renowned Neurologist calls them donor cycles. Fast glorious machines.

Honest review should state The 2020 had connecting rod recall and the Current Model CBR1000RRR has had such over heating problems /ecu problems it has failed to make it through Superbike comparisons without over heating , dropping oil from melting oil lines , burnt out ecu . Honda even sent a letter to cbr 1000rrr owners saying ... this bike should be riden over 50mph at all times due to over heating . I have seen 3 cbr 1000rrr blown up on the side of the road . Try a Euro superbike as they have beaten the japanese superbikes in ALL comparisons for the past 14 years strait!! the best a japanese superbike could muster is 4th in the past 14 years strait . I have a superbike collection of both japanese and euro superbikes so i have no bias .. The japanese superbikes are not bad but the euro superbikes are just better in all aspects including reliability .
