Glad to see these two get together (as they both admired each other greatly) and a video was made plus posted so this performance could be shared by others.
Both of them impress the hell out of me that’s for sure.You know, I don’t really listen to country much. But damned if they don’t have some amazing guitarists. Freaking legends. And the thing that impresses a lot of guitar players the most regardless of what type of music we play is at these country boys play clean! No distortion no crunch of any kind. Nothing to hide your sloppy technique. You’ve actually got to be a real bad ass on that guitar to pull that kind of stuff off. No special effects to hide behind. And Bresh is right, that is a really nice sounding guitar that boys got.
I’d rather listen to Thom Bresh than any solo player in the world. He has the best groove. It’s an irresistible force. With a fill player like the guy he has it’s transcendent. As much recognition as Thom has gotten I don’t think the world will fully appreciate him until he’s gone. It’s a shame. He is the most important player/interpreter in this field alive today.
I have been listening to Thom's thumb lay down grooves for years, and I sure do miss those days he hooked up with Buster. I have also listened to Johnny smoke through some licks too fast to keep up with, but this is the most melodic playing I have heard from him. Wish he would do more of it.
Johnny is an AMAZING player. I could not even begin to hope to play like him. But..... as great as he is and as fast as he is, I would like to see him add a little "flavour" to his style and be complete. Mostly super fast licks that most people cannot even appreciate sometimes falls on numb ears. I, respectfully, wouldnlike tonsee a little more melodic movement as a contrast to the speed to really open up both dynamics and speed in his playing. Just my opinion, nothing more. Big fan.
He's something for sure, always amazes me how they can't wait till the gig is over to smoke or drink..but I'm sure if the truth was told I'm guilty too.

I think it's because he plays straight from the love of people and the music in his heart.
He sure gets that thumb groove going just better than almost anybody ! 🤠 I think he gets as much pleasure from it as we do listening ...
