No matter how many times I see it I will never tire of watching someone fall in love with Tori Amos.
Same ❤
Respect for not pausing.
Tori's the Artist deserving of being heard from start to finish.
I went to several of her concerts, but the one that stands out to me most was her playing in around 94... the entire venue was just SILENT and mesmerized. I've never seen someone command a room that way before or since.
Tori is a force of nature.
Tori is the only artist who plays the piano like it’s an electric guitar. I’ve seen her half a dozen times in concert. She’s fantastic.
I love Tori. Little Earthquakes got me thru the most difficult break up of my life. That album is so... intimate...it makes me cry every time. I can rarely (once every few years) listen to it.
Yep, couldn't even make it to the chorus before the tears were rollin down my face. 🤍
I don't know what I can say about Tori other than how profound an impact she had on my life during my late teens/early twenties. Little Earthquakes was and still is a top tier album of all time by any genre, period. Even if you don't react to the full album for your channel you simply must listen to it end to end. She's had quite a long career so there's a lot of songs to recommend: Silent All These Years, Precious Things, Flying Dutchman (personal favorite), God, Sugar, and her cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit are all good places to start.
Just a little aside, Flying Dutchman, also a personal favorite, make sure to listen to the version from the Little Earthquakes Deluxe 25th anniversary release, there was a remastered version that came out in the early 2000s that was done poorly, the new version restores from that. Sorry to nitpick, but I'd hate for anyone to stumble on the wrong version.
@@Wungolioth absolutely agree.
++++ a million percent. I've been listening to her since 1993-ish and she never disappoints.
I agree
Little Earthquakes is a masterpiece, cover to cover. So is "Poses," by Rufus Wainwright, cover to cover.
Live In Session... Precious Things. Tori is absolutely MAGICAL!! See her in concert half of a dozen times. Incredible!! Definitely should go down this rabbit hole.
Yessss -- one of the ones from the late 90s with Matt Chamberlain on drums. Phenomenal.
Have always ♥️’d Tori.
Next:
“Silent All These Years”
“Cornflake Girl”
“Crucify”
Silent All these Years - that song encapsulates the story of my marriage . Regardless, I do love hearing it! Seeing Tori in a few concerts..unforgettable and wonderful experiences. She’s crazy talented, no?
Always makes me cry.
I think Little earthquakes is one of the best albums of all time. There are only few which I like to hear from first to last song and enjoy it. Silent all these years is stunning. I love Little earthquakes as well...Crucify, and so on
Good choice, Michael! Another song is 'Silent All These Years'.
as a father... with a daughter searching for herself,, this song is sooo tough
Tori is a brilliant composer, songwriter, goddess, artist, singer and soul. Hope to see more of her on your channel.
More Tori please. She’s amazing.
Tori is a brilliant songwriter and singer. BRAVO
Tori is absolutely a musical genius ❤ Check out Sessions at West 54th 1998....mind blowing with her band ❤
She's been the greatest teacher of my life aside from my parents-about what matters most, anyway.
She's a genius in many different ways. It's always moving to watch someone discover her music.
Her voice is so good...
Tori is the real deal. How many artists can you name who could pull off a performance like this one? It's a very short list! Musical insubordination at age 11? How cool is that, LOL! Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Yes!! More Tori please! Would love to see more Sinead O’Connor on this channel too… Troy, Fire on Babylon, Black Boys on Mopeds, so many great songs.
Silent All These Years and Crucify are two of my favorites of hers.
I just love you. The way you immerse yourself into something that is new to your ears, is a pleasure to watch 💙 stunning performance from Tori. Little earthquakes is a musical masterpiece.
Agree with everything you said ... from his immersive reactions to her album "Little Earthquakes." ♡
There are so many Tori Amos songs you need to hear! While your at it, Ani Difranco - anything (especially anything off "Living in Clip")
You hit the nail on the head regarding the control she has...singers like Tori Amos, Ani Difranco, Paul Rodgers, David Draiman have such control of their instrument - pure talent, no gimmicks or gadgets. Always dynamic and make it look easy.
I love Ani Difranco's "Not a pretty girl", most reactors wouldn't have the courage to play it, it seems.. That song got me through my horrdendous "lifetime movie" type divorce..
I've seen Tori in concert about 30x. Her David Letterman performance of "Precious Things" is stunning as are all of her Letterman performances.
Oh.. ALWAYS watch Tori LIVE!!!!
