  • Chet Atkins played and featured each of these artists, plus Larry Carlton on the sixth Austin City Limits program of 1987. Sorry, but I missed recording Carlton's set. Thom Bresh's set has been posted elsewhere on CZcams in a good recording. Nevertheless, I included my recording of it here, plus the rest of the program, featuring Gimble, Thomson and Ostroushko.

Thanks for your comment, Edward. I'm glad to know that people are enjoying something they might not otherwise get to see had my recording not survived. Now, if we can just find Larry Carlton's set.

Back in those days you could count on this level of talent showing up on this show at any given time. This was one of the good ones. Thanks for sharing.
I have given up on the Austin City Limits show. There is nothing of value on it anymore unless they are doing reruns and you are lucky enough to catch an older show. Bluegrass Underground has tried to replicate it but it just doesn't get it.

I didn't catch the name of the rag tune after Chet and Thom played but I've always loved this rendition. Especially Butch Thompson's solos on piano. He just made it look so effortless. And that blasay look he has on his face is priceless. I once showed it to a lady friend and said "He can sure play piano".
