  • One of the best things about the AM4 platform was how many AMD CPU generations it supported and now with AM5 coming out the previous generations are coming down in price it's a great time to buy.
We recently picked up a new Ryzen 5000 series CPU for our benching system, but we will need to update our Gigabyte B450 motherboards bios to get it working. Luckily Gigabyte have provided a simple and easy way to do it and that's what we will be going through in this video.

Thank you so much for going through this. I've recently gotten a used computer and the bios was very old (51F or something). I've been apprehensive to update it because it acts a bit wonky sometimes and I didn't want to make it worse. Your walkthrough was spot on. Easy straight forward and now it's done. Thank you again.

Honestly, on Gigabyte motherboards I'd advise everyone to boot to Bios and update it via Q-Flash and a USB stick with the new bios files on it, if possible. In my experience Gigabytes "Update Centre" is a very fickle and unstable app, that on occasions crashes and doesn't update the various apps properly.
Also, Bios is a far more stable clutter-free environment, where there is almost zero chance of something happening in background to disrupt that update. That's unlike Windows with it's bunch of hidden background updates, auto-reboots and possible crashes.
Also, most of Gigabyte AM4 motherboards come with the feature of a "Dual Bios" as standard (a backup Bios), so if a Bios update fails, just turn off your PC for 10 seconds and reboot. It should then jump over to that other reserve Bios, which will still allow you to boot up into Windows and carry on as normal. Because of this feature, it's hard to actually completely "brick" the motherboard via a Bios update failure.

Why? Everytime i need to ddu i have that chance of get a blackscreen crash in the safe mode and rarely but sometimes resets my bios settings, well my specs are b450 aorus elite v2, ryzen 3700x, rx 6750xt, 4x8gb corsair vengeance lpx 3200mhz (2black2white, black and white build i dont care rgbs 😅) the psu is a corsair rm850 white and i use windows 10, things i have tried, fresh install windows, disabled SAM, some ram settings from auto 2133 to 3200mhz, only 2 sticks of ram, updated bios, checked all cables, changed psu, before i had a seasonic, well for now my only solution is to not go to safe mode, but for me thats not a solution, something is happening in safe mode to get the crash but i dont know, i googled and i cant find anyone with this problem, its a mistery, i just discovered the issue when i had to ddu in safe mode, some months after the building, because in normal session the pc works without any problem, if someone can help me...😒 sorry my english is a little bad 😅

This is a stressful nightmare. I have a Ryzen 5 2600X on a Gigabyte Aorus Elite Gaming Motherboard. The BIOS is currently the F41 2019 date. i just want to buy a Ryzen 7 5800X to upgrade it. I want to download the latest bios. Use @BIOS to update it. Then install a 5800X CPU. It's like walking through a minefield with a pencil map drawn where you simply follow the line to get to the other side or, on the other hand end up going all over the place and eventually finding the other side. Or you step on a mine while following the path. What a hassle. WHY don't Gigabyte still have the dual BIOS setup so that you can recover with ease ??? I almost want to go out and buy a B550 with the absolute latest BIOS in it, move my RAM over, Install the 5800X in it and replace my B450 with the new board. Sorry for that silly rant, but you get my meaning. 😑🤢😵😵‍💫

They usually fail because you are going to a Bios that requires another one first (Check the Bios list for the board for any Red warning markers) or because it is a bios for the wrong board. This happens when they have different revision boards (v1.0, v2.0 etc) and it's not always easy to see which one you have. Might be worth checking with something like CPUz.