Try Tori Amos - Precious Things (Live Session 1998) she is a powerhouse in that one. Very hypnotizing
Hey, Sal -- I am so glad you enjoyed that. It's hard not to fall in love with Tori Amos when you watch that performance. It makes me cry every single time. So many great songs. i will echo Silent All These Years, Precious Things, Cornflake Girl (to hear her fantastic piano playing) and so many, many, more. Thanks for a great reaction.
To say that I love her, is an understatement. She has her own certain power & grace. Beautiful creations that she offers. Every single one.
You said it perfectly - Control and restraint. Tori could take the same song and the emotional journey would change, entirely depending on her performance mood at the time. Her live concerts were always mesmerizing and captivating.
As a massive Kate Bush fan, I can say that Yes - a lot of Kate fans adore Tori as well. Tori Amos is an absolute force. Influenced by Kate, Tori is similar yet completely different. Where as Kate is an absolute technical genius of performance art, Tori will take you on THE most raw, emotional journey of your life.
*FYI - Her first solo album "Little Earthquakes" is on my short list of absolute top tier masterpiece albums. Even if you don't react to it - DO NOT SKIP LISTENING TO THE ENTIRE ALBUM "LITTLE EARTHQUAKES". Then go look up every live Tori performance you can watch. Even if it is the same song but from a different tour. Seriously ... you WILL be pulled in.*
I made it my business to see every early Tori Amos concert (near enough for me to drive to) from the very beginning of her solo career. She started in small venues, very often just her and a piano. As her popularity grew, so did her concert halls, stage size, and back up band. I think I preferred the early days with just her and her piano. Her performances were more emotional back then and indescribably intimate. I often sat very close to the small stage back then (often about 15 feet away from her).
Sooo glad you found tori amos. It's always better to listen to her live as she's so creative and interesting. Here's right off the top of my head some of my favorite live performances. 1. "Crucify" Montreux 1991 2. "corn flake girl" at PBS Soundstage in chicago 2003 3. "Precious Things" Live session 1998. You may want to have the lyrics up on Precious Things as she's really experimenting with her voice and the lyrics can be difficult to fully understand. I've never looked them up and I still don't know the lyrics to this song, but who cares, it's just a wonderful ride with her and her very talented band.
I would recommend the videos of either "God", "Caught a Lite Sneeze", or "Cornflake Girl"...
Tori has been and always will be my favorite female musician.
That piano isn't her accompaniment, it's her duet partner. Actually it's a trio - Tori, the piano, and her breath. I was fifteen when Little Earthquakes came out and she changed my life forever.
Tori Amos was one of the top singer and songwriters of 90's. She and Sarah McLaughlin were the too quality female vocalists in the 90's. Very much liked by musical critics everywhere. Tori Amos is one of of my all-time favorite artist.
Natalie Merchant, PJ Harvey
@@keithbate9405 Julianne Regan
@@stevem-h3562 Good for me a level below Lisa Gerrard, Liz Fraser. Natalie M, Polly Harvey, Mary Ramsey. Tori Amos etc.
Tori is amazing. She's very passionate and her live performances are spellbinding. I recommend her 1998 Sessions live performances (all songs are great, love IIEEE), Father Lucifer 1996 Letterman, "Blood Roses" 1999 Las Vegas, and too many more. Videos I love by her are Spark, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Jackie's Strength, Hey Jupiter. Tori has so much content.
The talent here is impeccable. One of the most emotional and perfect performances ever.
This song, as a daughter who loves her father into the depths of my soul, destroys me. This is love.
Tori's "Crucify" and "Silent all these years" from this same album are also fantastic. Every time I play this song (Winter) from Tori Amos's album "LIttle earthquakes", I feel it is the story of my Father and I. I"m sure many of us feel this way when we listen to it....
Any track from these concerts is worthy of review! Thanks!
You need to see Tori playing both the grand piano and a keyboard behind her at the same time. Her skill is just unsurpassed. One of the best life performances of any musician I've ever seen was Tori and a string quartet.
"Winter" is an amazing song from an amazing artist! I once met Tori (she felt like a kindred spirit) and pass the hospital she was born in every few days. Her beautiful music carried me through the 90s. I hope you check out some of her powerful songs like "Spark," "China" or "A Sorta Fairytale." I am grateful to whomever suggested this song.
Such a beautiful song & performance. Great to see you react to it & appreciate it. Very few popular artists are able to do what Tori is capable of doing. There's sooo much more to explore from Tori. You might want to stay in this era with Silent All These Years, Crucify or China. If you want to jump around, check out videos Spark or Caught a Light Sneeze or A Sorta Fairytale.
