    Another thing I love about baritones, is that if you capo it at the 5th fret, you get a regular E-to-E tuning. But the shorter active string length gives you a beautiful thick tone, and very different string tension!

      Well that depends what tuning you have it in 😂

      If you're in b standard, wouldn't it be the fourth fret?

    • @steverolfeca
      @steverolfeca Před 9 měsíci

      @@nickspitzley8539 nope. If you are tuning a regular guitar and using the B string in order to get a pitch reference for the high E, fretting the B at the 4th feet would get you an Eb!

    God Bless You! Just figured out Baritones exist this past week; yeah i live under a rock like Patrick Starfish. I've been thinking of getting one, who doesn't need another guitar? The intro answered all my questions. I like the metal scene, but life isn't one genre of music. I never realized, listening to music, how much was down tuned. I like Blues predominantly, and Out of laziness, I would play blues in down tunes like : Drop D, Drop Db, Drop C. Etc. On a 24.75" scale length. After finally using my brain & google for once, I'm seeing that it's super common. Down-tuned country and blues is insanely cool. People say they don't like certain genres but probably are forgetting: there is music in that particular genre they like that they don't like too. Just because you don't like a certain type of way a restaurant did their meatballs, doesn't mean all spaghetti is garbage. Nice sounds btw brother; Sounds like a cowboy movie.

    Thanks for this video. I had been eying the Gretsch but instead went with a Fender Squire. The finish blew me away, purple sparkle ! Spending some time getting comfortable with my relatively new baritone (Squire Classic Vibe FSR Custom baritone 27" scale) which of course came tuned in the standard BEADF#B tuning and .014-.068 gauge round wound strings....but since I have changed to flat wounds (which I prefer and have on all my electrics as they're more comfortable and there's no squeak moving along the fretboard) and gauges .015-.060. I have also discovered some very cool alternate tunings for baritone guitar such as : AEADF#B. or AEADEA (DADGAD equivalent) or GDADEA. or GDGCEA or ADGCEA. Locking tuners, always helpful. 🙂

    baritone ukulele is normally tuned the same as the top four strings of a guitar or the same as a parlor guitar aka "chicago tuning". you can also use a capo on the 5th fret and play the same as the smaller ukuleles tuned to GCEA.

    Curious of the amp / emulation tones and settings you were using for this video? I've got the same Gretsch baritone and can't for the life of me get anything as nice sounding as you have here...

    Can you tune the baritone up one step? If so, what gauge strings would you use? What is the impact on intonation? Thanks!! Nice video..

      I have one of these, the tension feels REALLY high in standard b as it is. Standard A feels a lot more like regular guitar tension to me, so I've been hesitant to try anything above B. Anything above that I'd use a regular guitar for.

    This thing sounds like a mandolin compared to my Schecter Hellraiser C-VI. With a 30" scale, the bastard is tuned in E-standard (the E below B standard 😂) it sounds like a 6string bass.