I remember back in the 90's Tori was somehow universally loved among the metal community. Myself included. I'd go to parties and listen to Slayer and Cannibal Corpse all night. Then late at night someone would throw on Tori to wind down the evening and absolutely no one would complain. Tori was metal with a piano. Raw and real.
I recommend her live performance of the song "Me and a Gun". It's not an easy listen. But it's incredible.
Tori is a genius, and I am so glad you took a watch and listen. In addition to the other musical picks that have been mentioned already, please consider her cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Little Earthquakes is my desert island album, I could listen to it and sing along with it forever. Her concerts are above and beyond. I saw her on the Under The Pink tour, sat in the third row, and was spellbound.
her covers are so good
Tori Amos is art. And this performance is definitely one of the best introductions anyone could have to her music and soul. It still gives me chills each time I see / hear it.
Please do more Tori. Little Earthquakes is incredible front to back.
Tori Amos (pronounced “ay-mus”) is one of a kind. Her lyrics, especially on the Little Earthquake album, are captivating and her use of tempo, volume, and breath is unmatched.
“Crucify” and “Silent All These Years” (album versions) are fantastic with unique stories. When you’re ready (and you’ll know what I mean after you hear it), “Me and a Gun”, live version.
She also did a one-of-a-kind remake of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, if you can believe it and want to venture down that rabbit hole.
Amos is incredible. When "Little Earthquakes" came out, I saw her first video on MTV, immediately bought her album and I was just never the same. Every song on that record is stunning. She makes 99% of "pop stars" today look like jokes.
She is my favorite artist and I’ve seen her live over 50 times
The official music video for this song is also great: Tori at her most beautiful. _Cornflake Girl_ is arguably her biggest hit. Watch ‘em all!
Her voice is mesmerizing
She is my absolute favorite singer ever..I have seen her 65 times starting in 94 she has been a daily part of my life for half my life and I can't be more grateful
Soulfully beautiful.
The entire album this song is on is amazing! She was the soundtrack of my high school years.
Silent All These Years
Crucify
Little Earthquakes
Thank you for doing this reaction. Her music is responsible for more tingles than ASMR.
I danced to this with my Dad at my wedding, it is such a powerful song.
Every single person that hears her for the first time gets chills. She's one of a kind amazing.
Tori Amos has quite a few awesome albums! Later in her career she spent most of her efforts in the classical music genre, but the first 5 or 6 albums at least are phenomenal and quietly revolutionary.
she is commanding... such a great performer... I listen to mostly metal (death metal etc.) but Tori in 94 in NYC (paramount theater) was the best concert I have ever seen... she is just that goddamn good
She sounds the same live, as she does on her album.❤
Tori is spectacular. Her last name is long A Amos.
I "inherited" listening to Tori Amos from my older sisters, but I definitely credit Tori with being one of the artists in the 90s and 2000s who made it plain to me that an artist can have an album that's made the way she wants it all to be...and also those songs work amazingly well remixed into club/rave styles. And for a while there it seemed like every single she released had at least two DJs remixing things. I still have most of it in my iTunes library. :D
...also...damned if I wasn't singing along with this at about 80 percent lyric-correctness even though I haven't heard it in years. :D
Tori’s music changed my life ❤My all time favorite.
Still makes a tear come to my eye no matter how many times I listen to this song. Magical.
Tori is a musical genius love her style and songs,
Songs:
Spark
Tear in your hand
Northern Lad
Silent all these years
Jackie’s Strength
Precious things
Girl
Thank you to Michael for requesting this artist and thank you Salvo for playing this video. I am a new fan and have added her to my playlist. This is such a fantastic way to be introduced to new music and seeing your reaction is the icing on the cake.
I try so hard to get Anyone to react to Tori!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!❤❤. Bought this cd when it was released in. Sophomore year of high school and everyone after. But Little Earthquakes can never be replaced. Soundtrack of my life! So much beauty and healing!! Lucky enough to see Tori live in early days. She’s been known to surround herself with 3 types is pianos and maybe a harpsichord and switch in the middle of one song. Please More Tori! Little Earthquakes, me and a gun, crucify, etc. ❤❤❤
Nice to see all of these Tori fans. I still have this on cassette.
This song always makes my a little teary thinking about my dad as well. Tori is a remarkable musician.
I first heard her just after this album came out. To say I’ve had a crush on her would be a massive understatement. I’ve seen her perform several times and she never disappoints. She is one of those once in a lifetime talents. Please react to more of her. She leverages all of her talents to the fullest. She is gifted beyond compare in every possible way musically. I’m so glad I grew up when I did to witness her along with so many other amazing artists.
More live Tori reactions! Singing live is where she’s in her element.
Tori will rock your world if you listen to more of her songs, not only does she have amazing talent and control but her lyrics are deeper than much of what you'll hear today from typical artists. Tori is unique.
I absolutely love Tori Amos, please do more of her songs. The power of orange knickers is a great one haven't seen any reactions to it yet. Maybe I just can't find any.
You, Sir, got a sub for NOT pausing the video!! I can't watch reaction videos where they stop and start over and over. I know you don't have to do that! Andy and Alex never stop a song. You've got this! I listen to a little Tori and Aimee Mann every day... along with other amazing women singer songwriters.
Everything she does is amazing. Some favorites are Silent All These Years, Little Earthquakes, and Crucify.
The wholeof the Little Earthquakes album is a killer and this is a standout track. One of the best debut albums I've ever heard and her phrasing, lyrical imagery and delivery are just world class. F*cking brilliant.
You are the first reactor I've seen do Tori Amos. Please do more of her catalog! She is sooooooo good❤❤❤😊
Love seeing another Tori fan made. :)
THANK YOU MICHAEL ❤ I LOVE THIS SONG!
Me and a Gun always gives me chills, which is about Tori being a rape survivor.
One of my favorite songs, so beautiful ❤
this album Little Earthquakes is a perfect album I love her heavy stuff, me and a gun is about the thoughts she has when being assaulted at gun point in real life. I saw her live in a small chapel she oozes sensuality
Tor Amos is simply wonderful. You really need to hear both "Muhammad My Friend" ( _Boys for Pele_ ) to understand her sardonic humor, and "Me and a Gun" ( _Little Earthquakes_ ) to see her intensity and pain.
This song ... my teenaged years. I am a piano player, and she is a prodigy. Thank you for reacting to the greatest female pianist of all time, in my opinion. "Little Earthquakes" the song from "Little Earthquakes," the album, is my favorite song of all time. Thank you for reacting to this one. Everything she does is immaculate.
Precious Things, In Session live 1998…don’t know how many times I have viewed that video. Tori has a band and the drummer is insane (right up there with Tori’s phenomenal performance). I think this might be her most intense time period. The Waitress and Iieee from this concert are also 😮😮😮
I never get tired of this video. It's pure magic.
Thank you for not stopping and deconstructing in the middle of the performance. Liked and subscribed!
Crucify & Cornflake Girl are must do's.
I got this album when it was first released, I am STILL listening to it, it never gets old, ever
If you can find Last Temptation of Tori recorded in Berlin Germany April 1994 give it a listen. And the intros between songs add a lot
When I want to show friends a masterclass in spellbinding the audience in a live performance, I have two favourites: Aurora, Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) at the Nobel Peace Price concert 2016 - and this one.
I have heard this album hundreds of times- I was in San Diego with several roommates and a communal Sony Surround system- we all loved it (Nina Hagen also- you should give her a listen). The orchestrations in this album are exceptional.
The entirety of Little Earthquakes is outstanding ❤
I would recommend watching the RAINN concert from 1997 and the In Session concert from 1998. Really great videography and sound as well as top tier performances from Tori and her band. In 1997 it was just her and Caton, a guitarist she worked with while in Y Kant Tori Read. He toured with her for many years, but to be honest when she got rid of him the sound was just as good with just Matt Chamberlain and Jon Evans, drums & bass respectively. Both talented and sought after musicians.
Beverley Craven : Promise me
Tori Amos and the Little Earthquakes album were quite popular, even two of the most popular Mandarin singers were covering her songs. Chinese diva Faye Wong covered Silent All These Years in both Cantonese and Mandarin, and Taiwanese singer Valen Hsu covered Winter in Mandarin, but she sang both English and Mandarin in her concerts.
As for Tori, I suggest you check out Blue Skies, her collaboration with BT. It's more uptempo and dance-y, the side she doesn't show often enough.
Raw emotion is what would describe her best, good and bad emotions, pure and unfiltered, it can be at times overwhelming, but one thing she will never be is boring and conventional.
The first: when you're gonna make up your mind, always makes me cry! Thinking about my dad,who luckily is still in my life, but one day he won't!😢
Yes...finally! I've been waiting for this one forever!❤
I adore her song "Icicle". Don't think I have ever heard such honesty in a song. Check out her performance on Jay Keno. Do listen to the lyrics. Once you've realised what she is singing about it will blow your mind.
